Maybe Rumple/Gold is in the book, but just mentioned too briefly for Henry to figure out who he is? In the Pilot episode while Henry is reading his book (I think it’s when he’s riding with Emma in her car), he flips to a page with a picture of a torch on it, and it goes to the scene with Snow and Charming going to Rumple for help. Maybe that’s the only time he’s mentioned in the book-as the one who made the prophecy about Emma? It could explain why Henry can’t make the connection between Gold and Rumple!
That would make sense IMO. If the book has that pic, then that scene at least must be in the book.

Rumple has played such a big part in so many of the characters’ lives that it doesn’t seem possible to tell their stories without bringing him in. Perhaps Henry hasn’t figured out who Gold is because Gold and Rumple are so different physically and emotionally. Gold seems more Scrooge-like than impish.
I think if the extent of Rumple’s deeds was spelled out properly in the book, Henry would certainly see a similarity, because Rumple and Mr Gold have one major trait in common: power. Mr Gold is the most powerful man in town, so if there’s a character who pops up in every story in the book, the one everyone goes to for help, the one who can fix everything, control any situation, it’s kind of a no brainer who he is in Storybrooke IMO. Henry’s an observant kid, so I’d be surprised if that stuff got by him if he’s had the opportunity to read about it.

Henry’s probably just as creeped out by Rumple/Gold as everyone else is, and he would probably have to hang around him more often and say more than just a few words to get a better sense of Rumple/Gold’s character.

True, but we know this because we’ve seen him in both worlds. Henry has only seen him in this world. How would he be able to know the difference?

Also true, but let’s not forget his other trademark: He makes deals. I think that would be the one trait to give Rumple/Gold away to Henry, because it’s so prominent.
As I said before, he may only be mentioned as the one who made the prophecy about Emma, but Henry’s book may be missing details on how her parents were told about the prophecy (SW and PC making a deal with Rumple), just as it was missing that one detail about how Hansel and Gretel lost their dad (he was snatched away by the Evil Queen).
April 7, 2012 at 5:44 am #141187fairytaleprincessParticipantI think whatever the favor is iris going to be a huge one! Something Emma will most likely not want to do, maybe involving sacrificing something/someone dear to her. Most likely illegal and unnerving.
April 7, 2012 at 10:30 am #141196SlurpeezParticipantI have a few theories. Rumple’s probably still making up his mind about what favor he wants Emma to do for him.
First, the favor that Emma owes Mr. Gold may be for her to retrieve Belle back for him. Although Mr. Gold may not yet know about Belle being alive in SB, by the time he learns about Belle, Mr. Gold may call upon Emma to get her back. We already know that we'll see Belle again in the season finale.
The next theory I have is a tad spoiler-ish. Based on the episode summaries for 20 and 21, Emma is going to have to decide weather or not to stay in SB. Perhaps Mr. Gold's favor will be for Emma to remain in SB until the curse is finally broken.
Finally, I like the idea that Emma might be called on to discover August’s true identity and report back to Mr. Gold. Episode 19's summary description has Mr. Gold trying to uncover who August really is. Maybe he'll get Emma to help him since she has become pals with August.

April 7, 2012 at 4:43 pm #141235lissyParticipantperhaps Gold will use his favor to ask Emma’s help against August (or whoever it is that Gold is referring to when he says, “I think he’s here to try to kill me.”)
That’s a good idea. Emma did say she is starting to know longer trust August, so she would love an exuse to investigate him.
@slurpeez108 I could also see the favor being about Belle because we have waited so long for him to use the “favor card” so it needs to be for an epic reason. It won't be to stay in SB becuase I have read a spoiler saying that August tells Emma there is a way to get custody of Henry by staying.
April 23, 2012 at 9:54 pm #143462snowfanParticipantNow that we have seen “The Return” and we now know Rumple’s motivation for creating the curse in the first place and his sole mission since he has been in this world, we have a better idea of what he will ask Emma to do as her favor to him.
He has spent all of his time in FTL figuring out how to get to this world. Once he got here, he has spent all of his time trying to find Bae. It has been stated several times “Emma has a talent for finding people”.
I think Mr. Gold will enlist Emma to find Bae in some way shape or form. It will no doubt be in some round about way, just as he has done everything else. But I believe that is also why he says now that she is sheriff she just may be able to pay him back. She would have many more means at her disposal to track someone down either magically once she believes or through being in law enforcement.
April 25, 2012 at 4:07 am #143914darcyfarrowParticipantThat would be brilliant, Snowfan. I’d love to see Ruby involved in the search too.
April 25, 2012 at 4:42 am #143925fairytaleprincessParticipantI wonder if Bae is also in the mental ward. If Rumple did ask Emma to find Bae and she finally realized people were being held down below and freed them all imagine Rumple’s anger and joy. Not only his son but the woman he fell in love with. True loves kiss may turn him back into the caring father Balefire remembered and the joker Belle knew. “It helps me forget.”. “Forget what?”. (pause…) “I guess it’s working.”

😯 😯
Remember back in “Price of Gold” when Emma asked “What do you want?” and Gold replied “Oh I don’t know just yet?” Maybe he held off asking about his son right away because he doesn’t have all the information about Bae yet to properly put his favor into writing!

Me too!!
April 26, 2012 at 11:39 pm #144215darcyfarrowParticipantThe more I think about your theory, Snowfan, the righter it feels. After Gold ‘s confession to August, I’m convinced that Gold has to mend his relationship with Bae before he can be a worthy husband for Belle. Besides the fact that he’s made the vow to love no one else until he’s found Bae, his heart is too damaged and he’s too burdened with guilt. If he found Belle first, he wouldn’t be the open-hearted, attentive, giving man that Belle deserves.
