I’ve been kinda MIA from OUAT for a while, because quite honestly I had to take a break from the fandom in general. It’s a nasty battlefield out there! I’ve also been quietly working on some SF stuff on the side, (but kinda hard between juggling with my full time and part time work, so it’s slow going.)
But I have been lurking though, invisibly, and popping in here and there to see what’s going on in the OUAT universe. I love what you guys posted because it keeps hope alive for all SFers out there. Most news hasn’t been good for our ship, 🙁 I have to say, but I try to remain optimistic because we don’t know the full story of what’s going on until we actually SEE IT in CONTEXT. Remember that word, my friends, it’s extremely important. Just because one reporter or spoiler says something doesn’t mean it’s the end of the world. I remember the first batch of spoilers we got, writers describe Hook being “scheming” and “scoundrel”. Doesn’t sound all that positive. And then another batch of spoilers kinda contradicting it and totting the 3×12 episode to be pro- CS. Of course people will have their favorites and bias, (we’re human after all) we’ll just have to wait and see what happens. I still don’t believe Neal will die or that they can wrap Neal’s story within 4 episodes with soooo much going on. I feel it will be a cop out otherwise. Unless it’s a behind the scenes issue and not a story issue. The fact that Neal mentioned Ruby Slippers in 3×01 tells me that he has an important part in 3B even if we don’t see it in the spoilers. Him, Rumple and Regina were the only characters that I can think of that had some OZ reference attached to them which is what 3B is all about!!!! Coincidence? I think not!
Something tells me that I’m gonna have to give Nealfire and great big bear hug, since he’s seems to be the one who’s most in pain, having separate from his son and love of his life not to mention losing his father all in the span of a day and aching for them ever since. Gah! It’s so heartbreaking just thinking about it. I’m sure we’ll get some heavy feels from this episode on Neal’s side; I’m looking forward to his interaction with Belle. But you know what? If it wasn’t this angsty, I don’t think I would be shipping it as hard as I do. Maybe it’s just me, maybe I’m a sucker for angst ridden drama, because it’s all the more rewarding if/when we do see Emma and Neal get back together after all the struggles, heartaches, and separations that they’ve endured over the past seasons. And there has been quite a bit of it to the point where it brings us to our knees with despair, but that’s when #Hope shines through. And of course our ship always has #Hope attached to it.
I don’t have much to add other then what you guys brilliantly posted already. But I do want to ask when you guys starting shipping Swanfire? I see people starting to ship it at various points in the show. For me it was immediately after they aired Tallahassee. It was like love at first sight LOL. Even when we weren’t sure that Neal=Baelfire at the time. There was still a charm about SwanTheif that I liked. I’ll admit I wasn’t an Emma fan until after I watched Tallahassee and SAW everything she had to endure, wandering around on her own and going to prison. But I also didn’t vilify Neal, like so many others and understand that he wasn’t the deadbeat that Emma made him out to be in season 1. He was a guy caught in an unfortunate circumstance that was out of his control. (Oh how I remember forum wars of people dismissing Neal and felt like the only oddball because I totally missed where all the hate was coming from.)
Then it became an obsession after “Manhattan” aired when it’s was confirmed that Neal is Bealfire. And I felt it threw their romance into massive proportions, because of the .00001% chance that Emma the savior and Nealfire (the boy from whom the curse was formed) would bump into each other and fall in love on their own. That’s a magical fairy-tale story right there.

I think I really started hard core shipping it after the Return. I just *knew* Baelfire was Henry’s father. And for me, Neal has always been Bae. I see ZERO disconnect between the two. He was a good boy and a great man now. And when we saw him in Broken, I just yelled “BAE!!!!” and knew. I actually found a post of mine from way back when S2 just started when I posted in some random thread, “I’m such a SwanFire girl” and I think we had just met “mystery man”
