In an effort to save Hook, Emma gave him CPR and lost her magic.
How will she get it back? Will she get it back?
And how will she feel if she does?

Alternately, and perhaps a bit more likely- maybe Emma’s magic isn’t gone because of the curse. The curse’s effect wore off like all of Zelena’s other magic, but as we can see from the end of episode 20, Emma still has it in her mind to return to New York and leave all of this behind her. Magic has no place in the life she envisions for herself and Henry, so she herself it (subconsciously) refusing to let her magic resurface. After all, with Zelena out of the way, she sees no immediate danger and no need for magic at all. She herself said she wouldn’t need it. Should Emma decide to stay and accept her role in her family and her future, her magic may very well return on its own.

I think she doesn’t have magic because she doesn’t want magic. Just as she didn’t really want to find that book. It’s there, but it’s buried, just deeply as her heart is buried.
It’s likely, though, that it will return either by TLK, or just by her own belief in herself and her magic.
She’s a bit like Neal at the moment. She’s done with magic any ready to move away from it, in my opinion.May 5, 2014 at 1:54 am #266378GaultheriaParticipantI think Emma is a more interesting character without magic, just like Batman with superpowers wouldn’t be Batman.

When those elements are in place Emma’s magic will come back and because of the journey she’ll have matured enough as a person to handle the gift responsibly. Emma’s use of magic since coming back to Storybrooke to my mind is reminiscent of Luke Skywalker circa Empire Strikes Back, full of talent but no calm controlled center to focus that potential. I get the feeling that next season will in part be Emma’s trip down the river to meet her Col. Kurtz.
On a side note, I should also point out that the fact that we’ve now seen Regina exhibit the powers of light magic (which by the way I have been saying she had all along) we need not assume that Regina is the more powerful of the two (nor should we neglect the possibility that she and Emma have equivalent power). The situation may be analogous to the way the Force in the Star Wars universe manifests itself more strongly in some individuals than others. Regina may be a Yoda to Emma’s Luke or some other such Jedi or Jedi/Sith combo. What’s clear is that the synergy bet. Emma and Regina will be integral to whatever endgame we’re in for (fingers crossed) a couple of seasons down the pike.

Agreed. She’ll get it back when she wants to believe in it.

I agree and this is a really good point. She was totally okay with loosing that part of herself. If she manages to see that it’s important to who she is, then maybe she’ll just get it back
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"May 5, 2014 at 8:56 am #266462RumplesGirlKeymasterHad another idea. They’ve been reverse-paralleling S1 for awhile, so maybe instead of Emma giving TLK to Henry, this time Henry gives TLK to Emma because he believes in her so much. Henry believed in Regina so strongly that she was able to “change” and fight Zelena. Maybe the same is true for Emma.
