ParticipantAdam would’ve included a Neal Valentine…NEAL! Neal is Adam’s own creation…..his baby. 🙂

Thank god.
It goes to what I said a few pages back–A and E do love Neal. They wanted to audience to connect with the character because they (the writers) have never seen the disconnect. They know Bae is Neal and they love him.
Remember the official podcast for 221 (?) and the podcaster said that Bea and Neal seemed like a hero to her and they totally agreed?
He is.
Hero.

Yes, Neal is their Bae-by. He’s the male counterpart to Emma’s reluctant heroine. He never wanted to be involved with magic, but when called upon, he steps up and even uses magic to locate his love, Emma. Emma and Neal’s story is about how two people who love each other, yet who’ve experienced hurt, can come together again. Their story is so similar to so many of us, which is why their learning to forgive and reconcile offers so many of us hope. #HopeforSwanFire
The OnceABC twitter account can push Hook all they want, but Adam and Eddy ultimately are the ones who get final say when it comes to storytelling.

ParticipantThat’s great that the trend got up and that MRJ saw it! Glad he got to feel the love out there for him and his character. 😀
If you don’t like Neal then you don’t understand Baelfire at all or what he’s gone through. There is no way in hell he was going to retain his purity and innocence after all he has gone through and realized. It’s amazing he’s not in some hardcore therapy! Or hell for all we know he might be! But I just really cannot understand why people say he’s a jerk or he is selfish, etc, etc. If you can give me a good reason, other than ”He abandoned Emma!!111oeeennnnnn” I’ll hear you out and open a discussion. But I’m tired of the same overused excuse that has been refuted by Neal fans and especially by Adam and Eddy.
That whole long post gets ALL THE COOKIES, because PREACH!!
On the flipside, according to fans, we are supposed to blindly believe Hook is no longer Hook but Killian. He’s seen as justified for changing in a matter of MINUTES, becoming a pirate because his brother just died… And here Baelfire has been abandoned over and over again by people who claim to love him, and he’s done nothing but sacrifice himself to help these people… and had 300 years of being alone… I’m not a hook hater by any means, but just using this as an example… the same people who claim Neal does not equal Bae are the same ones who claim after 5 days Hook is no longer Hook but Killian…
The double standards are sometimes so blatant, it makes me want to weep.
I agree, it’s just not hard for me to see Neal as Bae. I feel like that’s why I love Neal so much. Because from the beginning of S1 I LOVED BAELFIRE, and for someone who has had a life such as he, he’s done pretty great. He hasn’t murdered anyone, he hasn’t committed attempted murder, and he continues to sacrifice himself for those around him WHEN HE GETS NOTHING in return. Absolutely nothing.
Poor guy is fate’s punching bag, for real. Someone with lesser strength of character would have been turned into a hideous person by what Bae went through, but Neal’s still got such a good, strong heart, despite it all.

KeymasterWe’ve been discussing a lot lately about Emma’s desire to be human–to reject her archetype.
This video made me tear up and think of those conversations.

*sobbing* Emma didn’t ask for any of this, to be made the savior. What she really wanted was Neal and Henry. No wonder she thinks that the price of her being the savior means not getting what she, plain old Emma, really wants: family, belonging, home, love, and a happy ending. At least she has Henry now, but even those implanted memories aren’t real. She’s going to be devastated when she discovers she gave Henry up.

ParticipantSomething to think about from GirlhitsCar if things don’t work out for Neal and Emma.

We have no way to know what story A&E want to tell here, no matter what they say about “sticking to their vision” one minute, and “pleasing the fans” the next. It’s television. The story sadly isn’t likely to be paramount compared to ratings and with the marketing hype the way it is, I can’t help but sigh because I”ve seen it happen in too many TV shows. This show felt different for some reason.
RG–YES YES YES. Those people who keep inventing reasons to hate him work very hard at it but the show so far doesn’t seem to really present him in that negative light in terms of other character’s reactions to him.

ParticipantI know this is probably off the topic being discussed, but MRJ really seems to have a good heart, and a lot of class. For him to take the time to recognize people the way he did tonight (twitter) says a lot about what he’s made of. I still like Hook a lot, but Michael has just made me a fan. What a good guy! Not intending to spam a topic or anything, just wanted to speak out, to say he impressed me tonight. I wish there were more people out there like that.
