I agree that it’s what happened, it’s rather obvious. What happened in WHtF is just what happened right after 7:15, but in 7:15 it is shot such that it appears as if James is leaving.

I think the way it was shot and set up is meant to imply that the book August remade and gave to Emma includes new information. We saw it differently the first time because the original book did not include what happened after.

Leodious, I have been thinking the same thing. I would have to go back and watch the two episodes but didn’t Red say something different in the second episode than she did in the first? I remember thinking exactly the same thing you did – that after seeing August sewing the book we were supposed to think that he had either added more information or changed something around because the two scenes were either different or had additional detail.

But then I watched all the episodes again with my son to get him caught up and I couldn’t tell if the additional information was actually just more at the end of the scene that we just didn’t see the first time around. Great, now I’ll have to go back and watch them again because this will drive me crazy. But even if it isn’t new or different information, I completely agree that it sure made it seem like it was since August had just been messing around with the book.

I also don’t think that the scenes were different. When they showed the extended scene everything was exactly the same until the moment that they showed us what happened next.
