Oh, another thought, what if Lacey was the original name of Storybrooke. In other worse, the town was there but it was abandoned or something and it became Storybrooke when the curse hit.

Lil’Red I think it is a great idea. I mean if it is a Neal/Bae story it could be definitely a city name (Talahassee, Manhattan). This is not a odd idea.
Good point. It’d be fun if they kept the place name theme going for his eps. This may come too soon after “Manhattan” to be another Neal ep though. Mind you, “Manhattan” will likely be as much about Rumple and Emma as it is about Neal, so “Lacey” could then be the actual Nealfire centric ep.

In the odd chance ‘Lacey’ isn’t the name of a person/character – Lacey Township, New Jersey is pretty much along the Jersey Shore line – and if Nealfire is true, this could be the location Bae entered this world (based on Neal’s wanted poster..) But part of me is just wanting some Dylan Schmid backstory before the actor gets too much older. 😆
This is interesting and it would be great to get Nealfire’s backstory if Manhattan winds up being strictly about Rumple.

As a Nealfire/Swanfire fan, I have to admit I might be biased that I like this idea for whom or what Lacey is than it being the mysterious HER or Belle’s Storybrooke name.
Not that I don’t want to know who HER is, but unless it’s similar to how Cora was introduced in “The Stable Boy”, I’m not sure I want a whole episode about HER right before the season comes to an end if there’s still a lot of lose ends about the other characters to tie up first. It just depends on who HER is, and how that might tie in with this season.
I also would like seeing more of Belle’s Storybrooke identity during the Curse, but I also agree that I want a back story about Nealfire before Dylan Schmid looks too much older. I’ve seen pictures of him from that ferret movie, and I’m not sure exactly when he filmed that, but he already looks quite older than he did on OUaT.
Plus, since this episode follow the episode that is likely about August, it would be like last year’s episodes about August and Nealfire, which aired around the same time that “Selfless, Brave and True” and “Lacey” would air this season. The only difference would be that August’s episode would come first this time, and then Nealfire’s instead of how “The Return” set up “The Stranger”.
I didn’t really notice anything that stuck out while looking at Lacey Township on the map. Double Trouble State Park is located partly in Lacey, and I could see that being a place that Nealfire may have landed given that trouble has followed Neal around all his life, and the name makes me think of the Witches that were in Macbeth. Scottish play (father with a Scottish accent) + prophecy that leads to murder (Macbeth = Rumple, Lady Macbeth = Regina) + Witches.
Also, Barnegat Bay is the setting for E.B. White’s essay “The Family That Dwelt Apart”. It doesn’t really sound like the weird family tree of Henry’s except that there were seven members of a family (Henry, Emma, Neal, Rumple, Charming, Snow, and Regina?) who all lived in happy isolation on a small island in Barnegat Bay until word gets out they are in distress.
You can watch the 1973 Canadian Animated Short based on the essay, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jGGh-5a0tsU, to get a better idea of what kind of havoc outsiders wreak on the isolated island.

