And that’s a Hook episode, yes?
I believe “Swan Song” is, as that’s supposed to be the episode with Hook’s father. Though obviously Hook seems to be pretty involved in “Broken Heart”, too. So my guess is “Broken Heart”‘s flashback might be more Dark Swan stuff from Camelot that happens to involve Hook, while “Swan Song” is the Papa Jones flashback.

ARG. See, I got confused with the whole 10/11/12 mishmash. Bah.

Rumplestiltskin: ( to Guinevere ) Good girl! But be careful. Love is a weapon, dearie. The most dangerous weapon of all, which means the pain you should worry about isn’t the kind inflicted by a broken sword, but the kind that comes, from a broken heart.
Also, there was something that Arthur said at the end of 5×4 that caught my attention:
Guinevere: I love him [Arthur].
Lancelot: No. It’s not real. He must have used the sands of Avalon on you. Guinevere, we can break this spell.
Guinevere: Not interested. Take this traitor to the dungeon where he belongs. ( A couple of guards come forward and arrest Lancelot and he watches in sadness as Guinevere kisses Arthur, as he is escorted out of the building. )
Arthur: ( Turns to face Mary Margaret and David ) You’re not the only couple with hearts that beat as one .So, interesting that Arthur/Gwen are being compared to Snow/Charming. Maybe things aren’t quite what they appear?

Yes but Arthur says the bit about hearts beating as one after he magic sand roofied her, so that part is clearly a lie on Arthur’s part. We know their hearts don’t really beat as one metaphorically since Gwen was seconds from leaving. If anything, the writers might go for Gwen and Lance’s heart really beating as one.

I know it’s a false parallel, because Arthur is one shady dude. I was wondering if the sands of Avalon could come into play again. Could a person be made to appear alive if his or heart were used for the curse? I’m probably overthinking this.

Most likely.

Oooh. You might not be. I mean, I never thought I’d see magic roofie sand on OUAT but ‘lo and behold….
I also didn’t think we’d ever see Mario’s Magic Mushroom ever again after Siege Perilous, but it keeps cropping back up. So the magic roofie sand might appear again, I’m just not sure what restrictions–or limits–are on this particular mcguffin.

So, that would mean his hook is still capable of removing a heart. While it could just be a red herring, it could be Checkov’s hook…

Yup. Nimue “takes over” Emma’s body (probably with Emma’s permission becuase Emma has a secret plan) and kills Merlin

Yes, that’s what I’m leaning towards as well. Especially since this new DC appears to produce trees. Here’s what I’m curious about though. Rumple set a precedent for outsourcing the DC curse in S1 — Regina had to pay the price with her father’s heart, but conversely, she was the one holding the reigns of how the curse affected everyone in SB (so Rumple had to negotiate a clause for himself).
If Nimue (and not, technically, Emma) is the one who casts this DC, how much control does Emma have over it? Was she the one who decided on the length of the memory wipe, for example? Also, isn’t the memory wipe a separate spell from the DC, as suggested by Zelena’s whole thing in S3? And what’s in it for Nimue anyway?
