This thread should probably be in a spoiler section. 😉 Hopefully anyone who sees the title and doesn’t read spoilers won’t click on it.

Would it surprise anyone to know that J.M. Barrie based the name Neverland on a play that came out in 1902 called The Never Never Land, written by Wilson Barrett.
Which wouldn’t be that far removed from how they chose Whale’s name.
I’ve entertained the idea that Ethan Embry could be several different people, and can’t wait to see who he’ll end up being. GoldenKey, those are certainly some good points, and a good argument for him being Peter Pan, (and you know I’m also Team PeterisBae).
One thing I can’t seem to shake about his character is that I’m sure that Barrett will have a connection to Neal, who I’m now pretty positive has to be Bae. I’ve said several times that I love the potential for Hook’s Neverland nemesis to have been the son of the Crocodile, and also that I love the idea that the boy who famously couldn’t grow up, ended up being the father of the only boy in SB who did grow up. And I’ve also said that my whole idea of Bae going to Neverland was because when he went into the beanhole alone, his needs changed, and he no longer had to go to a land where his father’s magic was void, he was now an orphan, so he went to the land where orphaned boys went.
A couple of those points could still stand if Bae didn’t necessarily become Peter Pan, but did become one of the Lost Boys. The major sacrifice of my theory would be that it would no longer be the Crocodile’s son who became Hook’s Neverland nemesis, which is a bit of a bummer, because I think that would be fun for them to do.
However, now I’m thinking of this new possible theory, I could get on board with the idea that Barrett was Peter and Bae was just a Lost Boy. When Emma and Hook were on the beanstalk, he seemed to mention the Lost Boys with some sort of fondness, (which I know is one of the arguments people use for Hook being Peter), which could work if Bae was a Lost Boy and he and Hook had actually had a good relationship in Neverland. Much as I think it’d be fun to see Hook and Bae as enemies, I could also like the opposite, if Hook found Milah’s son and they were able to be friends, (which couldn’t have happened if Bae was Peter). The more I think about it, the more I like the potential of Bae having been a Lost Boy who Hook got along with. Imagine Rumple’s reaction if his son comes to town and treats Hook like a long lost friend. Yowza! Or even if Hook and Bae had had a falling out and were no longer friends, it’d still rile Rumple right up that they had ever had a friendly relationship in the past.
If Barrett was Peter, and he and at least one of the Lost Boys (Bae) got stuck in our world, remained friends as they grew up, but always with Peter being the one in charge in the relationship, that could explain why Barrett would come to SB first, while Neal hasn’t come anywhere near town yet. Perhaps it’s a case of the “big brother” coming to suss things out, instead of letting his “little brother” go walking unprepared, straight into a firestorm of angst that is the town with his former lover and his cursed father.
That’s assuming that Barrett and Neal do know each other, which may be completely off base of course, but like I said, I can’t shake the feeling that they’ll be connected.

This is a great theory. If you’re right about this, it’ll be interesting to see how Hook and Barrett (Peter) may interact as grown adults, as opposed to adult-to-child. Now that they’re both grown men, this can either influence things in a positive way, or may pour gas over a hot flame (in a very negative way). I guess we’ll have to wait and see/

lol, yes, it’s very spoilery. 😆
Now I don’t know whether to include actual spoiler bars or just follow the flow since the rest of the thread isn’t in spoiler bars.

Yes, his name does look like Barrie, and he does look more like what I think an adult version of Peter Pan would look like more than MRJ does. Robin Williams, aside, I usually think of Peter Pan, even as an adult, being spry and lightweight.
I’m just not sure about the description that was given about Barrett’s character would fit Peter Pan.
He’s in his 30s, kind and smart, but also has a very dark side and has beliefs and a way of life that he will fight fiercely to defend.
It could I suppose, but it seems like a very ominous description. They could make Peter Pan more darker, but I don’t really see them making him an all out villain which is what I think Barrett will eventually turn into given his character description. Like Lil’ Red, I think he’ll start out as a “good” guy that helps the “good” characters and Rumple and Regina fight Cora and Hook in some way, but they’re also going to lay the groundwork for him to be one of the villains that the “good” guys will have to battle next season. However, I think that he’s going to be the Sandman or a character like that instead of Merlin because of the Netherworld having to do with this season so much, and I feel like that the Netherworld will pop up again this season in an important way.
One thing I can’t seem to shake about his character is that I’m sure that Barrett will have a connection to Neal, who I’m now pretty positive has to be Bae.
Yes, I could see that being possible that Barrett and/or the character of Katrina might be connected to Neal somehow.

