I kind of think Snow and Charming would get why Neal left Emma, but it is an open question if that’s ever fully been explained to anyone on screen that the ONLY reason he left the way he did was because he HAD to due to the curse? I would enjoy a story where Snow tells Emma how she had to break Charming’s heart, so they can draw some parallels (the all-mighty-stock in trade of shippers everywhere),
In addition to that situation where Snow left Charming, and where Snowing put Emma in the wardrobe, there’s also the fact that Snowing were prepared to be separated for the sake of the Curse.

They didn’t like it, but they knew they’d have to be separated for nigh on 3 decades, for the good of all.

Again, they didn’t like it, but they knew they had to do it for the good of all.
It really doesn’t surprise me that Charming, and also most likely Snow, would like Neal, because they’ve been in his exact position, and can empathise with him like WHOA.
but more importantly get into what “terrible things” could have happened if Neal stayed.
I would love an AU ep that shows what would have happened. Not only would it be fascinating, but like you say, if they want to convince a particular part of the audience that Emma would freely choose to go back to Neal, they need to illustrate better what did happen and what could have happened.

Phee, that is what I hope. These little moments give me hope they are still telling this story, but with all the obvious media attention on the Thing, and what that might mean, it would be nice to have some more fresh reveals of reasons to hope. I wish that we’d had a title reveal of Phoenix, but it is quite possible that some things they won’t go back to until 3.16, that is the anniversary of Manhattan.

Very interesting! Even though J-Mo said we’d never imagine how this truth reveal happens, I’m going to guess it comes in the form of Emma getting stranded in the jungle with just her two lover boys for company.

Really? That’s so unfortunate. One of the major downsides about living in the Internet age is that fans can cyber-bully actors over trivialities they dislike. I wish that all the fans of this show, no matter their own personal preferences, had the maturity level to respect the actors, writers, and producers.
On a positive note, I really love how both MRJ and Josh Dallas admire their respective characters for the same reason. 🙂
As Josh quoted David, they are both, the good and the bad. And as Phee wrote a page back, both David and Neal made the same impossibly difficult decision to let Emma go to fulfill her destiny as the savior. If Charming can’t forgive Neal for what he did to Emma, then that means Charming can’t forgive himself for letting his daughter go. It’s remarkable that some fans of the show give Neal such a hard time, and yet give David and Snow a free pass! Now, just as Charming wants to make amends to his daughter, so does Neal!
