I also don’t understand how tenticles make her more powerful than her father but okay.
It might be a dirty joke. They already set the precedent for tentacle metaphor jokes a few episodes back.

Five powerful beings in that one cabin, and not one of them thought to use a cloaking spell, a protection spell or put some nasty dogs outside?
We could have had Emma use her magic to find and enter the cabin in this case…what a wasted opportunity.

March 23, 2015 at 6:44 am #299537PheeParticipantIf I never hear the word “author” again in life after this season of OUAT is done, it’ll be too bloody soon. WE GET IT THE AUTHOR IS A THING YOU DON’T HAVE TO MENTION THEM EVERY FIVE FREAKING SECONDS.
Ahem…
–The Emma and August scene. FINALLY. I forgot that before I disliked him, I really like August. I hope they get to have A CONVERSATION.
It was SO GREAT to have him back! And to see him interacting with Emma and Henry! That little moment where Emma used magic and August was all, “Well lookit you now,” was great, given their history. I really wish they’d keep him around as a friend for them both, but I know they won’t. *sigh*
–The JR returning. I hate that Hook has his ship back because once again, he sacrifices nothing and gets everything.
If they want me to buy that he’s had a redemption arc, (which I guess they do because Emma’s constantly saying, “you’re not that person any more”), could they please show him having to make some sacrifice and struggle, like they have with the likes of Regina? Maybe they think they HAVE been showing that, but all I’ve seen is Hook just hanging out with the heroes and having what he wants fall into his lap because apparently he’s a good guy now?
Colin has the acting chops to pull off a deep and meaningful, angst filled redemption arc, but most of what they give him these days is fluff. The potential of both the actor and the character are totally going to waste IMO.
I appreciated seeing Ariel slap him for having lied to her, but I hate that Emma’s never gonna find out what he did.
While Ariel’s use as a plot device was incredibly disappointing, the fact that the only time we saw her it was about her saving Hook from drowning, it made my Hookriel shipper heart momentarily flutter. Then I just got sad because of wasted potential. *sigh*
–A lot of character retconning, IMO. Or maybe I should say a lot of characters saying stuff that didn’t fit with where they were in their past arcs. Like Hook saying that he would have kept anything of Milah’s thus his understanding of Ursula and her voice. Um. Baelfire, anyone? The kid that you sent away when you knew he was Milah’s child?
Unless Ursula ages as some rate that’s totally removed from normal space and time, these flashbacks had to have come AFTER Hook had betrayed Bae to Pan, right? So for Hook to say, “If I had something left of my love -“, after he’d sold out his lover’s son, is pretty rich.
Perhaps it could be argued that regret over what he did to Bae is why he was attempting to not screw over another kid as well, but if that’s what they wanted me to think then they should have given him a slightly different line, something like, “I know what it is to have something left of someone you love, and then lose it.” So just judging on what they actually gave us in the ep, it annoyed me greatly that he said that, because it felt like another case of them ignoring that Nealfire existed and had relationships that mattered.
Anyway, I did appreciate the consistency of having Hook eventually do the bad thing and screw over a kid because VENGEANCE.
– This is more in regards to the media than the episode itself, but I feel they overhyped what Hook did to Ursula. I was expecting a death involved, or something.
In the interviews they were all, “What’s worse than having your heart broken? Having your SOUL CRUSHED.” While what he did is totally horrible, I dunno that I’d classify it as, “soul crushing”.
-Mention of the dragon in Hong Kong
On the one hand, I liked that they mentioned the Dragon and Hong Kong. On the other hand, what August said didn’t exactly fit with what we saw of their interactions, so it just smacks of something they made up way after the fact and are trying to cram it into the history they’ve already established whether it makes sense or not.
Also, am I missing something or is it perplexing how August managed to connect the dots and figure out all of a sudden that the Author is trapped in the book? Like, yay for story progression, but I didn’t really get how his revelation came to him?
There seemed to be some OOMF in Bobby’s performance for the first time in a while when he was holding August to the fire. I still don’t like how they’re making Rumple all BIG BAD again though.
The line where he said it wouldn’t be the first time August had lied to him was delivered with just the right amount of tension. It’s…perplexing, and kind of infuriating me, because they seem to put multiple things in to suggest that the existence of Nealfire hasn’t been forgotten, but they’re VAGUE things, and it may just be because I’m watching it with a biased eye as someone who adores Neal, and so those references to the character aren’t things that most viewers would even pick up on. But God forbid they blatantly reference him, blatantly show someone remembering him and having the memory of him actually matter and have the loss of him affect someone.
/rantTo end this post on a positive, I liked the atmosphere they created with the scene of Ursula singing and all the sailors’ reactions. They actually made me believe that it was a dark night and a haunting voice was leading men to their doom, which is an iconic sort of scenario when it comes to mermaids and pirates, and they really sold it well.

Yeah, I didn’t really get this either.

March 23, 2015 at 7:34 am #299542RumplesGirlKeymasterCONGRATULATIONS TO @RumplesGirl. It was indeed the EQ that Regina saw in her dream.
Shoulda made it a cookie bet
3) Ursula having tentacles made her more powerful than him.
Yeah that doesnt make any sense

They definitely were after 222 because Hook says he’s been searching for his revenge for a century at this point
(wait. How is Ursula still alive at this point then?)

I think it didn’t make sense because August was lying about it, trying to distract the QoD

I’d considered that. But we never got an alternate story as to how he really got all that stuff, so I figure we’re just supposed to assume it was meant to be the truth. And if he was lying about where he got it from, why make a specific reference to a character the audience will make a connection to, if he could have just said any random old thing?
March 23, 2015 at 8:07 am #299548KebParticipantIf it’s a century after Milah’s death (give or take) then it’s around 1959-1962 that Hook meets young Ursula. If Ursula was affected by the first curse in some fashion, then you can knock 28 years off her expected age. And who knows how long mermaids live…

Well I also think it was, in part, an attempt to silence some criticism that the writers never revisit old plot lines. Daniel and Jeremy said last night in podcast that this might be the first OUAT episode to ever reference every single arc in one episode. The Dragon was part of the Home Office plot (I guess, in a roundabout way).
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"March 23, 2015 at 8:43 am #299553SlurpeezParticipantThings I didn’t mind so much:
– Regina channeling Snow White
– Ursula calling a spade a spade when it comes to Hook
– Ursula being “the little mermaid”
– Cruella’s snark
– Emma and August’s reunion
– The revelation about the Author being in the book
– Kick-butt Snow White. More please!Things I could’ve done without:
– Rumple torturing August
– Hook getting his ship back; looks like he doesn’t have to sacrifice anything, ever. Why does he get to have his cake and eat it too?
– Ariel, since she was completely under-utilized and didn’t even interact with Ursula in the present day! That was such a missed opportunity.Things I wish had been included:
– A bigger reaction from Belle, followed by her doing something about it. She just realized Rumple tricked her, again. Her reaction was not in keeping with such a huge betrayal.
– A longer talk between Emma and August
– A scene when August actually discusses the book with Henry, and doesn’t just lay on the sofa while Henry leafs through it"That’s how you know you’ve really got a home. When you leave it, there’s this feeling that you can’t shake. You just miss it." Neal Cassidy
