KeymasterDaniel said in the podcast that he can’t shake the feeling someone will die, and I don’t think that person will be Charming.
Yeah I heard that. But I think Daniel is mistaken. Graham’s death was for a very specific reason: to show that you don’t mess with the Curse. That breaking the Curse will have consequences. But despite what Daniel said, Graham wasn’t the most integral member of the show. He was a friend but not *family.* The way I see it now, the entire current cast is family–even Hook. I don’t think A and E have it in them to kill off a family member. They’ll kill off the baddies and other characters we like, but not the family. I think Charming will come VERY close and maybe even Rumple by the end of this season. But I really don’t think our main cast will ever die. If anyone dies this season, besides GOAT, it’s PP.
(albeit wildly unpopular)
And this is ultimately why they’ll never ever ever ever ever ever do it.

ParticipantSo I’m alone here. lol.
I think from a writing and marketing stand point, they have to play out the CS stuff to the satisfaction (semi-satisfaction) of the CSers, meaning that Emma and Hook have to be in a relationship for some length of time.
Gotta laugh, coz it’s wasn’t that long ago that I was the one who was sure they’d go all the way with CS, and others weren’t convinced. 😆
I also think this might be a possibility because I just can’t see what Hook’s future in Storybrooke is. I can’t see him wanting to settle down in a house and take a traditional job. What will his future be?
I doubt any of them will just be settling down happily in SB once the NL storyline is done. There’ll be more adventuring in store, and if he’s proved himself a worthy ally while in NL and forged a bond with Emma in particular, he’ll be recruited for the next adventure as well.
On a happier note, I thought everyone could do with a reminder of this: SwanFire/Lion King parallel
I’m not typically that big on parallels, but that one is too cute. 😉
My main problem with Hook dying is the same when people say they want Neal to die–the idea that obstacle can just be removed. It’s like saying “if Hook/Neal died, then Emma and Neal/Hook could be together no problem!” I don’t that. I want obstacles. I want obstacles that they overcome together that way it is proof to both the “yays” and the “nays” that they always find their way back to each other, through everything. That’s the romantic story for me. If we could just delete the obstacles without having to really face them then they aren’t really obstacles. They’re just annoyances.
THIS!
I just fear that Hook developing a strong, yet unrequited love, could make Hook sacrifice himself.
*switches pair of shipping goggles* Noooo, Hook experiencing unrequited love would just be foreshadowing for him ending up with the mermaid who has also been on the wrong end of unrequited love. 😉

Haha, Phee! You and your crack ships. Well, it seems like you were right about RegalHood. Maybe Hookriel isn’t that far-fetched after all. 😀

Admittedly, it’s a very attractive ship, but I’m going to hold out hope for Eric until he point blank tells Ariel he swings the other way. If that happens, then I’m all aboard. 🙂

