Participant@kfchimera: Lovely symbolism! Nothing is coincidence. 🙂

ParticipantThanks! I would not say “nothing is coincidence” but I do believe the writers intend things as a matter of destiny to set up Neal and Emma to meet, then give them the choice to get back together. Obviously, that’s the choice at this point in the story I am hoping the writers intend to make for the characters, but we are judging only on part of the story!

KeymasterYeah, Mr. Eko!!!!!!!
I know the idea gets tossed around that because PP set up Emma and Neal that their love was just part of a game and not real–or at best only fleeting–but I disagree. PP could have used anybody for Emma. But it had to be Neal. Only Neal and Emma could produce the boy with the heart of the truest believer. If all PP wanted was a boy who had both light and dark he could have found someone else, I’m sure. Or manipulated other circumstances/people. But it had to be Emma and Neal.

ParticipantKFC, yet another post of yours I wish to marry!
That’s the kinda symbolism that makes me believe they’re endgame, because they could have written their story any old way they wanted, but they included things like Phoenix symbolism, the mythical fire bird that rises from the ashes. They put them in Oregon, but associated them with a crime in Phoenix. How many towns are there in the US they could have used? But they picked that one. And they’re SwanFire, bird + fire, it just all fits so perfectly it makes me wanna weep. *sigh*

That got me thinking about why they chose Portland of all places for them to meet. Port land, they’ve both been through port(als) between lands, and it’s because of that happening that they were in the right place at the right time to meet. Clever writers are clever.

ParticipantEko was awesome.  I think in general, he is great example of how writers change stories too. (From Eko’s Lostpedia page)Â
Damon Lindelof stated that Eko’s story arc was originally supposed to last 4 seasons however due to Adewale’s dislike of living in Hawaii he was killed off after a little over one season.
I wish we had CSF to muse on the theme of shifts in vision and how the writers can say something like “always hope” to every ship.  I do not like how the culture of shipping tends to polarize thought against a storyline, characters and other fans, when as fans we cannot have complete control over how it goes, nor should we as we respond to different things at the pesky details level. I want Emma and Neal to be happy, along with other characters.  I have thoughts on how Regina, Hook and the others would reach happiness too, in my vision of SF playing out. Yet the writers might go for something darker. We never know. So I want realistic hope, but at the same time, I am in tune enough with the troll mindset to find humor in contemplating things like LIttle Birdies (Robin Hood and Emma Swan). THis might drive the “faithful” shippers wild but I believe Adam and Eddy would totally snicker about things like this. I know they do not write alone and the execs might say things but they answer the questions and their idea of what is a cool story is likely not as romantic as ours! So I only know I can have fun looking at the clouds, seeing intention and hoping that the Droll Trolls still think that SF is poetry.

KeymasterShipping culture is both a blessing and a curse. On the one hand, love the passion–artwork, videos, stories, ect. On the other hand I think CSF is going to kill this fandom because when Emma finally makes that final choice, it’s going to devastate one side. I really hope Adam flees Twitter before it happens. I don’t wanna see the responses. They have teased both sides so much that both ships are positive that they are end game.

If SF doesn’t happen (knock on wood) then I would be disappointed but not devastated. It IS just a fictional story after all. Yet, Neal said to RH, “this is his second chance” and S3 seems to be about second chances. MRJ has made it clear Emma is the love of Neal’s life. It would leave him out in the cold if he didn’t make amends with Emma. Three other ships, FireQueen, WarriorFire, and HookedQueen got shut down (for now) in 3×3 since it’s clear that Regina’s soulmate is Robin Hood and Mulan loves Aurora. Regina gets a second chance with RH, Roland and shares custody over Henry with Neal and Emma. Whereas for Hook, it seems like he could fall for lots of different women, since he’s such a ladies’ man. Hook gets a second chance to be a part of something greater than his own sense of revenge by helping Neal get his family back. Maybe a fairy or a certain mermaid would help Hook to sooth his disappointment over Emma.

That’s because you’re a sane and logical human being. Out there in the wilds–Tumblr and Twitter–people area a little less rational.

*claps* love it.

ParticipantI was just re-watching “Quite a Common Fairy” with captions, and the scene in which Regina calls Hook Emma’s boyfriend really jumped out at me this time:
Regina: And you think it’s the best plan because your boyfriend came up with it?
Emma: My boyfriend? Hook? What’s your problem?
Snow: She just lost Neal.
Regina: Sorry…I’m just worried about Henry. At first I thought Snow was the one who said, “What’s your problem?” to Regina. The second time watching it though, I realized Emma was the one who said it! Emma is the one who could not believe Regina would insinuate Emma and Hook were romantically involved. That means Emma shot down that idea. Then Snow emphasized that Emma had just lost Neal. This is a clear indicator that Emma isn’t over Neal the same way Regina hasn’t quite gotten over Daniel (despite the fact it’s been several decades). Clearly, Emma isn’t ready to move on, nor will she likely when she discovers Neal is alive.
