Fans asked, Once Upon a Time answered: Sean Maguire is returning to the ABC fairy tale drama in season 6, EW has learned exclusively.
Though Robin Hood met a grim fate at the close of season 5, Maguire will appear in multiple episodes this season. However, the character is not coming back from the dead. The powers that be are keeping how he’s returning — whether it’s via flashback or some other means — under wraps.
“We’re thrilled to have Sean back for this story arc and are excited for the audience to see what we have planned, which in the wake of his character’s heartbreaking demise, is something we hope is unexpected and surprising,” executive producers Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis tell EW.

I’m skeptical about this return for some reason…this could be a trap that will end in either further disappointment or give at least some form of proper closure to Robin Hood’s fans.

September 27, 2016 at 3:37 pm #327818MattParticipantIt would have been nice for them to actually make this a surprise! I guess they are just trying to pull back any Robin fans that have stopped watching… either that, or Sean is about to start shooting external stuff and so we would have found out that way.

It sounds like that is the point, but salt in Regina’s wounds rather than the fans.

September 27, 2016 at 8:09 pm #327829RumplesGirlKeymasterKeep in mind: he’s not coming back to life but still a multi story arc. So I find this…suspect to say the least.
As for my reaction to this: I’m….confused and frankly a little irritated. Like, they just NOW came up with an interesting idea for Robin? I guess I shouldn’t be surprised but it feels like they are either 1) placating the fandom in the same manner they do with SwanFire or 2) they got a cool idea a week after S5B ended and were like “oh well. Our world allows with this with its inconsistent rules. So why not! #Magic!”

He seemed really bitter in his exit interviews. In fact, he outright stated that he wouldn’t want to go back if offered if I recall correctly.

I said the same thing when I saw this news and yes, Sean did say that he generally doesn’t like to come back to a project that’s he left.

If they’re really not resurrecting him, then just what are they doing with him for multiple episodes? Sean said that he wasn’t interested in returning when asked back in May, so just how did Adam and Eddy convince him to return? Multiple episodes implies something other than flashbacks or a vision/dream sequence, too.
