C’mon. If you’re going to have big topics about God and fate, explore big questions
I agree with this. But they won’t because for them it’s all about big shiny shock value
Highlight of the ep for me, because it totally made me chuckle: “The job has gone back eons,” said by a guy named Eion.

The RumBelle scene- Loved this scene, RumBelle forever.
The author being a job not a person- I liked that the author is only meant to record rather than dictate and that it was the recent author manipulating things then recording them rather than dictating everyone’s actions from the off.
Cruella- Cruella continues to be awesome, the show really needs to keep her.
Rumple knew Regina was faking all along and was just waiting for her to slip up- I’m glad this was addressed, it seemed too unbelievable that Regina was so easily accepted within the villain group.
Maleficent asking Rumple to show her what happened to her child- I think this scene was emotionally layered because essentially it was a request from one parent to another. I also think the ghost of Bae was present in this scene for Rumple as “a child lost to the land without magic” is a callback to the Rumple/Bae story of season 1 and 2. I wish Bae’s name would be mentioned though because it seems like the writers want to go there and explore the emotional impact of Bae’s death but then lose the nerve at the last moment.
Mixed:
The twist that the author was up to no good and the sorcerer is the good guy- Seems a little obvious with the set up in hindsight. What I don’t get though is why the apprentice had to go through with the spell, was he being controlled to do it?
Disliked:
Hook getting jealous over Emma’s friendship with August- CS has always been a bit iffy for me depending on the season (3B is the only time I really supported CS) but Hook getting jealous over August is a bit of a red flag in my opinion. Emma shouldn’t have to justify herself to Hook over August. The fact that she feels she does implies that Hook doesn’t really trust her to be friends with a guy without something else going on. Then towards the end, it felt like Hook was giving his blessing/permission for Emma to be friends with August. Emma doesn’t need Hook’s consent to do anything least of all who she can/can’t be friends with. That just seemed a bit too controlling on Hook’s part for my liking.
Snowing especially Snow- First of all they’re having a whispered conversation about how Emma can’t find out when they’re stood in the middle of the room with Emma literally about two feet away and Henry is watching them. Then Snow walks out as if that wasn’t suspicious. Charming wants to burn the page to protect their secret but Snow is all “but Regina won’t get her happy ending”. This is classic Snow not seeing the bigger picture outside her own self-interests. In flashback, Snow’s actions were even worse. She stole Maleficent’s child because it wasn’t “a baby” so they could pour Emma’s potential darkness into it. That alone is a terrible thing to do but Snow seemed to think it was okay because they were going to give the egg back. Really Snow? Really? You’re going to doom someone else’s offspring to a life of evil but you’re happy to do that so long as they’re handed back to the parent? Also why are Snowing wondering around alone when they are the king and queen? Snowing are terrible rulers.

This episode we saw her fall down the portal to our world. It seemed like an accident. So really, was she banished? The current author is called Walt. Ugh. UGH!!!! Other than that, I liked everything else. 8/10. Points docked for the other two.
Oh…I forgot to say…
-Snow whispering about their secret with Emma and Hook (and Henry) literally a metre away. Did everyone else in the room suddenly go deaf? This was so dumb.
-Rumple knocking Regina out himself then later Mal saying to Rumple that he needed her, presumably to knock people out/make them sleep…and then Rumple showing in other actions that he does indeed need her.
Final score: 6/10

But manipulate what exactly? What did he do? We still have no idea.

It’s not enough for the audience to think Bae’s ghost was there. He should have been brought up for logical and emotional reasons

I was actually yelling “how does Emma not hear this?!” at my TV

– Cruella being so over the top villian-y. She does love a good murder.
– The Charming’s plotline. We see hints of Snow just being completely fed up with Regina after her wedding threat. She begins to think about weapons she can create to defeat her. I think this is a completely different tone from before the Charming’s got married where they were constantly on defense and never on offense.
This episode fed into that mindset. Snow is convinced that they have to ‘do something’ about the problem. In a very Snow-like way, which is not to consider the full ramifications for her actions.
Great new insight into these characters. And as we’ve seen with Regina, parenthood will drive some people to do most anything.
– Cruella and Ursula falling into the vortex. Didn’t see that one coming!
– August’s enthusiasm about The Author. Me thinks he’s been auditioning for the gig in his own August-like way.
Disliked
– The shout out to Walt Disney and not the Brothers Grimm. (purely personal opinion)
– Charming’s lack of empathy. Dude, so screw Regina and this Author you have never met, because something hypothetical might happen? Ugh. Also, the way he yelled at Henry was hard to watch.

So a lot happened in this one. We finally get an answer to whether the author controls fate or simply records history. And I really like the answer!
Because it always made the most sense for the author to record instead of create, and now we know that is how it has worked for most of history! That it is just this one author who decided to meddle. (So in a way, it’s both.) Although that seems to imply that all the Authors had the ability to change things, but the rest respected that power enough to not use it.
So “The Author” is merely a job, passed down throughout history, and there have been countless individuals with the task. That makes so much sense! And yes, Walt was one of them!!! 😀
I loved August’s enthusiasm when he was explaining about the author. He was almost giddy, it was adorable. ^_^
-Disliked:
One thing that really bothered me though, is no Marco! When they got August back last week, they didn’t take him straight to Marco. Surely he was worried! And now August gets sick, and they get … Blue Fairy. Hello! Where’s Marco?!? 😡 (And if Marco’s still asleep, aren’t they worried about that?)
I can see August being ashamed of … something, and not wanting his father to see this version of him. But if we know anything about Marco, it’s that he accepts every version of his son, and he just wants him to be OK. Sure he wants to raise his boy, but don’t you think he’d want to have a long talk with August, too?
This is just really bothering me, because of how much I loved the season 1 talk between August and Marco. When Marco was the most unconditionally caring and accepting parent, even without his memory or any idea that he was speaking to his son.

– Other thoughts:
So it is confirmed that Lily is Mal’s daughter, and explained how Cruella and Ursula got to our world. (Though not how they didn’t age. 😛 ) I wonder why niether of them raised Lily? Maybe they didn’t land together, the portal could have scattered them across the earth. Unless that was Cruella’s husband adopting Lily? 😮
When all we saw poking out of the egg was a little baby hand, I half expected to see a star mark on the wrist. I wonder if that mark is evidence of the magic that was done in this episode?

No he is not. Walt was just an example August gave about well known authors throughout history, but he’s not the name of the author we met.
@nicole_thrower current author's name not yet revealed. Not Walt.

I think they said …. Even a guy call WALT … AUGUST having lived in ALWM might have realized WALT DISNEY was a story teller /author. Emma would also know who he was referring to having been a movie going kid. I do no think August said the current author was called WAlt.. he was referring to a previous author Emma could relate to.
March 31, 2015 at 12:11 pm #300418SlurpeezParticipantThings that I liked:
– Henry discovering the key to the Author’s door and then hiding it from Regina
– August’s revelation about the Authors
– Cruella and Ursula serving as the coming relief
– Rumple being all cryptic
– Kristen van Straten’s acting chopsThings I really disliked:
– Snowing as baby-snatchers
– The magical quill which can interfere with characters’ free-will.
– Emma letting the Author out of the book. Seriously, what happened to Emma? That wasn’t a wise thing to do, especially given what August told them about the Author being trapped in the book for a good reason. Also, good sense would be not letting the Author out of the book after discovering that is what Rumple wants. Emma is playing directly into Rumple’s dastardly plan! *heads desk*"That’s how you know you’ve really got a home. When you leave it, there’s this feeling that you can’t shake. You just miss it."
