I think Rumple only asked Cora for help because he was desperate to get Belle back after she lost her memory. It’s possible that, whilst true love’s kiss may be the general fix for any situation, some situations may require a specific solution kind of like a snake bite from a poisonous snake needs a specific anti-venom.
I think Rumple has learned a lot by himself, even if it is through trial and error, however he does not know everything.

Keeper of FelixJuly 5, 2013 at 5:57 pm #199601RumplesGirlKeymasterI agree that’s why he asked Cora for help, but he seems to assumed that somehow Cora learned more magic without him, magic he may not know which would imply that she had help.
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"July 5, 2013 at 6:04 pm #199602JosephineParticipantNo, he doesn’t know everything. Look how long it took him to bottle “true love”, or at least a version of it (you guys know what I mean).
With all those books in the Dark Castle, I wonder if Belle has learned anything about magic. She adores books so I think if Rumple has any texts that she could get her hands on she would have devoured them, even if it was only to get a better understanding of her master. She might know some stuff that’s going to surprise us.
Rumple’s gaining of power through the years is also the reason I hope if his Dark Curse is ever broken before the series end that he’s not totally devoid of magic. The seer’s powers were independent of the Dark One. Who knows? Eddy and Adam said you had to be born with the spark of magic, so I wonder if Rumple was and that’s why he was sought out to begin with.

July 5, 2013 at 11:18 pm #199605PheeParticipantI think Rumple’s style of learning was likely just to discover information and steal powers on his own, rather than having someone teach him. If you ask to be taught, it means you’re admitting you can’t figure something out yourself, and Rumple is loathe to admit that. Especially in FTL, he had a rep to build and uphold as an all powerful being to be feared. Sort of puts a dent in that if you then go around asking others to teach you things. It would mean exposing himself as having a weakness.

"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"July 23, 2013 at 5:39 pm #201698LaurenParticipanti just had a random thought.. we know that neverland runs on belief .. and that peter is doing what he is for some warped reason.. what if Tinkerbell is dying or neverland is and someone had a vision like the seer did that one day a boy of the truest belief will come to neverland and only then will the darkness lift…
all characters atm on once have never started out evil they were always good or had some morals but circumstances happened and that changed them.. they always did the evil things to right the wrong thing that was done to them… cora being tripped and ridiculed.. George’s wife being cursed.. Regina’s true love being lost…
so what is peter’s motivation… his body being held captive? tinkerbell and the other fairies dying? magic dwindling at neverland so that is why he needs the heart of the truest believer?
i cant wait for some answers aaaaaaaargh goin crazzy
July 23, 2013 at 5:51 pm #201699LOST LOVERParticipantNot sure if this was mentioned … I have not read all 11 pages of postings but the heart of truest believer could refer to Henry and also maybe pan in a back story ( or is it too soon to see a backstory of a new character). Or maybe pan wants to trade Henry’s heart for rumples? I think our newest lost boy will definitely turn out to be pan since the breakdown describes pan perfectly and they don’t need 2 characters with the same personality. Okay … So those are my random thoughts for the moment. 2 months left to go … I am not sure i can take it!

Eddy mentioned at Comic-Con when talking about Neverland and Tinkerbelle (I think) that you have to believe. I have to go back and get the full quote, but I think it all ties into believing in fairies, or some tangent of that. We know Blue and the other fairies exist so I don’t know what route their going to go with.
I do think Henry is the truest believer no matter what is going on. But like I said before, it might refer to everyone. Everyone has to believe in something. Each person has their own struggles and has to do their own soul searching.
I need that episode NOW!

Just wanted to add to this thought: I recently read “The Child Thief”, a PP book that is in no way connected to the original story and has been mentioned in some way shape or form a number of times on the forum. While I don’t think that E&A are directly telling this story, I can’t imagine that they haven’t read this as they are huge PP fans, and there are a number of factors that are eerily similar and I thought I’d share a few because they definitely could fill in some holes:
– Nobody can leave Neverland, but mostly because PP is the only one with the ability to. Although he doesn’t exactly take anyone home either…
– PP kidnaps runaways, orphans, etc. Kids that don’t want to be found or go home. And because of their background…
– “The Lost Ones” are loyal, vicious followers of PP. He basically kidnaps them to train them as warriors to fight the adults who have found their way into NL
– Neverland is dying. He is obsessively devoted to “The Lady”, whose magic keeps NL alive and prevents them from aging.
– And why is NL dying, you may ask? Essentially because NL, the Lady, etc’s powers are all based on faith (ie belief!). Because nobody believes in them anymore. There’s a whole lot more to this book than that, and it’s incredibly dark (don’t read it unless you’re ok with excessive violence, strong language, etc.) but those are the basic points that really struck me while reading it and seeing the links between our little hints and recent spoilers. Another book referenced forever ago (haven’t read it yet) is “PP and the Shadow Thief” in which the villain steals peoples shadows to control them. IMO, I think they could be using these as well as canon from the other PP stories we know and love. They definitely will put their own spin on the story, but I thought it worth mentioning these books again.
Thoughts?
