I didnt know where else to post this, so figure Emma’s forum is the best place lol.
Isnt Emma a bail bond person, not a bounty hunter? It turns out they are 2 very different jobs although they can be merged together at certain times, under certain circumstances.
Im from New Zealand, so had no clue what a bail bond person was & had to google it lol & this what I found on bail bond persons :A bail bondsman’s responsibilities include answering phones and answering questions from family members and friends of the defendant. On most occasions, bail agents will meet with the families involved, or friends, and complete the bail bond process so that bail can be posted immediately. When bail bondsmen aren’t answering telephones, their keeping up with clients appearances in court as well as the progress of their cases. Often, a bondsman will deal with attorneys and the court system regarding these issues and a lot of the time, they are able to stop problems or errors before they occur, usually due to a lack of communication.
People, who have experience with a bondsman, probably see a much different view than the rest. Bondsmen are trusted advisers in a sense that can help people who are in trouble and provide them with a legitimate and financially feasible way of getting out of jail. Basically, a bail agent runs a sales environment and needs to uphold service to their customers in order to properly run a good business. They for a nonrefundable fee of 10 to 20 percent of the amount of the bail, post bail. A bail agent becomes liable to the court for the full amount of bail if the defendant fails to appear for the court date. Before agreeing to assume the risk of posting bail, the bail agent requires collateral from the defendant, such as jewelry, Securities, or written guaranties by creditworthy friends or relatives of the defendant. This collateral acts as security to ensure repayment for any losses the bail agent might incur.
Over time and with perpetual media, people have gotten the wrong idea about a bail agent’s persona. Sometimes people confuse the role of a bail agent verses the role of a fugitive recovering agent (aka “bounty hunter”). People see these roles as the same and don’t differentiate their real purpose. This is due mostly, to the fact that a lot of people have never been in a situation where they have had to use a bail bondsman.
The term “bail agent” means, “any person who can furnish bail for compensation in a court of the state, and one who is appointed by an insurer by ‘power of attorney’ to execute or countersign a bail bond.” Sometimes bondsmen are thought of as “Insurance Producers” because of their ability to bind policies of insurance for risk. So, if you were to assume that a bail bondsman was an insurance salesman, you would be on the right track.
The term “bounty hunter,” on the other hand, refers to a person who is employed by a bail company to find and hold a defendant in custody because they have failed to appear at their scheduled court date or has failed to carry out other responsibilities outlined in the bond contract.
Bail agents have the right to find their clients who have failed to hold up their part of the deal, so that they can get them to court. However, many bondsmen prefer to stick to what they know best and only conduct bail bond business and hire others to do the defendant recovery work (we know this isnt the case with Emma tho). Hired recovery agents must meet specific standards and should provide a sense of professionalism. They must also perform their tasks in an efficient manner so that the person is returned to jail promptly in a business-like and legal manner.
In simple terms, bail agents are used to help get people out of jail and follow them to make sure they get to court as scheduled. Bounty hunters provide a way to get defendants back to court when they don’t show up, in which case, they will be placed back in jail.
I think it interesting how her job description is to ‘protect’ & help people, despite how she feels & whats happened to her.
Also Emma being a bail bonds person is likely partly due to her upbringing- she either had someone do this for her, or wished she did have someone do this for her.
I also think it has to do with Henry’s father, was he maybe in a position of power over her somehow & was part of the reason she went to jail – something big must have gone down if she didnt want him even knowing Henry was alive (which leads me to believe she feels he’d hurt, use or harm Henry/her in some way if he did know).
We know she also became a bail bonds person, as she’s been searching for her mother & father since she was a kid, so that fits as well.[adrotate group="5"]April 8, 2012 at 8:50 pm #141415sam993ParticipantEmma is a very interesting character. I think the writers are doing an amazing job especially with presenting her. Some people may say “oh, she just like her mom and dad,” but really, she’s just a mixture between her parents and Regina.
You kinda see her good and evil side battling out in certain episodes. It’s like she has a White Swan and Black Swan personality. She’s trying to lean towards her good side, trying to do the right thing and be a good person, but she gives into temptation (placing a bug in Regina’s office, asking Mr. Gold for help, tricking Jefferson(Ya, that was the only way to save Mary Margaret, but it’s cruel to play with people’s emotions when it comes to family)). I can imagine that being a problem for Emma. If she can’t make the pure, straight choices, then she may fall off the path to saving Storybrooke. She may become the Black Swan or the White Swan. It all depends on her choices.
April 10, 2012 at 11:48 pm #141773charmingParticipant1. Emma is the key to breaking the curse; I would say has to do with Rumple collecting and bottling both hairs from Charming and Snow, which happened before the curse was enacted.
2. Yes, Emma will need to sacrifice to break this curse. Remember it may not be how we think it will be. It does not necessarily mean her life. This whole story is based on fairy tales, in other words literature, so sacrifice may just be a literary devise being used here. Doe everyone not remember anything they have learned in any english class.
3. She restarted time. Confirmed by Jefferson in Hat trick and the end of the pilot episode.
4, Dunno
5. Not sure
6. The enemy of my enemy is my friend and Regina is Emma’s enemy.7. Perhaps Emma guessing Mr Gold’s real name is part of the curse breaking process even though Cora is the miller’s daughter.
8. Probably, then probably not but Mr Gold/Rumple can lose all magic power and maybe even release from his “curse”. She is the savior meaning she can save every single person even Rumple/Mr. Gold.
9. Yes, she is in the book; confirmed by Henry. Her code name as she put it can be Pumpkin in the Cinderella episode but Henry disagrees and when asked what is a good codename Henry responds that she is not ready for it yet. It is a good chance based on all evidence that she can be Alice in Wonderland. Alice is blond like Emma. Alice does have parental problems like Emma does.
10. Yes. Jefferson said she does possess magic and Rumple did say she is more powerful than she realizes.
11. Possibly.
April 11, 2012 at 12:06 am #141775charmingParticipant9. In the story Through The Looking Glass, Alice is crowned Queen and she herself figures out that since she checkmated the white king by taking out the white queen that she was the red queen all along. In Alice in Wonderland, Alice and the Mad Hatter have tea. The Hatter tells Alice he has to have tea at 6pm eternally. In the Hatter episode Jefferson tells Emma that tea time was something he missed with his daughter. Mary hits Jefferson with a crocket stick and in chapter 9 of the book deals with crocket. So Emma being Alice in fairlytale land may not be that far off. Emma and Mary Margaret are the only 2 storybrooke people to meet Jefferson/ Mad Hatter but Emma being the only one who has had direct conversations with him. Hmmmmmmm….. Maybe????? Alice…Emma …..could be I’d say.

