ParticipantHm. I’m not particularly buying that at the moment, simply because they are still calling Emma “The Saviour”. That means her role is not done, at least in my eyes. If she’s being called the Saviour just because she’s going to save her son, then all the rest – Hook, Snowing, Rumple, Regina – should be called saviours as well.
Which is why I also said it’s probably more about marketing. Weren’t they labeling Rumple as “A Wizard” at one point? It was all, “There’s a Saviour, a Pirate, a Wizard,” etc. Labels to make them sound like a team of heroes, and Emma’s label always has been, always will be, “Saviour”.
Oh the irony – PP locked Bae up even though he was going to have Henry in the future. I wonder how Bae left Neverland?
I think PP let Bae leave at just the right time so he’d be able to meet up with Emma, because PP got clued in that Bae was gonna be the baby daddy of the kid in the picture.
Seriously though, I really think her role hasn’t ended. She has that magic for something – it hasn’t really been utilised yet. It wouldn’t surprise me if she turns out to be stronger than PP, Rumple and Regina.
Like RG said, Emma is more powerful than the lot of them put together. We’ll for sure see her learning exactly what her magic is all about, and how to use it. I expect that’ll be an ongoing journey for her, for however long the show lasts.
P.S. Does anyone know how I can break up a quote so that I can write responses in between sentences?
You just need to put the quote tags around whatever text you wanna quote. So: [ quote]TEXT[/ quote] (without the spaces before the q’s, had to put those in so the code shows up).

True but NL is very dark, as in the absence of light. And shadows mark the passage of time, like on sundials. It depends on what you want the shadow or heart to do. When someone takes a heart it is either to kill them outright (which may not be very helpful to PP) or to control them (again, maybe not very helpful to PP). But he can remove Henry’s enchanted shadow and use it for NL and at the same time that Henry’s shadow is saving NL, it keeps Henry alive forever because of the magic being restored. Also, in PP myth, shadows are more important than hearts in that they are given much consdieration, PP always losing his shadow and so on.
I think when Regina cast the Curse, it broke the magic in NL so that it began to trickle away very slowly. PP had been stockpiling shadows for about 200 years because he has the gift of sight; he also knows that he needs the shadow of the boy who has the heart of the truest believer. He will attempt to rip off the shadow of Henry but Rumple will step in and sacrifice his Dark One’s shadow to save Henry.Wow. You’ve really thought that through! I hope now though that there might be a surprise or two or the whole season storyline is completely ruined! :O 😀 Although still not fully on board with the shadow thing, PP obviously had Bae for about 300 years and didn’t steal his shadow from him in all that time.

ParticipantThere are a lot more related discussions in the spoiler sections, though even with search restored it is hard to find some of the things we’ve batted around.
We’ve speculated about Pan’s shadows that it could be as RumplesGirl (RG) said that Pan rips them to keep NL young, or some thing where he needs the tears of children to make magic. I don’t think he takes hearts, but his shadow ripping may prove to work much the same far as controlling someone. Some speculated maybe the Shadow is a separate entity that took over Pan (Girlshitscar I think linked a story by Hans Christian Andersen, the author of the original Little Mermaid) about a shadow that does just this). I think there’s a book by Dave Barry that AngieBelle mentioned that runs with a theme related to shadows and Peter Pan, but I’m forgetting what the idea for OUAT was based on it. Anyway, the shadow magic is something new, we all seem to think, something unique to Pan.
I’ve thrown out a theory that Pan’s magic runs on belief, rather than emotion, and that’s how he can shut down magic like the Dragon or Regina (he harnessed Tamara’s and Greg’s belief in the superiority of science to actually perform magic).
As for Emma, I do not believe her job as “Savior” is done, because we have not hit the “final battle” of the prophecy. I don’t think we will until the end of the series. Also I do not believe children of “true love” exhibit magical powers automatically since Charming is one, we believe He has no magic. We think Snow is one too, and she does not. One of the writers said we shouldn’t expect all true love babies to have powers, that Emma’s special nature is not just due to her parent’s love. So I do not think we know either way whether Henry is or is not, but I do not think it will matter ever. (Other than for shipping I suppose, but not to the main plot).
What we do know is that Emma is special as part of the prophecy and the curse that affected ALL the enchanted lands, not just their home. Rumple took some of her DNA. She isn’t just “true love incarnate” but the curse is tied to her.

No, sorry but that’s not ringing right with me. They do everything on this show for a reason right? They could have called her a mother or something. Not as dramatic of course. But still. Also in season 2 Emma is wondering about her role as the Saviour when the four of them were stuck in Rumple’s cell. That makes me think her role of “The Saviour” is not done, because why would A+E include that conversation otherwise?

Lol. Been doing this since May pretty much without stop, my head is full of these theories. 🙂
And you’re right, PP didn’t take Bae’s shadow but that’s because he needed Bae to leave NL eventually and find Emma. PP’s whole goal is Henry and without Nealfire there is no Henry.

