But Cora did get her hand inside Emma’s chest and even around her heart. It was the actual removal that was the issue. Regina, if I remember the scene correctly, couldn’t even get that far.

No you are right RG, so we have a issue occur that has happen before and everyone knows has been an issue before but we have to witness is it an issue but not consistence to how it was an issue. Honestly does anyone look after continuity on the show at this point, I am starting to have some serious doubts.

Maybe the only explanation is that Emma has her name on the tombstone, it doesn’t have to be linked with Cora and how Emma wasn’t willing to give her her heart. She might have been ready to let Regina take it out of her chest and in this case it would have worked if only their names weren’t on the “staying in the UW” list and therefore, not “having a life” or a heart to give.
The way I am understanding this, is that Emma can allow someone to take her heart, or she herself can take it. No one can take it without her permission. However an explanation confirming this would be nice. And yes, good point, Regina couldn’t even reach in to grab it like Cora did, so this was a little different. But most likely, the show forgot about Queen of Hearts and how no one can take Emma’s heart. Disappointed in Jane Espensen for not catching this in her writing of the episode.

Well that’s a crying shame since it’s one of the best episodes of the series and that Care-Bare Stare moment is probably one of the best as well.

I think it would be pretty realistic for a subconscious survival instinct to act up and shout “No!” even though Emma has been proclaiming noble self-sacrifice. I don’t think that’s the in-show reason, but still…
We haven’t seen a cost for Snow’s reverse-horcrux, but Mal was certain that people whose lives depend on magic can’t live in the “real” world. I don’t think Emma could give up the real world.
