Emma owes Mr. Gold a favor

I didn’t see a topic here on the forum but if there is one, please forgive me.

Does anyone have any theories as to what Mr. Gold will ask of Emma or when? This season? Last season? Next episode? When? Could it be juicy enough for a season finale? I really have no clue so would love some ideas to ponder.

Something that just popped into my head based on the preview for the next ep. It seems August has the dagger. Maybe Mr Gold will ask Emma to steal it back for him? Though would he go that far, because if she sees it and sees the name on it, she’ll know who he is, and I’m not so sure he’d want that. But if he wants her to start believing in all the fairytale stuff badly enough, maybe he’d be willing to give up his name? Hmmm, not sure I like my theory now that I’ve thought it through, but I’ll still throw it out there, just in case.

You know, since Henry hasn’t figured out who Gold is yet and in the preview it looks like Gold thinks that August is there to kill him I wonder if they will have Gold do something totally unexpected to try to get Emma to start believing. I wonder if they will have her favor be to believe to that he is Rumplestiltskin – since the dagger is in the episode and his name is carved into the knife and all. We don’t know exactly what August added to the book so it’s possible that he added Rumple’s story to the book but Henry just hasn’t read it yet. Maybe he will ask Emma and Henry to read his story. It would be typical for us to think that Gold would ask Emma for something major (for more than half a sandwich anyway 😆 ) so maybe this would be a twist they could throw our way. Depending on exactly what happened to Bae and when he left Rumple he may not know exactly what Rumple is trying to do, so if August is Bae he might not realize that Gold is trying to help Emma. So Gold may need Emma’s help in explaining to August that he has been helping her. If the last thing Bae saw was Rumple killing the guards he may think that Rumple spent his life on killing sprees instead of making deals with people – so he may be back thinking he’s going to kill Gold to protect people from a mass murderer or something.

His favor may have something to do with the dagger, but Emma still doesn’t know who Rumple/Gold really is, so how would she know that the dagger is actually his? Even if he’s trying to get her to believe in the curse and FTL, I doubt he’d just outright tell her his real name, because it would lead him to having to explain his backstory. He’s been trying to get Emma to form an alliance with him since she’s been elected sheriff, and now that Rumple/Gold finally has it I doubt he’d put it in jeopardy by giving Emma an excuse to write him off as crazy.

Maybe Rumple/Gold is leaving breadcrumbs for her to follow up on his real identity? Or maybe he’ll ask her to take the dagger back as a way of trying to protect his identity? We still don’t know if he’s in Henry’s book, or what it even says about him.

If the whole ordeal with the dagger will be a way for Emma to find out about Gold’s real identity by herself, then I think the million dollar question of the day is:

Would Emma still want an alliance with him?

Good point. Unless he said, “August has a dagger with my name on it and I want it back,” she wouldn’t automatically jump to the conclusion that it was his name on the dagger.

A lil while ago I had a theory that involved Emma having to guess his name to break the curse, but I’d kind of abandoned it. But that phrase you used, Dorothy, about him leaving breadcrumbs for her, and also what rumplegoldfan said, got me thinking about it again. What if that is what has to happen? And what if Mr Gold decides that now is the time for the curse to break wide open? Maybe that would be his favour? “Guess my name.” Hmmmm.

And yes, that’s a good question, would she still want to be in league with him if she knows who he is and finds out about all his shenangians and just how much trouble he’s caused in his time? Though all of his misdeeds may not be in the book, I’ve suspected he’s not in there at all because surely Henry would have figured out who he is if he was in there. So maybe she would need to see the dagger with his name on it? Then she’d realise, “Wait up, Rumple’s not in the book, but his story is a famous one, so you’d think it’d be included. What gives?!“

Maybe those were the pages August added: Rumple’s story. I just re watched “Desperate Souls” and Gold reminds Emma that she still owes him that favor and now that she’s sheriff she just might be able to pay him back. My guess he’s going to ask something illegal or unethical.

I just thought of something! Maybe Rumple/Gold is in the book, but just mentioned too briefly for Henry to figure out who he is? In the Pilot episode while Henry is reading his book (I think it’s when he’s riding with Emma in her car), he flips to a page with a picture of a torch on it, and it goes to the scene with Snow and Charming going to Rumple for help. Maybe that’s the only time he’s mentioned in the book-as the one who made the prophecy about Emma? It could explain why Henry can’t make the connection between Gold and Rumple!

Rumple has played such a big part in so many of the characters’ lives that it doesn’t seem possible to tell their stories without bringing him in. Perhaps Henry hasn’t figured out who Gold is because Gold and Rumple are so different physically and emotionally. Gold seems more Scrooge-like than impish.

If the promo for “The Return” can be trusted, perhaps Gold will use his favor to ask Emma’s help against August (or whoever it is that Gold is referring to when he says, “I think he’s here to try to kill me.”)
