If Regina tried to have Daniel reanimated by Dr. Whale – and he succeeded but Daniel came back mainly physically (no cognitive abilities or memories of Regina) …That would explain why the actor playing Daniel was filming (I think it was for the fifth episode). We know from Jefferson how she treats deals, so if Daniel wasn’t back 100% – I’m beating Regina never paid up her side of the bargain. Could that be part of the reason he was the first member of the mob to get his hands around her neck?
We also know how Regina likes to take people’s hearts: the one organ Daniel would be in need of to become Frankenstein’s monster…Another great theory GoldenKey! 😀

Also i am not trying to be a jerk, but defibrillators do not start your heart beating when it stops, that is a tv thing, they actually can only work when your heart is out of rhythm and the shock can help your heart return to regular rhythm. If your heart is not beating then a defibrillator would do nothing.
THANK YOU!! 😀 !! I could not add that to the previous argument without sounding like a horrible person.

yes! he would not create a creature but rather try to bring back a loved one (it sounds a lot less silly like that!
now, all that’s left to do is for me, to get ready to apologize to everyone for being so intense about this theory when it turns out to be something completely different! (let’s face the cold hard truth here, surely no one has figured it out and we will all be flabbergasted when we learn the truth!)

Thanks Lil’Red 🙂

They also made Jiminy be a human as well. Maybe i just think that Frankenstein is sort of the most laughable monster already, having never read the book, that is just how i feel about that story. So for them to add something like that, which is already inherently silly, to this show is not a good idea, in my opinion.

Yeah, i understand. I hope that no one took that the wrong way. I mean i thought that too before because that is how defibrillators work on tv just so they can flat line and make that nice tone of death on the screen and then shock them back to life and see their heart blip back on the machine. That just isn’t actually what a defibrillator does.

So a character from a science fiction novel from the 1800s certainly wouldn’t be off limits.

September 23, 2012 at 6:26 am #154375fairy dustParticipantI am really hoping, “The Doctor” is Dr. Frankenstein. I was reading about James Whale (director of Frankenstein) and how he realized his interest in drama as a prisoner of war (WWI) and after the war became an actor, set designer, builder, stage manager and director. That got me to thinking about the Sheriff’s debate (Desperate Souls) that was held on the stage of City Hall. I remembered there were stage props in the background that were obviously used for theater. Here are some screen shots I took. There are several whales or large fish visible. As I lightened the pictures, the details became more visible.

That was the first thing that popped into my mind too. Would make travelling to different worlds possible from SB if the Tardis was parked somewhere in town. 😉 Pretty sure Dr Who is owned by the BBC though, so unlikely they’d be able to use him on Once.

I sort of think they should keep into the mythical realm as well and not get into the science arena. I don’t think Frankenstein fits with what they are doing here. I also think it would feel laughable and the show needs to keep itself from feeling that way.

I did not know that about defibrillators (I couldn’t even spell it properly) I’d only seen them used on tv so that’s why I thought they could restart the heart.

Werewolves are not fairy tale characters and they’ve incorporated them into the series. So why would Dr. Frankenstein be such a stretch? Frankenstein is part of Marvel Comics and Disney owns Marvel. They said we could possibly see Marvel characters showing up. It’s story book characters and not just fairy tale characters. Dr. Whale has a history with EQ. I’m sure EQ would love to have her father Henry & Daniel back.
I hope Marvel characters don’t show up outside of the comics Henry reads. Having Spiderman or Wolverine running around town would just kill the show for me. Also werewolves are more mythical than Frankenstein. Frankenstein came into existence with the book, werewolves and vampires existed in folk legends long before they were popularised.

True, but the nurse and the janitor or whoever he was probably won’t be seen again. They were a nice little nod to the book, but they weren’t important characters, any other character could have filled in for them.
Doctor Whale seems to be more important than they were. Also what if some of the clues we have about Whale’s identity are red herrings. We assume the name “Whale” has some significance to his identity but what if it doesn’t. “David Nolan” has no significance to Charming.
Another theory that occurred to me was what if Dr Whale is a greek god. They’ve already used Midas so they are not avoiding Greek mythology.
Maybe Hades, lord of the underworld?- As a doctor, his decisions could make the difference between life and death. He’d be a god therefore he would have “a god complex”. “Frames himself a victor in all conflicts”- death always wins- nobody can beat death.
All magic comes with a price!
