The problem is that they are not telling their story. The writers haven’t been telling their story since they changed it for fans back in Season 3. Also, the show is inconsistent. They can’t write inconsistencies and then not realize they are going to get criticized for it. I do agree though that they should just stop doing interviews. At least, Eddie just shouldn’t be aloud to talk in public.

We’ve moved past that stage in fandom when they’ll ever be able to mollify their audience and there are times when I do feel bad for them but at the same time I don’t because they bring so much of it on themselves by A) writing a show that is wholly inconsistent week to week in terms of world building, character, and themes and B) by poking the proverbial bear by passively-aggressively saying things like “seeing all 3,000 tweets every five seconds” because fans are upset over the, admittedly, unfair death of a, again admittedly, bland undeveloped character. I mean…wow. They might have to walk on eggshells because the fanbase will attack them for just about anything, but they don’t help matters. There is no hard nor fast rule, no law, that states they have to be as active on Twitter as they are–they can only tweet out titles and script teases and save all of us a bit of a headache.
In one move they can claim that they love their fans, have the best, most passionate fans in the world, and then turn around and mock/criticize said fandom for daring to speak up and out. They like us and appreciate us when we’re fans. When we’re not behaving in a manner they deem “fanlike” then we’re a nuisance, obnoxious, demanding and annoying.
(and hey, I’m not giving the fandom a pass. This is the most toxic fanbase I’ve ever seen with some truly eyeroll worthy behavior)
I know I’m broken record, and I know you actually agree with me, but they need to get off Twitter, they need to stop doing fan-run interviews (questions from fans and not TV people like Natalie or Matt M) because a good swath of the social-media based fandom is unhappy. It’s why SDCC has become such a listless affair over the past few years with tightly controlled, pre-screened questions. And it sucks because on the one hand, I like hearing from the creators, I like getting to hear their perspective on things, but on the other hand they always manage to say something insensitive, hostile, alarming (I’m still not over the whole ‘we have to change things once the audience figures it out’ debacle) or just plain stupid.

Pretty much all of this. Like I really do like hearing from them. I like getting little tidbits of spoilers and hints of what’s to come. Problem is they either say the wrong thing sometimes or they give us a hint that never comes to fruition. I think I’d hate it more if we never heard from them, but yes, some things they say are incredibly annoying, and for me I get annoyed the most when they tell lies (whether they mean to or not). But I also think the fan base is way too hard on them. And at this point, based on what these writers have said in the past, it doesn’t surprise me that they would make a twitter joke like that. Some of the stuff tweeted at them is unruly and ridiculous but also, how about you write a more consistent show that is your own and own it and stop catering to everyone else who should have zero say in what you guys do. Then perhaps you wouldn’t get nasty tweets sent your way. There’s blame on both sides for sure.

It is like oh they created these characters and people are upset that they died. Don’t they want people to like their characters? They only want people to like what they think they should like and only think what they think. Well, that isn’t real.

This is their work, their story, how could you ever allow the fandom figuring it out to control you. Someone is always going to figure out what is going on. There are too many filming spoilers. People deconstruct every thing that happens in the show. And why wouldn’t you want that? Why wouldn’t you want the audience to care so much that they do that? Why would you want your show to make so much sense, that what happens is perfect? I will never understand that. It is the worst thing i have ever heard a writer say.
