I wonder what happens when you rip someone’s shadow vs when you rip out someone’s heart. When you rip out a heart they become your servant and will do your bidding. But we haven’t seen the boys who have had their shadows ripped off and what it does to them.
Based on what Felix said about how painful shadow ripping is, he may have been speaking from first-hand experience. If PP indeed ripped Felix’s shadow, then based on Felix’s servitude, I’d say it makes a person into a minion of PP.

I was sure he’d been speaking from experience. But then someone noticed that at the end of that scene, as Felix is walking out the door, you clearly see his shadow passing over Hook’s face. If Felix didn’t have his shadow, they could have easily shot that differently so it didn’t show up.

Assuming Henry is still alive, (I know it’s been implied that he’ll have to die, but perhaps Felix just said that because PP wants the kid’s heart, and Felix assumes that will kill the kid), I assume he’d be enslaved to PP, who has his heart in his possession. They wouldn’t be able to straight up kill PP to rescue Henry, because if PP dies, so does Henry. So they’d have to figure out a way to get Henry’s heart back.
Sounds a lot like the Harry Potter prophesy about him and the Dark Lord. “either must die at the hand of the other for neither can live while the other survives”

That seems pretty logical. So then PP must want Henry’s heart for something other than making him a minion. I wonder if, like you and Phee are suggesting, PP doesn’t have heart and that is what chains him to NL, only his shadow is free to roam other lands. By getting the heart of the truest believer, PP can leave NL.

Hmmmm, well either there goes my theory or else the show’s editors did a really poor job with that scene.

I like this! So, does he wanna leave NL for nefarious, powerhungry reasons? Or does he just wanna leave because he’s trapped and he finally wants to be free and grow up?

I’d really been hoping for him to be shadow-less, so was sorta bummed when I kept an eye out for it on re-watch. Could have been easily avoided just by re-positioning a light if the shadow wasn’t meant to be there. Or even just using a shot of Felix going out the door, and not showing the shot of Hook until after he’d already walked past.

In a twitter question one time, Adam said that their PP would be “complicated.” So I think he is going to turn out to be someone who has good reasons for wanting to kill Henry (leaving NL) but goes about it all wrong.

While PP sounds like bad news for Henry and the rest of the gang, he may be a boy trapped in a cursed state. So, in a sense, he may end up being a tragic villain, much like Rumple is. When he acts out, it’s like a child throwing a temper tantrum because he doesn’t get his way. But, underneath, his own trapped heart is crying out for his own mother. It would be very interesting to see the writers contrast PP with Henry, who in his own longing for his mother, Emma, he chose to have faith that good always wins.

That would be a very interesting contrast for them to play around with.