Very interesting analysis. I agree that Emma should be careful of who she allies ehrself with. Even though I like Mr. Gold, I’m not blind. The man is trouble in its purest form. The same goes with Sydney. It’ll be interesting to witness Emma’s journey through each trial and tribulation. She’ll undoubtedly face some huge obstacles, but she’s strong. I have faith in Emma. 😉

1. Why is Emma Swan the “key” to breaking the curse?
2. Will Emma Swan need to be sacrificed in order to break the curse?
3. How does Emma Swan’s presence effect the lives of those in Storybrook?
4. How will Emma Swan’s “key status” effect the destiny of her son Henry?
5. What is Emma Swan’s relation to August W. Booth?
6. Will Emma Swan ever develop an alliance with Mr. Gold?
7. Will Emma Swan ever guess Mr. Gold’s true name?
8. If so, will she have supreme power over Mr. Gold/Rumpelstiltskin?
9. Will Emma Swan ever have a Fairytale counterpart?
10. Is Emma Swan’s ability to tell when people are lying a mystical power?
11. Will Emma Swan ever develop mystical powers?1) It seems to be connected to Rumple bottling a hair from Snow and Charming. If why can find out why and for what reason and determine if there is a connection to Emma then for that part of it is unknown. Jefferson did say she had magic. She did start the clock tower again. She was also the first person to stand up to Regina and Rumple. After she stood up to Rumple, Dr. Hopper then stood up to her. She basically nearly completed two storylines. True North and The Cinderella story. Finally, after kissing Graham got him to remember who he was and also believe it too even though Emma didn’t nor did she realize.
2) I don’t know. I hope if she does, her sacrifice will not be a life; hers or another’s but a symbolic one.
3) I think everything I wrote in one can apply to this one too.
4) Perhaps the deal she made with Mr. Gold for Ashley’s baby is going to come into play. Maybe it is connected to what was said between Gold and Regina regarding Henry.
5) I think other than whoever August was in FTL, his role and job is Guardian of the book and of Emma and now Henry. Perhaps Emma and August will be more than just Guardian and guarded or just friends but perhaps BF and GF??
6) Yes but I do not believe it will be a full one with complete trust. He is too sneaky to have anyone’s complete trust.
7) Maybe she is the one who has to guess his name to beat him.
8) Hmmmmm hard to tell what can happen if that is the “Rumple curse breaker”. The fairy tales; every version has a different outcome. That is a very good question.
9) Yes and having gone through all of my theories and having read all of the other theories; I have settled on Emma. Yes, Emma is Emma’s Fairy Tale Name/Character. She is in the book Henry has as Emma. So why not. We have seen this first the very beginning and sometimes the answer we all seek is right in front of us all along. I hope I am right about this. I want to put money on this but I mostly lose when I gamble.
10) No…..it is a skill that most all law enforcement has but it is not to say that it isn’t an asset of hers. It is also a weapon in her growing arsenal.
11) Yes, according to Jefferson she has magic. if that is true and she does believe she does and in it, than why not. It will potentially be a major weapon she can use at her disposal.
April 16, 2012 at 2:48 am #142494charmingParticipantI have come to the conclusion that Emma is Princess Emma. I believe when Charming and Snow get married they become King and Queen of George and Leopold’s Kingdoms and possibly still even Midas’ kingdom. King Charming and Queen Snow are potentially in control of three realms. I no longer believe Emma is Alice in Wonderland but can safely say she is a Princess and her parents are King and Queen.
April 16, 2012 at 11:49 am #142523miaParticipantLike I pointed out in the other forum Emma is a princess, regardless of her parents already being King&Queen.

You did. However, I am refering to 2 characters comments. Rumple said that she does not realize how powerful she is. Jefferson eluded to a similiar notion but added magic to the equation. Emma is powerful in two ways. She’s an heir to 2 to 4 kingdoms. She has magic probably greater than she or any realize. She’s the savior nevertheless. The prior only supports theories of what FT Princess she could be. Emma and Henry talked about a code name for Op Cobra and Henry said she’s not ready and he told her she’s in the book which she read and burned those pages. Finally, we do not know exactly what August did for the book before he returned it to Emma to Henry. Perhaps he added the burned pages back or Emma’s story. Exactly what is new, restored or more missing is unknown. that is a $64,000 question.
April 17, 2012 at 12:32 am #142597hjbauParticipantThe whole codename conversation was, in my opinion, just Henry saying he wanted to call Emma mom, but he didn’t think she was ready yet. I do think Emma has power though and that it is important.
