I’m predicting we WILL see Belle going after Rumple in the next ep or two, in much the same fashion as she tried to go after the Snow Queen on her own, and the Yaoguai on her own, and the Jolly Roger on her own…yeah, she has a history of trying to handle things by herself. She’s going to try to get to Rumple first, to stop him before he puts anyone else in danger.

March 23, 2015 at 10:08 am #299565PheeParticipantAlso, am I missing something or is it perplexing how August managed to connect the dots and figure out all of a sudden that the Author is trapped in the book? Like, yay for story progression, but I didn’t really get how his revelation came to him?
Yeah, I didn’t really get this either.
Was just scrolling through tumblr and saw someone’s post that cleared it up for me. He knew all along about the door picture being the actual Door and that it was to get into the Book where the Author is, but he was able to truthfully answer that he didn’t know where the Door was because he didn’t know where the page was at that point in time. So, basically, semantics allowed him to be sneaky, (and it totally went over my head).
March 23, 2015 at 10:39 am #299576SlurpeezParticipantI realized this as I was typing a reply about the Author being trapped behind the door.
Potential plot hole: Why doesn’t Henry remember the picture of the Author’s door being in his book? August said he’d removed the page from Henry’s book, which sequentially, would’ve been after Henry had already read the book cover to cover at least a dozen times. Unless August was lying again about where he got the illustration of the door, it stands to reason that Henry should’ve seen that image before.

My question is, if the author is trapped in the book behind a door, why is it showing it as a door in Jefferson’s hat instead of as just a random door on a random page?

Keeper of FelixMarch 23, 2015 at 2:48 pm #299603PriceofMagicParticipantThis is was a fairly reasonable episode for me in which there wasn’t anything that really stood out as I liked that or I didn’t like that. This episode was consistent throughout. With that said:
Liked:
Ursula’s backstory and her reunion with her father- It’s so nice that they didn’t kill off Ursula and let her get her happy ending. Unfortunately another POC falls by the wayside as is the habit with Once.
Will’s “small ship” jibe- I enjoyed it because it was aimed at Hook which suggests that the character isn’t on a pedestal where everyone thinks he’s perfect just because he’s Hook. Also I used a “ship” joke in the caption thread ages ago so for me it was a “ha, I did it first!” moment.
August- I enjoyed seeing August back and hope him and Emma do get to sit down and have a good talk especially if Nealfire is discussed.
Rumple torturing August- It sounds bad but I liked Rumple’s efficiency in getting an answer out of August. It wasn’t prolonged.
Continuity is addressed- For example, Ursula not being the Ursula we saw in season 3. Also I was right about Ursula being named after her.
Mixed:
Ariel- It seemed like a waste of a character when they could’ve had Hook rescued some other way. It was nice to see Ariel but still, unless they have her interact with Belle next episode. Also, it rehashes the Ariel and Eric separated plot from 3B.
Disliked:
Present day Hook seeking revenge on Rumple- My issue with it is that the reason behind Hook’s original revenge was Milah. Now that Hook’s moved on, his reason for revenge seems less sincere and more petty. It’s less “the dark one killed the woman I love” and more “the dark one got one over on me, I can’t let him get away with it”. Hook needs to, in Elsa’s words, let it go.
Past Hook not being as villainous as he was previously established- You’d think the writers would want to show how bad Hook used to be in order to emphasise how much he has changed for the better but apparently not. This hesitance makes Hook’s line “I used to be a villain” seem somewhat shallow. Timeline wise, this flashback takes place long before the season 2 flashback where Hook smacks Belle unconscious. What changed to make Hook go from not taking Ursula’s voice (at least initially) even though he was offered a chance at revenge, to smacking Belle unconscious just because she wouldn’t help him in his revenge?
Rumple and the QoD not seeing that Regina is the mole- The others don’t trust Regina enough to tell her their full plan yet they don’t think she’s a mole when they nearly get busted by the heroes? Regina’s so shifty when she’s undercover, did it seriously not cross anyone’s mind that Regina might be undercover? Seriously? This lack of awareness is so obviously plot driven, it doesn’t make sense.

Keeper of FelixMarch 23, 2015 at 5:18 pm #299618BelleOfTheBallParticipantTHIS EPISODE WAS MY FAVORITE IN ALL OF SEASON 4!
I havent posted recently on the forums because I have been less and less enthusiastic about this show tbh. I fell in love with OUAT because of season 1. I loved the mystery of it. I loved the way they weaved stories. I loved the little nick-nacks in town that belonged to our favorite fairy tales. And recently, I have felt they have gotten so far away from that concept. I see them less as fairy tale characters and more as almost their storybook characters now. I dont relate them to the stories I know and love and that really stinks.
But THIS EPISODE brought all that back. It wasn’t a crazy take on a tale that we knew that was hardly believable just so two people had a back story together. IT MADE SENSE. Ursula had a backstory THAT WASN’T ABOUT LOOSING A MAN. Just kissing… but really that needs to stop being the reason everyone is evil..
I loved the way they brought in the shell that would later take Ariel’s voice in the Disney Movie. I love the introduction of squid ink to the Captain. I loved that Ursula redeemed herself in the end and reunited with her father. I love that they actually said “Little Mermaid” in the episode. I love that they gave a reason for Ursula to be half squid. Honestly, I don’t have much bad to say about this episode. Ursula is my favorite Disney Villain so if this is the way her story goes I am 100% happy with keeping it at that.
I mostly liked the Storybrook aspect as well. Loved how they brought in Pinocchio’s growing nose since we never actually saw that in FTL. I could do without Gold continuously hurting Belle, but it’s something I think I am going to have to get used to at this point. I’m not sure how they are going to go about this whole “The author is inside the book” theory but I’m intrigued.
All in All, this episode actually saved the series a bit for me. Last week I wasn’t sure how much longer I was going to continue watching.
March 23, 2015 at 6:13 pm #299630RumplesGirlKeymaster– A longer talk between Emma and August
If we don’t get a longer talk between Emma and August I might flip a table. Come one ONCE!

*hugs* Welcome back. I’m glad you enjoyed an episode after some disillusionment.
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"March 23, 2015 at 6:25 pm #299635Sci-Fi GirlParticipant-The sea god Poseidon needs Ariel to cross worlds? I don’t find this believable. He must be a very weak god!
I don’t think Poseidon needed Ariel to travel between realms. Ariel simply went to look for him after Hook requested her to. Pretty sure Poseidon can still travel between realms on his own.
-It was Poseidon who said that Ariel brought him to the portal. 34 minutes in:
”a young mermaid found me and brought me to a portal”
Once Ariel tells him of Ursula’s wherabouts, he should have been able to create his own portal from where he was standing when Ariel approached him. Instead, he had to be brought to one, which indicates that he could not create his own portal between where he was and SB.
Ariel couldn’t create a portal without some direction telling her where to go. (Not that that ever mattered before, the name of a realm was enough. 🙄 ) So maybe instead of trying to describe exactly where Poseidon should go, it was easier to just lead him to the portal she had already made?
Shaky rationalization, I know. 😉

edit, quote tags are wacky, trying to fix.

March 23, 2015 at 7:07 pm #299643RumplesGirlKeymasterGuys help a girl out. I can’t put some pieces together. Rumple says that he got “fairy magic” (right?) to turn August back into wood during the torture scene. But…where did he get fairy magic from..?