Double Trouble State Park…never thought of him landing in a wooded area…always pictured him popping into an alley way somewhere…don’t ask me why..I have no idea lol. But I do think it would be interesting to see how he adjusts to our world. At 14 I would think it would have been harder for him to adjust to our world than August or Emma.
Emma knew nothing of FTL and Pinocchio was still pretty young when he came from FTL (although I’m not sure how long he was a wooden puppet over there). I would think that Bae would be in shock at all the things that he saw…our technology probably would have looked like magic to him. And I would think he would have learned real fast that he couldn’t use the name Baelfire to introduce himself. People probably would have looked at him a little oddly.
February 4, 2013 at 6:54 pm #171543lilredParticipantAntBee -Maybe because of all the recent hiatuses, but it really didn’t even occur to me that this is one of the final episodes of the season until now! Really don’t see how they could get away with keeping the Baelfire backstory for another year. After showing us both Emma and August arriving into this world, it would feel strange not to see Dylan’s Bae entering our world and taking up his story at that point. I guess it’s possible to meet up with this character years later and have him monologue about his past – but there always seemed a connection and symmetry between these three characters (the lost fairytale generation/misplaced children) – that exists for me even if Nealfire isn’t right.
I’m not convinced that Belle had a counterpart – mainly because we know Regina was keeping her to kill/hold over Rumpel’s head. I just can’t see Regina putting much effort after awhile (especially if she was just going to be locked in a basement). Whatever false backstory Belle was given by Regina, I think that might be answered sooner than this – it looks like Nurse Ratched, Belle, and Red will have some scene time in Tiny based on the new promo. So after next week, I’d say ‘Lacey’ possibly being Belle may be confirmed or denied – at least the possibility of her having a counterpart.
Part of me is going to always feel that Bae not landing in ‘Beantown’ was a waste and a shame – https://oncepodcast.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=1247 – but have always imagined him landing in a forested area, something similar to home for him. Plus, both August and Emma landed in a forest and I’m probably too invested in parallels between these characters! What a scene that would be, IMHO, to have Bae land in a forest and for a moment think the bean had failed and he’s still in the enchanted forest- disoriented enough to start calling for his papa, and then wander into civilization! Seeing the lights on the boardwalk?
As for Macbeth – the second half of the season sounds like it will be very prophecy heavy – even if it’s all only about one prophecy or something. And this prophecy seems like it will probably be related back to Rumpel (what isn’t on this show?) and possibly Bae. If all the English majors involved with this show bypass a chance to have some Shakespearean allusions and imagery – I would be very surprised.
Mich7 – you bring up a good point! Whoever Bae is, he probably had the hardest time adapting to this world, after entering it as a teenager. His culture and morality would have been of a medieval peasants. The only positive I can think of would be that Bae only spent around two or three years in the system – but then he probably had very little to ground him afterwards..
February 4, 2013 at 7:53 pm #171552angiebelleParticipantI guess I’m a bit biased…Belle is my very favorite- long before OuaT. I have used the screenname AngieBelle in her honor since I was 15. I love the idea of Lacey being Belle’s Storybrooke name because that would mean we are getting a Belle centric episode- likely a RumBelle episode in which he earns her love again and brings back her memories. I want to see him fight for her.
Did Regina personally create *everyone’s* Storybrooke backstory? She couldn’t have possibly known everything about everyone. Obviously, she had some control, but how much?
I hope they will tell us in the next episode whether Belle has an identity.
February 4, 2013 at 9:01 pm #171562lilredParticipantLove Belle too, and it makes me pretty sad to think about her just sitting there for 28 years in a haze – but I really do think Regina had a lot of control with everyone’s backstory. It hasn’t been confirmed but ever since her session with Archie, when she described who she brought over and why she brought Daniel, I started working under the assumption that she had ultimate control in how everything turned out under the curse. Rumpel even needed to make a deal with Regina to get the life he wanted in Storybrooke, otherwise I’d see him writing a clause into the curse itself. I’m guessing we’ll have to wait until Welcome to Storybrooke to see if this is a possibility or not. I could see her having characters like Belle and Abigail set to a default function – until they are needed in Regina’s ‘happily ever after’. We really don’t know if Abigail had a job and anything personal going on until Charming woke up and the curse altered her ‘story’. Just a theory, but we’ll see if we learn more in the next few episodes. 😀
February 5, 2013 at 5:41 pm #171654hooks spyglassParticipantI think this will totally be Nealfire Centric . we had The return /The Stranger last year now Brave Selfless True followed by Lacey . I think we will see Bae appear in Lacey NJ (his b”birth” place ) and his life
February 5, 2013 at 7:43 pm #171664RumplesGirlKeymasterI love how many theories there are about this episode!!
I still think it might be “HER”; we may not actually see HER but maybe it will focus on Greg and who he is.
