When coming to the forums … I always love this thread . . . What were your FAVORITE AND LEAST FAVORITE MOMENTS from this episode 4 X 18 SYMPATHY FOR DE VIL
[adrotate group="5"]April 19, 2015 at 2:33 pm #302033nonnieParticipantI have been waiting for this episode… the one villain we know the least about! I have seen the sneak peeks and pics just whetted my appetite.

.April 19, 2015 at 9:13 pm #302075RumplesGirlKeymasterI am really two minds over this episode. There were parts where I thought ONCE had some of that S1 magic back (like the Cruella twist) but there were also just a lot of nonsensical things and some annoying character moments. I think it might be my second favorite episode this arc, just narrowly beaten out by 412.
LIKED
–The Cruella twist. THAT was a OUAT twist that I remember and loved. The fact that she’s not a scorned woman who went evil (which is what I expected and hated) but rather just straight up crazy. That’s good. That’s very good. That’s just delightful.
–Victoria Smurfit killed it.
–Getting some more information about the Author and how his job works.
–Some of the outfits were really gorgeous
–Getting some idea of Rumple’s endgame, even if I think the reasoning is twisted and a disservice to his character.
–Cruella playing Angry Birds. YAAAAAS. (I really kinda loved her)
MIXED
–Great acting from Emilie and Bobby but that scene was full of NO. First off, if it’s True Love how do you not realize that you’re not actually kissing your true love but some empty vessel? Also the speech Belle gave (well Regina gave through her) was all sorts of hurtful.
–Emma. I get that she’s mad; that’s fine. But if she’s supposedly grown as a character (as A and E keep telling us) then she needs to find a new coping mechanism because she was petulant and it was a bit annoying.
–While I liked learning more about the Author..how did he get to Fictional London?
–Fictional lands exist outside of time…? What? So…what? Also, if they exist out of time then how has it ALWAYS been the 1920s in Cruella’s time. What about before the 1920s were even a thing? Like when it was 1910 in our world? How does that even work?
–EX HUSBAND?! When did THAT happen? HOW did that happen?! Did Belle fax Rumple divorce papers in NYC?! What?
DISLIKED
–How did Cruella get to the EF?! Come on writers! That’s just lazy. And how did her car get to our world?
–Cruella died during her backstory. Because of course.
–Emma saying that she can’t trust her parents at all. Good LORD. They are still good people Emma!
–Henry. Has no survival skills! After how many times being kidnapped?!

8/10 From Me!
Liked: Just nearly everything.
And finally a case where Evil was actually born and not made.
That twist was the best twist this entire season!
Disliked:
Plot Holes like @RumplesGirl pointed out.#DevilWriter….I Shipped This For Forty Minutes & Adam & Eddy Killed It In The Last Twenty Minutes….NEW RECORD!!!! (Cries uncontrollably)
Cruella’s Dead…..My Favorite Queen of Darkness had to be the one to kick the bucket!!! NOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

April 19, 2015 at 9:39 pm #302095nonnieParticipantI did not like this show at all… 2/10
Victoria did superb acting 10/10 …. but disliked Emma killing her and supposedly the reason she turned evil. As far as I am concerned it was justifiable homicide… Cruella was threatening her son HENRY. THE fact that Cruella could not kill any more changes nothing. I can see Emma being upset that she took a life but I think it was justifiable.
I also get peeved that EMMA is still angry with her parents… she has nothing to talk about… she did morally ambiguous things too … People/ parents sin and they deserve forgiveness and move on.
Lily on the other hand might have reason not to forgive. A better mission for EMMA would be for her to undo the damage her parents had done, by reversing the curse.
If ONCE continues on this bend I will have a hard time watching it.
Every one’s acting 10 /10 …. did great with an awful story.

.April 19, 2015 at 9:52 pm #302100KebParticipantI really enjoyed this episode.
Liked!:
–Within the first 20 minutes both Henry AND Belle had actual lines. Lines relevant to later action, no less.
–PONGO! I’ve missed you.
–Belle wanting to help Regina under the circumstances.
–Belle summoning Rumple with the wishing well.
–I’m headcanoning that Regina let Belle be Belle until she got bored (and had the info she needed) and then poured on the snark. Belle might not remember what happened (boo) but I think it was her up through the kiss–as much her will as anything a heart-controlled person does. (Regina probably didn’t let Belle be aware that she’d taken her heart, though. See dislikes.) And I loved every moment of their reunion.
–Regina facing off with Rumple and winning.
–Rumple trusting Belle enough to show her his heart.
–Cruella playing Angry Birds. OMG I laughed so hard.
–The twists with Cruella’s story. It got dark but it was dark when Jiminy turned Geppetto’s parents into creepy people puppets and Red ate her boyfriend back in S1. It felt like classic Once.
–Understanding the Author a little better.
–Rumple using his crystal ball (nice callback to previous episodes).
Disliked:
–Emma killing Cruella, when she had every reason to believe in that moment that Cruella was about to kill Henry, somehow makes Emma more evil than when she killed Chernabog or Maleficent (the latter with similarly limited info about her foe)? Wait, what? She hasn’t killed a LOT but she has killed as savior, and been willing to kill more (Her threat to Regina in 122?). Emma is not all innocence and sunshine, even if she IS good. (And other Good, Heroic characters have killed without its harming their innocence at all–David, for example, who definitely killed a few guards in just the pilot.)
–Saying bye too soon to such a fascinating character–Victoria made Cruella a pleasure to watch, something I never expected when she was first announced (not my fave film by a long shot, and I struggled to see how she could fit in…but she did, Darlings).
–The author so quickly abusing his power (and like, WHEN? I know A&E don’t’ care about the timeline but some of us do). Isn’t there, like, a test or something to prevent this?
–Not showing us how Regina took Belle’s heart. They left the suggestion that Belle might have OFFERED her heart to torture Rumple with? What? No way. But now it’s going to be endlessly argued in the fandom because of that lack of clarity. Plus…I dunno, there’s something I wickedly enjoy about Regina’s heart taking…but they couldn’t allow Belle to have that extra second of screentime. And forcing Belle to forget everything…sigh. That means basically in Belle time NOTHING has happened for three episodes. Again.

April 20, 2015 at 12:33 am #302132onceaholicParticipantI would like to give this 10/10, especially do to excellent acting all round, though Victoria Smurfit/Cruella particularly stood out.
Thing is, I am still confused as to the definition of ”Realm”. It was used to mean land/dimension/planet/world again….and a few episodes ago it was used to mean ”kingdom”.
The other thing is that we learned from Cruella’s backstory, is that evil can be born as well as made. This is fine, Regina can be wrong (she was only speaking from her own experience), but the apprentice ought to know that not everyone is born with a ”clean slate.” (May be he said it because the author put words in his mouth to convince Snow and Charming that because their child has potential for extreme good or evil, that the evil needs to removed from her and placed in another? Thing is, potential for both or one or the other is not what I would call a ”clean slate”).
So yeah, I enjoyed this episode, but I don’t know what to think of this one, tbh.

Belle might be willing to work with Regina, but she’d never trust her old jailer with her heart. That was just one of the spares from Regina’s vault. It was all a ploy to protect Belle from Rumpel’s wrath.

April 20, 2015 at 4:47 am #302146PheeParticipantAll of the flashbacks were pretty great, I enjoyed them a lot, it was a satisfying story…
But every time it cut to present day, I sank back in my seat and lost interest…
Unless it was a present day scene with Cruella, because she’s totally entertaining…
So of course they killed her off.

Yeah the present day stuff felt like the exact same conversation/plot line and situations they’ve had before. Like..omgosh! Someone kidnapped her parents!
