ParticipantHm guess I have to see the episode, but originally it seemed like Ana left WIll for HER own good, not his, while with Emma and Neal it seemed Neal was concerned about Emma.
I hope they don’t do a 180 here and say “oh no, Neal was being selfish and as for giving her everything he had, that was just…forget about that, won’t even mention that part of it.”
The thing is, Ana didn’t act like someone concerned with trying to make things right but just erase the past and start again for a very long time. So I guess I don’t like comparing her to Neal simply because I feel he is much higher quality in a moral sense. Yet her redemption seemed sincere, and love is love. I’ll watch the episode, because the point of forgiveness is simply that when you love someone, you can move on from things if there’s a sincere desire to treat each other right despite previous mistakes (or even intentional wrong choices, in what I thought was Ana’s case).
“If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense. Nothing would be what it is, because everything would be what it isn't. And contrary wise, what is, it wouldn't be. And what it wouldn't be, it would. You see?” -- Lewis Carroll, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland & Through the Looking-Glass

Hmm.
See, I’m with KFC. I see a lot of similarities in the couples *now* but not originally. I thought Ana left for selfish reasons as well. But tonight proved that maybe two people can find their way back through heartache and love each other again.
I do see the parallels with the rest of your points though. But mostly it’s theme of forgiveness and still loving that person (did you see Will’s face when Ana said, “I know you’ll never love me again”–he never stopped. The feelings were just boxed up for a bit)

I agree that there was a lot personal gain in leaving Will for Ana- but she wanted to go back to Will so there had to be some truth in the line “I’m tring to do what’s best for both of us” (Paraphrasing) Which is why I thought it paralleled Swanfire

ParticipantOT: Just have to say OUATiW’s death scene was sheer epicness. I haven’t cried that hard in a while, as in actual tears, streaming down my face. It ranks on my top 5 death scenes.
And I do see the similarities with Will/Ana’s story compared to Swanfire’s even though Will/Ana’s break up was from selfish means. I feel there’s a lot of internal struggles between the couples just like Swanfire’s, but both couples still love each other even through the pain and hurt they caused each other.
Ana/ Neal left their partner abruptly (though Ana’s was more of selfish means)
Will/ Emma tried to find their partner even after they left them so suddenly, Emma going to Tallahassee and Will going back to the castle to confront Ana.
Both had external forces working against them to stay separated. Will/Ana with Cora and Emma/Neal with August and Tamara
Will/Emma confesses their love at the last moment. When Will got his heart back he immediately kissed Ana. Emma said “I love you” when holding onto Neal from getting sucked into the portal. Then both Ana/Neal “perished” after proclaiming their love. Though Neal survived and we’ll see about Ana in the next episode.
I think I love shipping these couples so much is because they’re more realistic. They both love each other deeply yet they’ve both argued and fought and caused pain to each other, which is normal for any couple. The thing that makes it compelling for me to watch is if they can seek forgiveness and heal past hurts and rectify wrongs. It makes for a stronger relationship if they show they can survive that.
LOL sometimes, I wish I don’t ship such angsty pairings, lord knows it hurts so much to watch, but gawd I can’t help it if I do! 🙂 It makes it more satisfying to see them get back together, assuming both couples do get back together. That’s why I applaud couples that survive 25, or even 50 years of marriage. You can be sure that it’s not always smooth sailing during that long period, but to still love each other after that, takes guts, courage, and a lot of fortitude.

ParticipantTonight’ WL proved one thing
Forgiveness and love are possible. Never stop hoping.
Everyone deserves a second chance.
I just watched “The Heart of the Matter” on OUAT in WL. If I didn’t start out shipping ScarlettQueen, tonight’s episode made me a believer. Love, forgiveness, second chances are what OUAT and OUAT in WL are all about. No body is going to take that away from the core message of HOPE.

I agree with this. I like the more realistic couples–love isn’t easy. And it shouldn’t be. It shouldn’t feel like everything is going smoothly and right because falling in love and then staying in love is a battle (for me at least) because the world is constantly giving us reasons to stop believing. It’s loving that person through the crap that’s more important than everything being sunshine and daisies.

ParticipantThe feelings were just boxed up for a bit)
Literally. 😆
Pretty much since the beginning I’ve been anti-Ana and Will because they’d portrayed her as having just dumped him for her own personal gain, despite the dream they’d had together. Seeing what actually happened does redeem her in my eyes a helluva lot, (though I do still give her the sideye for having ditched him in the first place because I’m not 100% convinced she did it for them both, I think there was a fair bit of, “Ooooo, the sparklies do look lovely on me,” involved), and I’m not mad that Will forgave her, even though I’ve previously been thinking that she didn’t deserve his love or forgiveness at all. So yeah, I can see some similarities with SF now that we have all the facts, but I hadn’t seen similarities there before this most recent WL ep.
