ModeratorCould Once Upon a Time go the way of Lost?
In the wake of the news that the ABC fairy-tale drama has been renewed for a sixth season, it seems only fair to wonder whether executive producers Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis have an endgame in mind.
From early in its run, Once Upon a Time has drawn comparisons to that other famous ABC series on which both Kitsis and Horowitz also worked. Not only do the island-mystery drama and fairy-tale series draw thematic parallels, but they also share a fair number of actors — Lana Parrilla, Emilie de Ravin, Elizabeth Mitchell, Rebecca Mader, Alan Dale, and Jorge Garcia among them.
Ahead of Lost’s third season finale, ABC announced that the series would conclude with three truncated seasons, allowing executive producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse to set an end date for their critically acclaimed show. With that in mind, are the powers that be at Once Upon a Time aiming to set their own end date?
“It’s a different thing than Lost,” Horowitz tells EW. “There are some similarities in our storytelling — that’s where we came from — but Lost was a much more closed-ended show that needed that kind of ending.”

ModeratorThough, the producers do have some semblance of an ending in their back pocket. “We certainly have endpoints in mind for many of our characters and where we want the story to go and finish up, but we have different ways of getting there,” Horowitz says. “We’re not, at this point, setting a specific end date for the show. But what we are doing is taking the luxury of knowing we have another season to be able to continue our long-term planning.”
Therefore, the OUAT bosses are not looking at season 6 as the end. “No,” Kitsis says. “We could change our minds in a few months, but right now we’re just trying to get out of [season] 5. We have plans for season 6. Listen, there’s a time and a place where, at a certain point, characters either need to find their happiness or not, and we are aware of that. We’re just not ready to answer that question yet.”
So there’s that. For now, at least.

Okay, but they also don’t decide the end date for their show. Not really. If ABC says S6 is it, then S6 is it, whether A and E have stories in mind or not. I appreciate that they are taking it one season at a time, but its not really up to them. And they’re smart lads; they know all this.

ParticipantHow delusional are these people? I mean I think we all agree that this back half has been pleasantly surprising in comparison to the front half, but still. The ratings are abysmal. Do they really think ABC is going to allow them to continue to a season 7? This disturbs me because it seems they aren’t seeing the writing on the wall and I’m afraid ABC is going to tell them it’s over, and they won’t have enough time to properly plan the ending. What they should be doing, is planning season 6 to be their ending so they do it right. Uhhh…

Keymaster@DanielJLewis and I were just talking about this and here are some numbers/thoughts.
They need to stop comparing themselves to LOST. They aren’t the same, not culturally and not number wise. LOST, in its final season was pulling numbers in the demo that we pulled in our FIRST season and haven’t pulled since (with exception of the beginning Frozen arc–but that went south quickly, before the arc’s end).
Latest episode of OUAT drew 3.4 mil live eyeballs and a 1.1 in the demo.
LOST episode 5×16 drew well over 9 million and had somewhere in the 3’s for their demo.
LOST was a beast in terms of ratings and OUAT isn’t going to achieve that, from where we are right now. It’s time to seriously think about how to end the story, make the final arc(s) in S6 the best they can by really focusing on knowing it’s the end.

A better comparison would be Heroes. Like OUAT, Heroes started out very strong, but its ratings and popularity took a considerable decline til it was cancelled at the end of its fourth Season.

Yeah, good comparison. The writing on Heroes also became wildly unfocused to the point that while I was a huge fan, I struggle really hard to explain the plot of S4.

ParticipantThey are also not taking in consideration the actors, there the rumour that Bobby said only one more season then he is out, Jmo also already hinted that season 6 would be the last in her opinion, even tho she later came to say that was only her opinion and that maybe ABc could have other opinion.

If by some miracle ABC gives OUAT a season 7….
If JMo & Bobby are both leaving after season 6, I have the oddest feeling they’ll just find a way to hype Rumple to be a big bad all over again and have Emma sacrifice her life to kill him….then Adult Baby Snowflake would be the new Savior of Storybrooke which will once again be placed under a Dark Curse that will freeze time for twenty years, but once again Snowing have to give a child up so they can be the savior. They’ll probably entrust the baby to Belle who will raise Baby Snowflake and her own child outside of Storybrooke till the time comes for them to break the curse. Good thing we don’t have to worry about this plot because I think we all pretty much know Season 6 will nine times out of ten be the last.

ParticipantReally? They really need to wrap this show up if you ask me. The ratings don’t look good, and they need to be prepared in case next season is the last.
