After the Darkness consumed her in the Once Upon a Time finale, Emma is going to have a little help in becoming the new Dark One, a.k.a. the Dark Swan.
EW has an exclusive first look photo from the upcoming season premiere, in which Rumplestiltskin (Robert Carlyle) appears to offer Emma (Jennifer Morrison) a hand in controlling her new powers. “If you’re going to be the Dark One, gotta learn from the best,” executive producers Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis coyly tease.

So is “Rumple” like a manifestation of the Darkness teaching and tempting Emma to succumb? That’s the only thing I can think of.

That, or Emma is going crazy. I imagine dealing with the darkness inside her takes a mental strain. Losing her grip on reality probably makes her lean a little more dark sided. But I do like your idea better, RG.
Also, Rumple went into a coma after the Apprentice removed the darkness from him. What Emma is seeing could be a piece of Rumple that is now forever intertwined with the darkness of the dagger. Only Emma can see him. Maybe once she frees herself from the dagger, this piece of Rumple will be free to, and then the real Rumple will wake up from his coma.

Probably. This is from the premiere where Emma apparently isn’t the Dark One quite yet, so that would make sense.

But…. hmmmmmmm. I can understand if Emma is seeing an apparition of Rump’ because she is, like, going crazy the darkness is tempting her to do bad things. But not teaching her to do bad things.
Because wouldn’t that mean Zoso appeared to Rump when he was the dark one to teach him?

I can definitely see Adam and Eddy doing a similar route with Rumple and Emma.

I’m going to assume that this Rumple is a vision of sorts that only Emma interacts with. I think this could be their way of giving Rumple plenty of screentime, while he is still in a coma. Aside from flashbacks, that is. For plot reasons, they likely don’t want Rumple waking up from his coma this early on, so we get this version of Rumple in the meantime. It’s like with Shadow Belle in Season 3A. They decided to keep Belle in Storybrooke in Season 3A to 1) enact the protection spell, 2) have one of the regulars in Storybrooke, 3) to help Ariel out. So to give Belle more screentime, they created the whole Shadow Belle plotline.

Agreed. But thus far we haven’t seen Dark One! Rumple on set, at least while filming outdoors. So I guess Bobby is indoors quite a bit (when he’s not out promoting his new film)
