For me, the whole thing is…what is so important about ‘shipping’ anyway?
I mean, I thought that kind of thing tended to lean towards the daytime soap operas (which I don’t watch).
Those types of shows are all about ‘what dead character is gonna show up as their ‘twin’ next week’ – and ‘who’s, um, dating who’.There is so much more to this show.
So much intricate thought and planning…the classic literature/film, mythology, legend, iconic characters from so many genres.99.99% of Hook fans actually do have intelligent thoughts/insights/theories about Hook. I don’t agree with all of them, but, even the one’s I don’t agree with, I find them to be clever and well thought out.
What annoys me are the handful – HANDFUL – of Hook/CaptainSwan fans that repeadtedly post nothing but how ‘hot’ Hook is or how he should be with Emma or that poor Colin is dying….again.
O – kay! We get it!Does it have to be posted everywhere? In every thread? Whether that thread has little or nothing to do with Hook or not?
It gets harder and harder to avoid and, obviously, some ppl are growing tired of it.
Seems like2/3 of the threads are devoted to Hook in some way or another….this isn’t the Captain Hook Show.Is the title of this thread offensive? Depends on who ya ask.
Some thought it was meant jokingly.
I happen to find almost all of Hook’s lines on the show offensive….so….Anyway, could I have just avoided this thread altogether? Absolutely!
But, even if I tried to ignore it if someone was flicking me, repeatedly, in my arm, I would eventually slap their hand away[adrotate group="5"]February 13, 2013 at 5:59 am #172901the jolly rogerParticipantHi, I’ve been reading this thread and since everyone is giving their opinion I thought I’d put my two cents in.
If I was the actor who plays Hook, I would be thrilled knowing that people love my acting, and feel the need to talk about my character 24/7. That would mean that i’m doing my job in entertaing people and drawing in audiences’ attention.
Everyone is different so not everyone will enjoy Hooks’ character, and there are people who are captivated by the character and love to talk about him. I personally don’t see anything wrong with people wanting to comment about him constantly. It doesn’t hurt anyone, if it gets annoying, then ignore it. If Hook fans have fun talking about him, then let them have their fun – you don’t have to acknowldege it if it annoys you.
This is a discussion site, it’s what to be expected. So just have fun and let others have their fun 🙂February 13, 2013 at 7:18 am #172909PheeParticipant@playarita wrote:

People’s views of Onciverse Hook can be quite polarising. You either think he’s completely shallow, or incredibly deep. I’m the latter, but can see how others could take him at face value and be turned off. It’s not really that different of a situation to Rumple. People either think he’s the ultimate evil, or the ultimate candidate for redemption.
For me what is really getting to me is that I have no problem with posters like yourself because you come across as extremely level-headed and approach characters, and situations within the show that are incredibly thought-provoking and deep.
Thank you. 🙂 Think it’s the Pisces in me. We get all OCD when it comes to considering all angles, which makes us notoriously indecisive, but also notoriously empathetic to varying points of view…which doesn’t help the indecisiveness. 😛
February 13, 2013 at 9:00 am #172915spinninggoldParticipantOk, I finally saw Hook…. He’s hillarious! And I get it! It’s the Irish charm that Colin is laying on THICK. He is the typical Irish rogue, he even has the naughty boy smile to match. And yes, that makes him sexy. (Go to Ireland girls, the country is full of those types, really) It might also explain why some of you consider him shallow. The top layer, which is a thick one, is an enormous flirt.
But there is something brewing underneath there, Hook is definately running his own agenda, and what he wants we are definately still in the dark about. He’s a manipulator, and perhaps a worse one than Rumpel.
Rumpelstiltskin is up front. Everybody in the realm knows he is a bad guy and that his deals have a way of turning out nasty. That never stops them from making a deal with though, their own greed or desperation sets them up. Desperate souls turn to the dark one. But, he said it himself, he only broke one deal in his life…. and he is fixing that one next week: Hi Bae.
Hook is a classic double crosser. He will charm you, before sticking a knife in your back. He uses this charm to fool everyone. He does not have power like Rumpel, but he knows how to butter up those who do, like Cora & Regina. He will promise you the world, but you will end up with nothing. That’s his role in OUaT, and I don’t see him redeeming so fast… Only when it suits his motive, and even then he can change at any second. (Actually I hope the writers don’t give in to the shippers and let him redeem, it would kill the role he plays)
He is a charmer, ladies, but not all that glitters is gold. It’s gonna be a bumpy ride!BTW It’s not just Hook and Rumpel, it’s the actors themselves too. Where Robert Carlyle is the master of subtlety, telling a whole story in a single guesture, Colin O’Donogue is pulling out all the stops, and I don’t think he could be more over the top if he tried. I know a few Irish charmers, and I think he is taking the mick out of them. And having great fun doing so. That’s why he is so much fun to watch.
February 13, 2013 at 9:50 am #172920GrimmsisterParticipantIt’s not Eww! to be a shipper regardless. Hell I ship Jaime and Cersei Lannister and they are brother and sister 😕 though perhabs in real life I would be more hesitant.
On this show I most passionately ship Grumpy and Nova, but I’m afraid that ship has sailed already..

Yeah, what happened to Grumpy and Nova? I thought they were true love, and I haven’t even seen Nova since season 1. I liked them together.
February 13, 2013 at 9:44 pm #173085PriceofMagicParticipantI would like Emma to end up with someone who isn’t Neal or Hook.
All magic comes with a price!

I’m a Sag so I think I like to poke people with my “arrow” to bug them even though I do take lengths to not take it too far. xD
February 14, 2013 at 8:45 am #173211surayyaParticipantWow, just got through reading the whole thread……… 😆 😆 😆
I think some people like using big wooden spoons for stirring & others are uber passionate about their fav’s (for whatever reason). If there is one thing this show does, it is NEVER have a bad guy who is simply ‘pure’ evil- they always have a reason for being who & what we see them as.
Regina was the big bad, then we found out her true loves heart was ripped out in front of her by her mother, because a 10yr old motherless child couldn’t keep a secret from said mother + Rumple manipulated her- it doesn’t excuse all the lives she’s destroyed, taken & murdered in getting her revenge, but she is still redeemable.
Rumple was the biggest baddy of all, until… we find out he only became the darkone out of fear of loosing his son, then choosing power & cowardice over his son & that all his actions from then on, are to get back to his son. Again it doesn’t excuse the hundreds of lives he’s destroyed, murdered & taken in his obsession to get back to his son & we all know he is redeemable.
Hook; all we know so far is he has shot Belle in the shoulder, ripped out a heart & given it back again & done what he’s had to, by way of lying, flirting, cheating, charming, stealing, flirting, double crossing & oh, flirting- so being a pretty typical pirate, all in the name of getting revenge on the man who ripped his wife’s heart out in-front of him.
Hook to has been honest about who & what he is- a pirate, so it goes without saying (I assume), that you watch your back 😉
Personally I like him more because he has a moral code (makes him more complex IMO)- it might be hard to follow sometimes but it is there, unlike Regina & Rumple, who have killed their loved ones outright to get what they wanted. -
