I just saw this on the news. According to Social Security Administration:

    1) Sophia
    2) Isabella
    3) Emma

😀 I like to think that’s because of Once Upon a Time, a lot of expecting mom’s watching the pilot and getting hooked. Just checked and Abigail is also on the list as well for girls names.

Daniel is #10 for boys, Ava is #6 for girls.

I have never actually met anyone named Emma in real life. Though i am not surprised that it is high on the list of baby names at the moment.

Haha, actually Emma is currently falling popularity. It’s been in the top 10 since 2002, and was number 1 in 2008. ( I believe that was when Emily was finally dethroned.) But it has since been dropping.

It’s interesting because you’ll often find TV shows will pick a name for their adult character that only recently gained popularity for babies and so it’s often anachronistic. (Dr. Addison Montgomery, anyone? 40 years ago people Addison wasn’t even in the top 1000 for girls. It was moderately popular for boys thought. 😉 ) I’ve met a baby Emma or two. In the year our Emma would have been born, the name ranked 399. Oh well, she was born in fairy tale land 😉 She’s fortunate she wasn’t named Blue Bird or something.

I always always associate Emma with the same-named Jane Austen book and with the “Tante-Emma-Laden”. Latter is a German name for general store, transalted: Aunt Emma Shop. It has all sorts of things, sometimes old stuff that nobody really wants anymore (sort of like antiquities, but not that valuable).
I’ve also never met anyone named Emma or at least can’t remember right now. There are loads of books and films with a heroine named Emma, though. Never understood why …

Actually, I have an Auntie Emma 😆 but she’s not blond.

Aunt Em. That is awesome. Do you quote the Wizard of Oz at her? I would.
