Being from our world doesn’t have to mean, that he is ordinary, or ordinary only in the sense, that he has no colorful magical realms past. The more I think of it, the more I like the idea to bring someone from our world into the mix. Access to magic, dark magic, means to power – that can be tempting. Not sure if this Barrett is it, it might be too early to bring up such a story arc, but think it would be interesting to explore it.

On one hand, I think there’s a lot of potential for a great story there. On the other hand, I like the town being full of characters from other worlds and exploring that without having to worry about people from our world going into the town. I would worry that the show might possibly go in a different direction with the townspeople having to worry about the Maine and/or US government coming in and investigating them or outsiders coming in trying to get magic to use for their own gain, and the townspeople having to suppress their other world identities again instead of being from both worlds when they’re in public.
I really want them to explore the other magical lands that were seen in Jefferson’s hats first because what got me invested in the show in the first place was the idea of fairy tale characters being trapped in our world. I wasn’t interested in seeing how outsiders would react with them or vice versa, I just wanted to explore their lives more, and while they’ve done that with some of the characters, for me there’s still a lot that can be done with the characters from magical worlds first without adding real world outsiders to the mix just yet. If the show goes on that long, then towards the end of its run, I think that a story line about Storybrooke residents vs. outsiders could definitely work because by that time, we’ll hopefully get to see most if not all the worlds that were behind the doors in Jefferson’s hats, and meet at least one character from those worlds, and then I could see it being about whether or not people want to return to their old worlds knowing that they probably won’t ever see the other characters again or stay in this world even if it means suppressing their other world identity. Or some other story line where it’s all of the magical world people vs. outsiders.

This makes sense to me too because they may want to keep his true identity a secret so that they can reveal it next year like with Dr. Whale’s identity. We already know that they’re going to reveal the contents of August’s box, Cora’s life when she was younger, and what happened to Rumple’s son, so they need new mysteries that won’t be revealed until next season.
I like the idea of Barrett being a Sandman type of character only because I think it would be fitting to wherever the writers are going with these story lines about the conscious and unconscious realms. However, Barrett being Peter Pan is my second favorite Barrett theory because Ethan Embry looks so much like what I picture an adult Peter Pan to look like. Also, if they don’t kill/banish Hook by next season, I could see Barrett clashing with Hook. (Although I really don’t know how that’s going to work unless someone zaps Hook with a memory charm, and he forgets all about his vendetta against Rumple because there’s no way that both can live in Storybrooke together.)
AntBee: I haven’t be able to find anything confirming Neal having nightmares besides the fact that he has a dream catcher which many people do even without nightmares, and also haven’t found the pic of him running away on the photos of Manhattan. Could you post a link here so I can find them. I would be very grateful.
Unfortunately, Neal having nightmares is just a theory because it seemed like he was very eager to hold onto the dream catcher after Emma told him what it does rather than just keeping it for sentimental reasons.
I know there’s pictures out there, at least of MRJ’s stunt double running and Emma running after him, but I can’t find them right now. There was this though from here, http://vancityfilming.com/vancouver-plays-new-york-for-once-upon-a-time-filming/#JrXPwzZMj3SBCzMf.99
The first scene I saw filming was of Michael Raymond-James and Jennifer Morrison running into an alley way. This was a really quick scene and they only did two takes! Something that I have never scene on a Once set before. Next up was Jennifer Morrison on her own running across a busy street and almost getting hit by a NYC Taxi cab whilst chasing Michael Raymond-James’s body double towards the alley way. The first time that Jennifer ran across the street, her double showed her how to do it with her following closely behind. Then she did it on her own. The ground underneath was incredibly wet and the sidewalk was slippery, so she had to have a couple of the crew to help her stop without falling down.
January 6, 2013 at 3:18 pm #167127PriceofMagicParticipantI wonder if Barett being able to enter Storybrooke has something to do with Rumple being able to leave Storybrooke. All magic comes with a price, what if the price is that by Rumple breaking the barrier curse, Storybrooke is no longer protected from outsiders.
Crazy theory: What if Storybrooke isn’t the only town created by the curse? There were a lot of worlds in Jefferson’s hat. Enchanted Forest, Wonderland, Neverland and Oz are the only ones we know about so far. There’s no way Storybrooke can hold all the residents of at least four worlds and remain a little town (assuming the dark curse affected the other worlds). What if there were other isolated little towns like Storybrooke trapped in time. Barett may be an outsider to Storybrooke but come from another town created by the curse. Perhaps that is where August currently is?
In Lost, season 1 focussed on one set of survivors from the plane crash then in Season 2, it was revealed that there was another set of survivors from the same plane crash living on the other side of the island. It’s not impossible that they may do that with OUAT. Focus on one town and its residents throughout season 1 then reveal that there were other towns all along. It would be a good way to introduce new characters without the “so and so was in Storybrooke all along and we never ever saw them until now”.
All magic comes with a price!

Yes, I wouldn’t mind them doing something like that as long as the outsiders came from other fictional worlds. I’m sure that the writers could have outsiders from our world enter Storybrooke, and I’d still enjoy it, but for now I just want to see more of the other worlds and people from those places first.
Mostly though, I’m worried about the show being able to write characters from the real world in a logical way that doesn’t lead to more problems that the writers just never address. Like with the rules of magic, aside from the set rule about not being able to bring anyone back from the dead, it seems like they just make stuff up along as they go, and then over time, little problems start to snowball. For instance, they keep saying magic works differently here, but aside from maybe one or two instances, it seems that this only applies when it’s convenient. It doesn’t bother me too much, but it is annoying because they made such a big deal about it, and it really hasn’t been an issue at all.

Was just posting in the promo thread before about how I’m thinking it’s Hook that gets hit by Barrett’s car, based on who we’ve seen out in the forest in snippets thus far. It’d be sorta perfect if Peter Pan’s first order of business as he came barreling into town was to smash into Hook.
Much as I love the idea that Nealfire was Peter Pan, the theory of Barrett being Peter has been growing on me too. I just hope that if he is, that Nealfire was still a Lost Boy.

Oh Phee! Love that idea! Payback for PP! LOL! Hard to let go of something we’ve been on since last winter, isn’t it? At least half of our theory panned out in relation to Nealfire. Like you, I’m warming up to Barrett being PP. Makes sense, as he’ll be in a coma for the rest of the season and we won’t be seeing PP til next season. Besides, the name Barrett seems to be a dead giveaway.

lol, now he just has to be Peter Pan.
Also, I doubt they’d keep Hook in the hospital for the rest of the season or at least most of it, but I think it would be hilarious if Barrett and Hook had to share a room together for awhile without Hook knowing Barrett was really Peter Pan. I could see Barrett being all chummy with Hook and wanting to help him out against Gold, and then Barrett ends up actually getting Hook in the end. 😆

LOL AntBee! I’m envisioning it now! The hospital scene brings on a whole new meaning when thinking about a Bucket List.

Hee!!! I know since Private Practice is ending this season, and Grey’s Anatomy should probably have wrapped up while ago, and Last Resort and Park Avenue 666 didn’t even survive a half season, I wouldn’t mind seeing them spin-off Hook and Barrett, assuming he’s Peter Pan, into their own show. I would prefer a sitcom and not an hour long drama like OUaT, but as long as they both characters really snarky, I wouldn’t mind it being a drama or dramedy.
