Once Upon a Time showrunners Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz gave a spoiler-ific interview with TV Guide this week that gives us many a hint about what the final three episodes of Season 2 will bring, and a sneak peek at what will be revealed next season.
What we will see this season
We know that Emma is getting more to do in the last few episodes of the season, but Adam and Eddy confirmed that Emma’s magic will come into play in the end of Season 2. Hopefully, this happens in a suitably epic way. Emma seems to have a lot of untapped power that could potentially rival Regina and Rumple’s. We’d like to see her take those two down a notch.
Adam and Eddy also let slip that Emma will reveal her feelings for Neal to him. How will Neal react? And will this be before or after he discovers that his current fiance is actually a two-timing villainess hatching some sort of evil plan against Storybrooke? According to Eddy and Adam, we will learn half of the story of how Greg and Tamara met in this season and half in next. Will Neal learn any of it?
Speaking of Greg, the OUAT co-creators confirmed that we will be seeing Kurt Flynn, Greg’s missing father before the season is out. Does this mean he is still in Storybrooke? Where could Regina have stashed him? And have we seen him before?
Finally, the prophecy about Henry being Rumple’s “undoing” will “definitely” come into play in the end of Season 2, said Adam and Eddy. Last time we saw Rumple, he was seemingly embracing his dark side. This does not bode well for Henry.
What we will see next season
We suppose OUAT has to leave some of its secrets to be answered next season. What will we learn in Season 3? Well, more of the history behind how Regina adopted Henry. Regina and Rumple referenced the adoption in last week’s episode (Season 2, Episode 19: “Lacey”), but Rumple insisted he did not know who Henry was when he acquired him for Regina. There has to be more to this story, right?
It looks like we’ll also learn how August knew that Neal was Baelfire next season. Hopefully, this also means that we will eventually be seeing August as a grown man again and not just as Real Boy Pinocchio. It’s nice that Henry has a new playmate and everything, but we want August back!
