The Author has some tragic back story where some girl broke his heart and now, he likes to mess up everyone’s happy endings for kicks and just because he can.

ding ding ding. We have a winner.
This is a theory I saw elsewhere in relation to the Author that I might as well share in this thread. Belle’s mother, Colette, was the Author before the Peddler. A few articles mentioned way back when that there were potential plans for France O’Connor to return later this Season. Colette was also so determined to protect those books. It would certainly make thematic sense that Colette, a bookworm like Belle, would hold the job as the Author.
What if the Author was in love with Belle’s mom but she chose Maurice instead?

That sounds like the emperor alien out of American Dad that Roger cheated on so he wanted the rest of his people to believe there was no such thing as true love.
All magic comes with a price!
Keeper of Felix“…Adam Horowitz says, noting that the Dark Curse predates this Author—so he wasn’t involved with how that went down.” Does this confuse anyone else?

This could explain why Rump wanted Belle as his maid, maybe. Perhaps he figured she would be the new author. If she is the new author, he could manipulate her into writing the story his way because she made a deal with him to be his slave forever. Or whatever it was.
Maybe the Author is Oswald, The Lucky Rabbit. I was already thinking that awhile back as a joke but I was rewatching the episode earlier today (yesterday?) and when Emma chases after the author, she ends up in the middle of the street outside of the white rabbit bar whose name I forgot. So I was like its a sign! (it was literally a sign of the white rabbit bar infront of Emma :P)

I would be severely ticked off if they did that to Rumbelle. What they’ve done to them so far is bad enough…

Agreed…that’d be the icing on the cake of Rumbelle Doom.