ParticipantSo I had to go into “Neal Defender” mode tonight on another board I visit and thought I would share my diatribe with you guys because I thought you might appreciate it. I don’t think I’ll change that person’s mind because they are SO bent on how horrible Neal is because he left Emma alone but dang it felt really good to rant at them, LOL 😆
This is what I said:
1. There are NO perfect characters on this show. They all have their flaws, have done bad things to other people, or have made a crapload of mistakes, and it’s what makes the show so fascinating for me. No one can be exempt from judgment on things they’ve done in the past (including Emma).
2. Neal did NOT know Emma was pregnant. If he had known that, there’s no way he would have left her.
3. Neal was not only scared of facing Emma again ten plus years after breaking her heart, he was also scared about facing his father again…someone he had been running from for a long time after being abandoned at the age of 13. It wasn’t just his guilt in leaving her, he wasn’t ready to face the father who abandoned him. I think he knows how badly he messed up. He admitted to Mulan that being apart from Emma was the biggest regret of his life and I loved her line to him, “Your belief in love wasn’t strong enough to overcome your fear of rejection.”
4. I don’t think Neal ever truly loved Tamara. I think he was still trying to forget Emma and thought he would never see her again. He probably thought dating someone else would help with that but we saw at the end of season two that he never stopped regretting how badly he hurt Emma and also never stopped loving her.
5. We don’t really know all of Neal’s story yet. We don’t know how long he was stuck in Neverland, how he got away from Pan, what happened to him between the time he got to our world and before he met Emma, or what all he was doing or where he was during those ten plus years apart from Emma. I want those missing pieces filled in because I think they’ll tell us a lot more about Neal/Baelfire. He’s been through a lot in his life too and I don’t think it’s fair to focus only on Emma’s pain…he’s got some serious pain and abandonment issues of his own to work through too.
6. After watching those scenes with Emma & Snow in last week’s episode with her talking about how miserable she was growing up alone, Neal may literally be the only person in her life who ever showed her kindness and love. She probably did the same thing for him and even though they didn’t have much of anything, they always had each other and that was enough for both of them. That’s not something you forget about easily, even through the pain and years apart.
7. If Neal had chosen to stay with Emma and not leave her, yes he would have finally had a family with her and their little boy, but the guilt of not telling her about the Curse, her parents, and her destiny would have eaten him alive and when that time to break the curse would have come up, I don’t think she would have believed him nor would she have been happy that he kept it a secret from her for all that time. Neal was pretty much in a lose-lose situation where Emma would end up hurt one way or the other. I think Emma was starting to realize that at the end of season two (ex. their talk on the beach).
8. If Regina, Hook, Rumple, and even Pan are capable of having happy endings (and Eddy and Adam have said repeatedly that evil isn’t born, it’s made, and not that I consider Hook evil per se), then Neal should be allowed to have a happy ending too. Neal’s intention wasn’t evil at all…he was heartbroken to find out she was mixed up in his fairy tale world too….he just wanted her to have her family back. I really don’t think Neal should be looked at as an evil, horrible guy. He’s a good guy who did a bad thing but he also knows it and deserves a chance to make things right again with Emma.Sorry for the ramble….I just love Emma & Neal’s story. The reason for the Curse (Neal/Bae) falling for the Savior who was destined to break the Curse (Emma)…that’s just a beautiful story of fate, destiny, and two lost people hopefully finding their way home.
Do you think I rambled enough??! LOL 😆 😉

ParticipantPREACH, Heather! Sometimes you’ve just gotta let it out.
Neal’s intention wasn’t evil at all
This is what really gets to me, that people who don’t like Neal so often seem to demonise him. There are plenty of characters on this show who have hurt people multiple times for selfish reasons, (Hook is one such character). Neal hurt Emma one time, and yes it hurt bad, but his motivation was selfless.
As a child, he left the only world he’d known in an attempt to save his father’s soul = selfless.
He gave himself up to the Shadow, going to another world he had no idea about, so neither of the Darling boys would get taken = selfless.
He finally got a taste of the happy ending he’d gone for centuries thinking was never gonna happen for him, and he gave it up so that she could find her family and save thousands of people in the process = selfless.
He has a pattern of self sacrifice that lands himself in a whole world of pain, and he knows it’s gonna hurt, but he does it anyway because he cares about the people involved, yet people think he’s worthy of hating. And meanwhile, the characters who have hurt people for selfish reasons get all sorts of sympathy and understanding and hope of redemption. I just…it does not compute in my head why people hate Neal, while still being able to see the good in other characters who have done things far worse than he has.

ParticipantPREACH PHEE!!!! 😉
Totally agree with you which is why I started off with my point about no one being perfect on this show. You can’t demonize one person and then forgive others for doing things that are SO much worse. I wish people could get that! 🙁

ParticipantI don’t feel the writers “have” to do anything but tell a good story and we all have different ideas of what that means. I’m sure Hook’s backstory is going to be everything needed to keep Hookers happy, by showing new layers and depth. I also think they’re going to continue to give us reasons to root for Neal to get back to Emma. Beyond that, I hesitate to make big predictions right now about what will happen when he does.
I still am rooting for Neal and Emma to work it out. The writers placed clues that Emma loves Neal in things like Emma keeping the yellow car, something so symbolically Emma that it was part of her brief OUAT:WL stunt double cameo. A sheriff’s car might have established the timeline better. Then they gave Emma Bae’s sword.
The writers are not preparing the audience to think as badly of Hook or Neal as some fans do so I am not sure what they have in mind. Maybe Hook or Neal have to go through heartbreak at Emma’s hands in order to come to grips with what happened in the past. Maybe it helps Neal or Hook understand how Rumple could have killed Milah, what type of despair drives a person to that. NL is all about facing the past, so as these characters get through this story arc I do expect a lot of changes in what I think will make them happy, but I do think the writers will want them to be on the road to that happiness.
Edit : Yes, 100% agree with Heather and Phee — Neal is not just a flat cardboard obstacles in the way of a ship (for that, see Tamara).
