Why was Emma was so surprised when Regina couldn’t remove Emma’s heart? Doesn’t she remember Cora being unable to remove her heart in S2? Emma thinks it’s because of the reveal that her name is on a gravestone, yet her heart is shielded because of her being born of true love. It seems like Snow would remember that even if Emma didn’t. So why did Emma even think the heart-splitting idea could work if she’s had proof in the past that her heart basically is shielded by the most powerful magic of all? I know, I know. My questions are pointless.

I think what the show was going for was that perhaps if Emma was willing to let her heart be taken, it would work, but because its not working that means something is wrong, hence them finding out they hades has trapped them.

I think Emma is the only one who can remove her heart, if that’s not the answer than Rumple was right, our questions are pointless!

Ha, i know. I was like right before they tried. This isn’t going to work. It’s Emma. No one can take Emma’s heart. Regina should try and take Snow’s heart and see if it work. Yeah, the writers don’t remember what happened on their own show.
I am not sure how many Dungeons and Dragons/Pathfinder players are on here but I was working on the assumption that Emma’s heart protections functioned somewhat like the spell resistance mechanic in that game .
Spell resistance in the game works like this, you always have a level of protection against magic being used against you but you can choose to lower your protection to temporarily allow for helpful magic to be used on you. The disadvantage is that that the protection is very much either on or off so removing the barrier even for a moment leaves you vulnerable to dangerous magics. I was thinking that the plot could have gone with Emma’s lower’s her protections only for Hades or someone to swoop in and attack while the opening existed.

They were acting like someone trying to take Emma’s heart had never failed before. And then they didn’t even remember, and had to solve the mystery with some other explanation.

This, I thought Emma’s heart couldn’t be taken against her will but she could lower the protection so to say and let someone take her heart if she wanted. If that were true, maybe she doesn’t wholeheartedly (such pun) want to split her heart and we are on the verge of drama how Hook in the end isn’t her true love and all that OR we get yet another storyline of Emma being closed off and how she needs to let people near her before she can hand over half of her heart.
