“The Outsider” (January 13): Mr. Gold finds an unwilling test subject to see if a spell he has concocted will allow him to cross the border of Storybrooke — without losing his memory — and go in search of his son, Bae; Belle stumbles upon a vengeful Hook in the Storybrooke harbor whose main goal is to eradicate Rumplestiltskin; and Mary Margaret and David go house hunting in search of a bigger place to live. Meanwhile, in the fairytale land that was, Belle meets Mulan as the two set out to slay a fearsome beast called the Yaoguai, who has been ravaging the land. Ethan Embry will guest star in this episode as a “stranger/outsider” and Christopher Gauthier will also be returning as Smee.

Thank goodness that the Charming clan is finally looking for a new place. Maybe they finally realize this after Emma and possibly Henry walk in on them in those steamy scenes from the previous episode.
The past FTL part doesn’t sound interesting to me at all. I want to see them use both characters more, but at least right now without seeing it, it feels more like, “let’s just put those two together because they need more time” rather than it being something organic to the story.

And as far as Mr. Gold’s “unwilling test subject,” I think it’ll probably be Smee. I’m pretty sure he’s still trapped in Mr. Gold’s basement. 😆
What if the unwilling test subject is Moe French? He did try to erase Belle’s memory after all.
As for Belle and Mulan teaming up, it must take place between Belle leaving the dark castle and being captured by Regina. Perhaps after Belle’s scene in Dreamy.
The Rumple and Regina scene in Skin Deep at the dark castle must take place several weeks/months after Belle left which would explain why Rumple believed Regina about Belle’s death.

Personally, I love the idea of Belle and Mulan going on an adventure together. I kind of have an obsession with seeing Belle with a sword. I just want to see her kill something.
And poor Smee. He’s going to be Mr. Gold’s new guinea pig isn’t he? GOOD! He deserves it for kidnapping Belle.

I don’t think Rumple’s spell will work because he asks Emma to search for Bae and Belle is despondent in the next episode
