Every time I watch it I am struck by a few things that we’ve discussed at length but bear repeating.
1) Emma’s dream life is a safe home with her son. She’s not Ms. Adventrue.
2) “Perhaps you love someone in the life you’ve lost.” Cue MANY flashes of Neal, including both time she told him she loved him
3) I really do like Hook the Pirate. He’s snarky and sarcastic and he has great one liners and is *fun*. I so prefer him to be Emma’s BFF.

However, in the safety of our Swanfire haven, I’ll expound a bit on my theory/wish. Short story, there are mirrors everywhere in this season so far, and some notable ones are when they are there in the background (in Regina’s office and in Granny’s). My own headcanon right now (most likely debunked tonight but just in case it’s not) is that Zelena imprisoned Neal in a mirror just before he was able to save Rumple and the next curse was cast. He is able to travel between them, and watch over Emma and the rest of her family, but unable to comunicate. He can occasionally escape, just as Ozma could in return to Oz, but not for long and he can’t reveal his true identity. How heartbreaking would it be to see him watching Emma ask for him, but not able to tell her he’s ok? It also would be a parallel to Charming being trapped in the mirror in Season 1. I know I’ll most likely be very wrong indeed, because I almost always am, but right now, I’m going to enjoy my little theory.
Edit: And I just thought to myself, what if this is the price of some sort of magic he tried to use to get to them?

^ Interesting theory. I don’t recall Charming ever being trapped in a mirror, but I recall the genie was. He wished to forever look upon the face of the Evil Queen but was doomed to forever be a magic mirror. Is that what you mean by your theory? That Neal has replaced the genie (i.e. Syndey) as the man in the mirror?

However, I do like it. Now that you went through and found all those, there are a TON of mirrors in the first 2 episodes.

Maybe in 315 he find a book of spells or something that can get him back to Emma/Henry but the price for trying it is that he is sucked into a mirror and can only see them that way
