I agree. Emma, Regina, Snow/Charming, and Rumpel are the only characters whose leaving would really cause a new direction for the show. This could all be much ado about nothing though and ABC is just trying to get people to talk about Ouat right now.
If OUAT gets renewed for a final S7 I can see it being a simple 13 episode season. Bobby could come back for 3-4 of those with Emilie or something.
That’s what I am thinking. Spread it over a 6/7 split and have Bobby pop in and out as Past Rumple since he’s always been so integral to the Enchanted Forest machinations.

If they do go the truncated final Season route of only 13 episodes, the may choose to only air it for either Fall or Spring. That was what Lost did for its last few Seasons.

And that would give them time to test out a new replacement–like maybe that show based on Disney theme parks (or something…???) we heard about

Hyperion (the Disney parks pilot) definitely seems like it has the potential to be OUAT’s replacement. I’m sure ABC is considering that possibility. They may want to continue having something Disney related at 8pm on Sundays.
I don’t know if I”d like it, but I could see them doing a flash-forward to Henry as an adult who’s a different actor, and creating a whole new storyline for him that keeps the flashback template of the show in place with completely different characters from a completely different world, perhaps. The current starring members could pop in for episodes when necessary.
Adult henry with Teenage Baby Snowflake going on adventures.

Keeper Of Tamara's Taser , Jafar's Staff, Kitsis’s Glasses , Ariel’s Tail, Dopey's Hat , Peter Pan’s Shadow, Outfit, & Pied Cloak,Red Queen's Castle, White Rabbit's Power To World Hop, Zelena's BroomStick, & ALL MAGIC
I don’t think this show could have a male lead honestly. It would be a completely different show that way.
I could see them aging up Henry for an episode or two but I don’t think his character can carry the show. Apart from being kidnapped and being “the believer/Author” he’s not much of a character. No matter what ideas we seem to come up with the consensus is that it’s time to end this.
Some CS shippers on Tumblr have this really cool theory that much like Gideon is now present in the SL and could be taking the helm of The Dark One. In the finale a portal will open and CS’s daughter will pop out, as the new savior. Going to save her parents.
I think that would be really cool.
We’ve got the Rumbelle baby as The Dark One and CS’s baby as The Savior. The Rumple vs Killian feud continues on to the next generation.