Yes, I think it would be weird if Nealfire and Barrett did know each other, but Barrett was Peter Pan and Nealfire was just a Lost Boy because it should be Nealfire because of the back story that they gave Hook.
I could get behind this idea though, and it might not just be that Nealfire doesn’t want to go to Storybrooke, perhaps he tried, but can’t get into Storybrooke because of the Curse, and so Barrett went there to try to help him.
December 16, 2012 at 3:21 pm #165199hellraiser-89ParticipantI think he will be an alien and that it will be revealed in the season finale. Then next season we get science vs magic and Dr Frankenstein reanimates one of the aliens.
Can’t wait for some zombie-alien action!December 16, 2012 at 5:53 pm #165204naomiParticipantI agree, TheGoldenKey. The minute I saw him I thought he looked like a Peter Pan!!
But more importantly, Peter Pan is one of those characters who can travel between non-magical/magical worlds, so there’s a good explanation for why he wasn’t caught by the curse. My personal theory is that he was in our world when the curse hit – and that prevented him from going back to Neverland. And so “the boy who never grew up”…well, grew up. The tragedy basically writes itself. 😆 No wonder he as a dark side.
And of course he wouldn’t be recognized by anyone, maybe not even Hook. (which might be funny.)
And I also hope he is/becomes friends with Neal. There’s a lot of screentime for princesses on this show – we need a Lost Boys troupe to balance it out.

That’s part of my theory about how Bae could have also been Peter Pan and still ended up in our world. 😉 Going back to the first part of your comment though, if Barrett does end up being someone who is in our world, but visits SB, then that’s a nice little nod to how Peter can travel between magical and non-magical worlds, so could be a hint to his identity.
December 17, 2012 at 7:27 am #165237cassandra48ParticipantHey there, I know my theory is really a long shot but I’m really hoping that Neal isn’t Bae because i don’t like the idea if Emma being linked to absolutely everyone. I hope Ethan Embry is Bae, as a nice twist to keep everyone who thought it was Neal on their toes. Making things less predictable.
December 18, 2012 at 2:14 am #165337a chipped cupParticipantI want to say Ethan Embry’s character is either the Wizard of Oz or some other character from another world other than the Enchanted Forest, but his age keeps tripping me up.

Ooooopsies! I’m going to blame it on the wine. Hopefully admin will see and move the thread over. LOL AntBee! A new word “spoilery”! 😆
Now I don’t know if I should go back and edit using the spoiler bars or just follow suite from you all following the flow! 😀

Yes, that was also part of my Bae/Peter Pan/Henry’s Father theory I posted back in September. Here’s the link: https://oncepodcast.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=1462
I’m having a problem with it now though. As I said in my opening post here, I’m still rooting for my theory, however, I can’t ignore clues we’ve been given about Neal’s age and it’s starting to throw me off the whole Neal/Bae/Peter Pan theory.
On Neal’s FBI wanted poster, it states he was born in 1977. That would make him 35 years old, 7 years older than Emma. Now, that could make Neal Peter Pan, as in the actual books he’s believed to be about 7 years old. Thus, if he got caught here when the curse hit, he’d be seven. So, saying he was born in 1977 would be correct.
However, he can’t be both Bae and Peter Pan as that would mean he was 14 when he got caught here. Thus he would be 42 and not 35, I can’t see them making him 14 years older than Emma and he sure doesn’t look like he’s 14 years older than Emma. Besides, why go to all the trouble to show us the poster that gives us a 7 year age difference.
If he is Bae, he did not arrive before the curse hit nor when the curse hit. It would have had been at least 7 years after the curse.
Now, maybe they’ll show us something that explains the age gap of 7 missing years. I don’t know. Maybe if he was Peter Pan, he regressed in age once he hit Neverland. Rumple does have the ability to do that so who’s to say Bae didn’t meet someone else who did as well. Maybe other worlds were not affected by the curse and it was business as usual other than being able to port to the EF or SB. That might account for Bae coming to the real world as Peter Pan, 7 years after the curse hit and staying. Who knows……..sigh………
As I said, I really want Neal to be Bae and I really want Bae to be Peter Pan. But I’m having my doubts about our OUAT trinity as the moment even though I’ve got a PANtastic theory about it all! 😆
The only thing I know for sure is that he is Henry’s father.
