Giles Matthey will return during the seventh season of Once Upon a Time, EW has learned exclusively.
The actor, who joined the show in season 6 as the son of Belle (Emilie de Ravin) and Rumple (Robert Carlyle), was thought to be a villain, coerced by the Black Fairy (Jaime Murray) to take out Emma (Jennifer Morrison). But the character was ultimately redeemed and reverted back to his baby self by season’s end.

*stares blankly at screen*
Okay then…
1) What was the point of de-aging him in the first place?
2) Is Matthey playing Gideon as a sixteen year old? Maybe a twenty year old, at most? Because they haven’t jumped forward in time 28 years!! Goodness, that would make Henry 46!
3) Why not just get a 10 yr old to play Young!Gideon? (Heck, get the same actor who played Young!Gideon)

August 1, 2017 at 2:01 pm #340802MatthewPaulModeratorLet’s see
– Assuming Henry was around 13 or 14 when Season 6 ended.
– Henry goes off on his own after High School, so he would be around 18 during the opening scene of Season 7, so 4-5 years later.
– Henry meets Cinderella, which likely happens another 5 years or so later.
– Lucy seems like she’s around 10, or at least not much younger. Maybe she also wasn’t born until a year or so after her parents met.So I think a 20 year timejump is roughly where we’re headed. Giles could realistically play a 20 year old Gideon, considering your appearance typically doesn’t change that much from 20 to 28. Not to mention, we previously had Jennifer Morrison and Lana Parrilla play 18 year old versions of their respective characters in the past, when they themselves were already in their 30s at the time. Now I wonder if this means we’ll also meet adult versions of Neal and Robin?

I do hope hope they give some explanation (however weak) for Belle and Hook (and whoever else) not aging at all in twenty years. I mean is Rumple zapping Belle with dark magic once in awhile to keep her young? Is Emma slipping youth potions into Hook’s rum because she didn’t like the older wish realm version of Hook?

Since it must be 20 years (I agree, Giles could easily play 20 yr old Gideon) then I’d say we will meet baby Robyn at the least (they tend to forget about baby Snowflake…)

Yeah, that. Because the curse prevents aging but it was obviously cast a year ago or so.

August 1, 2017 at 6:35 pm #340863RainbowParticipantOh so is even worst than i thought, so 2033 is very similar to 2017, and only hnery aged, well the kids may have aged, but the adults in SB remained the same.

August 1, 2017 at 10:28 pm #340869kranenParticipantSo if we’re seeing an older Gideon again, I’m assuming that means his scenes are set in present day. Does that mean that we’re going to be seeing Belle in present day again too?
This season is confusing.

Yes. I know. I wish had been more specific. I was referring to him having a ten year old daughter and the thought came out muddled.

And he didn't become a dad until he was over 18. The rest is #nospoilers.