I think it’s both: marketing and that her job as Savior isn’t done. She has been called The Savior since the beginning when they were launching S1. She’ll always be the Savior in title both for plot reasons and marketing reasons.

ParticipantWow. You’ve really thought that through!
We way over think everything around here. It’s how we roll. Welcome to the madness. 😆
Some speculated maybe the Shadow is a separate entity that took over Pan
Or even that the Shadow is a previous “Pan”. If the Wraith could maybe be a previous Dark One that Rumple could summon, maybe it works the same with the Shadow of the previous Pan, (though we don’t even know yet if there’s been more than one Pan…this particular theory relates to how PP traditionally carries a dagger, which Rumple also has, so maybe they’re similar beings).
As for Emma, I do not believe her job as “Savior” is done, because we have not hit the “final battle” of the prophecy. I don’t think we will until the end of the series.
I’ve recently started thinking that the “final battle” is gonna be whatever goes down with PP trying to kill Henry, and Rumple trying to sacrifice himself to save Henry, and Henry ultimately exhibiting some sort of magic of his own that makes both of the baddie’s dark powers go *POOF*. PP thinks his prize in this deal is gonna be bonus power. Rumple thinks he’s gonna die. But really, the prophecy is about “undoing” the darkness of both Pan and the Dark One, and Henry’s the special kid who has what it takes. I’m sure Emma’s magic will still play a role in all the NL happenings somehow, but when it comes to the climax of the storyline, I’m (currently) envisioning it all being about Rumple and PP, with Henry in the middle.
No, sorry but that’s not ringing right with me. They do everything on this show for a reason right? They could have called her a mother or something.
They couldn’t label only one of Emma or Regina as a “Mother” though, and each character needs their own little label.
Also in season 2 Emma is wondering about her role as the Saviour when the four of them were stuck in Rumple’s cell. That makes me think her role of “The Saviour” is not done, because why would A+E include that conversation otherwise?
That’s a fair point. I’ve always just though of Emma in that scene as feeling defeated, so her “some Saviour, huh” is just, “here I was thinking I was pretty cool for breaking the Curse and slaying a dragon, but it turns out I suck, huh.”
Who let him know that I wonder? Possibly *cough*Rumple*cough*
Rumple was likely in NL at some point after becoming the Dark One because it’s likely where the Curse originated, (and I also think he was briefly there as a child too), but I dunno that he knew Bae was there at the time, because I think if Rumple knew Bae was there, he’d have been trying to get him outta there, instead of looking for a way to our world. But if Hook could deduce who Bae was from what he said about his father, odds are that PP could figure out who Bae was as well, just by talking to Rumple.
Lets not talk about the ending of the show *sniffles*
Deal! 😉
Thanks for that!
No worries. 🙂

ParticipantI think they do a lot of things for reasons, but NOT everything. Especially when it comes to marketing, and especially because sometimes they change the plot direction.
This is more or less how TV writers operate, in the middle between a master plan, with room to embroider in details that might even change significant things. As proof, look at Hook, Belle, Ruby, Hatter and Mirror. These characters roles changed due to various things related to actor availability, fan reaction and copyright issues. The entire S2 storyline was reworked when they got rights to NL, and Ruby’s role became smaller and Hook’s bigger. Belle was added in due to the actress being available for more than they thought and positive fan reaction. Hatter and Mirror have unresolved plot lines that have to hang until the talented actors can portray them–unless they want to recast like they did with RobinHood (and they said they do not want to recast, meaning, there is room to move the story around). So some of this moving around means to me, that some things just happen in the story and not every detail has significant meaning.I do think the use of “Savior” for Emma is largely a marketing handle, just like putting Wizard on Rumple, it totally is trying to create familiar roles so people can relate to the story and the characters. At the same time, I think Emma is not done with her role as Savior, so we may see that again in promotion. It is who she is in the story, the main protagonist moving the plot forward.

Well we can agree on that at least 🙂

KeymasterYes the marketing team’s job is to come up with something pithy and memorable to stick inside people’s head. So, you have “The Princess” “The Knight” “The Wizard” (which to me is an odd classification for Rumple but they can’t do “The Dark One” or something) “The Pirate” “The Queen” “The Savior” They are all true but they also are designed to be a marketing strategy.
However, I think Emma is probably the most powerful person in all the lands because she is magic, not just magical, but pure magic in human form. So yes, her role will never be done.

ParticipantBack in the official ABC podcast for episode 2×22, Eddy and Adam confirmed that Emma is a reluctant hero who gets freaked out a bit by her own magical ability. Also, when she combined her magic with Regina, she was able to save the entire town from the fail-safe. E &A have strongly hinted that we’ll be seeing a lot more of Emma’s magical ability in S3. There was also a spoiler that Regina might train Emma to use magic. Both Rumple and Regina have been repeatedly amazed by Emma. She is destined for greatness. So, I think there are plenty of reasons to believe that not only was Emma destined to break the curse, but she is also meant to save everyone repeatedly, as she did in the end of S2.
