October 26, 2014 at 9:05 pm #287543nonnieParticipantWOW …. I knew DQ was Emma’s foster mom but I thought when she was little not as a teen.
.
MY THEORY : I am thinking DQ was happiest when she was the foster mom… she is now trying to recreate that…
.October 26, 2014 at 9:16 pm #287549RumplesGirlKeymasterThis episode was pretty decent! I think it suffered from a slow start but there was some good juicy stuff in the last 20 mins. I think it’s my second favorite of the season (giving it a 7.5 out of 10 right now)
LIKED
–Elizabeth Mitchell. BOW DOWN. She’s killing it. She’s simply wonderful as the Snow Queen. Spot on performance of what it means to be icy and chilly.
–Will Scarlet. I do love him. I just wish he had more to do.
–I can barely see my computer screen for all the tears, but pulling the SF pic out of the box…I lost it. I don’t even know how I really feel about it yet, but for the moment it’s going on liked.
–The magic battle was really good. Finally we get something that felt a bit more epic that just one shot of light and POOF. Problem solved.
–The staircase CGI was VERY good. Like very “oooooooh. Pretty!!”
–The big reveal at the end. I knew it was coming but still…very cool
MIXED LIKED AND DISLIKED
–Emma and Lily. While it was nice to see Young! Emma, it was also a bit redundant. I get it. Emma has walls and issues and can’t trust people because they’ve hurt her. I really didn’t need this flashback to tell me more of that.
–Snow’s adventure. It was nice to see Snow do something, but at the same time she came off as a bit of a big goof ball and not the incredibly powerful bandit I used to know.
DISLIKED
–Oh dear. Babysitter Belle got no lines. New Ruby, much?
–Regina, Regina, Regina. WOW. I have a lot of issues with some of the things she said tonight. She was way harsh. I get that she’s in pain but a life was saved. She needs to remember that.
–The Sparkly Ice Viking. Ooof. Points deducted for bad CGI there.
ETA: Upon further reflection, this is my favorite episode of the season and I’m giving it an 8.5.

Least favorite was the Will scene.

Disliked (short version): Belle not getting a single line in the entire episode. Yes, yes, I know next week’s her centric, but she’s a REGULAR and she’s being treated as background noise! This is what leads to regulars not even being on the show anymore! DISLIKE DISLIKE DISLIKE!
More likes:
–The ice bridge actually made me catch my breath from the pretty.
–Hook seeing the pic of Neal and Emma together and actually registering some emotion about it. Seeing that pic made me pretty emotional, too, Hook dearie.
–Snow writing a whole beautiful story about what Charming didn’t do. It made me laugh and I love how Will just goes along with it perfectly. I do enjoy having Will on the show; I just wish they’d get to how he matters.
Dislikes:
–The relationship with Lily was awesome Emma backstory and we’ve had far too little of that, and the actors were great–young Emma is pretty much perfect. But I felt like it wasn’t the most relevant story we could have gotten to pair with the current present arc (I could be wrong, because I have no clue at all where they’re taking us right now), and there is just so much more I want to see (you know, like Belle? More of her would be nice. Any of her would be nice). If Lily was just a one-off character and we don’t see her again in whatever’s up with DQ, it will feel super irrelevant…if she’s still involved later, then I’ll take it back.
–Not only hardly any Belle, but no Henry and this also seemed to be RC’s usual week off. *sigh* I love the other characters, too, and Elsa was awesome, but…I do have my faves. And they didn’t get to play.

I disliked the Regina scenes. She’s back to pissing me off again.

– Elizabeth Mitchell….didn’t think I’d be saying that. I kind of tuned out of Lost by the time they introduced her so I don’t remember much, and I really disliked her character in Revolution, so when I heard she’d been cast as the Big Bad, I was less than thrilled. But she is really nailing the SQ, I love how she’s making the SQ come off as very distant but then shows moments of warmth break through. It makes her just….creepy on a whole different level than Pan or Zelena creepy.
– Will Scarlet. I didn’t watch OUATWL so I had no idea what to expect, but I’m loving him. It seems, since he was one of the leads in the sister show that he should be more than comic relief – which, to me is what he feels like right now – but I think the show needs light, funny moments to break up the serious storyline, and he’s great fun.
– Emma pushing Regina, and showing her that she’s not going anywhere. I like that Emma recognizes and is giving Regina one of the things Emma has needed most – people in her life that refuse to give up on her. Now that she’s found that, and realizes how important it is, she’s able to be that person for Regina. I like the development of their relationship – they may never be besties, Regina’s right, but they will always be connected, at the very least through Henry. But their son aside, they are two people that on the surface would have nothing in common, but are more similar than they realized. I like that they’re showing one of the things that they really share is that feeling that they have/had no one, and how they can overcome their past and that feeling of abandonment.
Dislikes –
– Regina. I cannot stand her storyline this season. I guess the one thing I never really connected with Regina about is how she reacts when loving her romantic partner (I know, her going all evil was about much more than losing Daniel, but it was a big part of it, of course). I mean, I get it, it stinks, but really? They’ve got her acting like some heartsick kid – she really can barely function because she lost Robin? Really? I didn’t have a problem with OQ getting together so quickly last season, but for her to be this broken this fast definitely feels unrealistic to me. And WHAT was going on with that outfit???
Meh –
– Emma backstory. Yeah, it wasn’t much we didn’t know, and if they don’t come back to that story line, I agree, it’ll seem like it was time wasted…but then, we’ve learned so much about Emma’s backstory by hearing Emma tell it over the last 3 years, I don’t know if there’s much that will shock us when they do show it. But the girl that’s playing young Emma is fantastic, agreed, they really cast the younger counterparts of the characters well. I think I kept waiting for….something more to happen with Lily. Some kind of betrayal, other than ‘yeah I lied because I feel like I don’t belong (what teenager doesn’t?)’.

Heard on another podcast :EMILY DE RAVEN has been filming several other projects over the summer and was not available while ONCE has been shooting. I am guessing she shows up for shots in several episodes but since she had so little time they did not give her a lot of lines to memorize and recite. I also heard this film had been booked for a while and it was a commitment she could not get out of.
