I actually really enjoyed this episode! I mean the big sticking point for me was that Mulan Rouge didn’t happen (and also like Keb I was a fan of Frankenwolf.) Dorothy just seems so random and out of the blue to have a TLK moment, but eh they pulled it off better than the Zades bike ride and there were plenty of other heart warming moments tonight to help make up for it.
LIKED
Okay I LOVED the Captain Charming moment! I’m glad Hook said thank you and said he didn’t want everyone to venture to underbrook for him. I’m also very happy Hook was able to help Snowing out by finding a loophole that gets Snow out of the underworld. Hook found a way to be helpful and I also got a nice CS moment from that too!
Snow and Ruby moments, all of them. The moment where Snow convinces Ruby to try TLK, the moment where Snow SEES the TLK, you can tell she is over the moon happy for her best friend. I wish Ruby was in more episodes, she was always one of my favorite characters
I liked how they sold the Ruby Slippers match up. Again I’m still sad for Mulan, that was a big missed opportunity, but I liked them bonding over being outcasts, that felt natural at least.
Snow going back to be with her son.
Zelena helping Belle (I’m assuming that’s where she got the sleeping curse?)
MIXED
The actual TLK with Ruby slippers. Yes I think the pairing was done better than I anticipated (again them bonding over outcasts was nicely done)… but the actual TLK moment? Eh they barely bonded for what an hour? Maybe if it had been set up over a few episodes I would have bought it more. It seemed like they were setting up Mulan Rogue last arc and then got cold feet. There wasn’t much build up for a TLK moment like that.
Zades… yeah… Idk guys. I like Hades a lot for a villain, but his romance with Zelena is weird. Also, I don’t trust him and that he is only doing certain things for Zelena. I think he gets some sort of power from keeping people in the river of lost souls. I think stopping Auntie Em from helping Dorothy may have had the added bonus of preventing her from moving on. Also if hades hates growth so much and hates hope springing up in the form of daisies why is he so eager to get a TLK with Zelena to start his heart..isn’t that hope? Wouldn’t TL and a beating heart help things grow again? Maybe I don’t understand the mechanics of underbrook that well or his motive.
Belle and the sleeping curse… Well I guess that it is one way to stop a pregnancy from accelerating (not one I would have thought of, but I guess it does do the trick), but you want your Dad to wake you up? um huh? The same father who wanted you to marry Gaston for his army even though he knew he wasn’t a good man? The same father who was prepared to send you over the town line against your will so you would lose your true self? I mean I know Belle forgave her father and he even gave his blessing to rumbelle.. but eh he wouldn’t be my first choice for a TLK and that’s a lot of faith right there to assume it will all work out. Also, I don’t understand rumple anymore. I stopped understanding him a while ago so I won’t get into it all here, however I do think this is setting him up to reform and wake up Belle with a TLK. I’m sorry it’s WAY too anticlimactic to have Mr. French wake up Belle – IF anyone does it is going to be Rumple. And I’m not sure how I feel about that after everything that has happened with them. These two definitely need some counseling with Mr. Hopper when they get back. (Also, I’m surprised Belle did this and Rumple didn’t just poof the needle out of her hands.)
DISLIKE
Mulan!!!! My poor Mulan! At the very least I’m happy they didn’t make this a love triangle situation, but UGH!!! I wish they would give this woman some justice.

April 18, 2016 at 2:01 am #321641WickedRegalParticipantFinally got around to rewatching this episode! The first time, I had family visiting and I barely hear the conversations due to my noisy family! Anyway…let’s begin.
Rating: 7/10
It was a pretty good episode.
Liked:
Zelena! This is a witch who does what she does, and it is what it is! Bex is brilliant once again.
Cruella….I missed her! And with one scene, Victoria does it again! “Tata Darlings” Ha!
Sassy Blind Witch!!!
Aunt Em was competition for the Blind Witch, now I hope she gets out of the River of Lost Souls because now I want an extreme competition between Granny and Aunt Em!!!! XD
That sisterly talk Regina had with Zelena was so nice…minus her using Baby Greenbean against her. But the odds of Regina being the one to give Zelena a pep talk.
I’m really shipping Hades with Zelena, but I’m so nervous he’s going to turn on her or something!
Zelena is finally learning to do the right thing!
Ruby/Dorothy/Mulan are officially the Three Musketeer Witch Hunters! It was definetly interesting, though I really hate Mulan playing third wheel again!
Snow making the right decision in the end by going back to be with her son.
Belle playing Rumple at his own game by pricking her finger, and sending herself into a sleeping curse knowing that she can have her cake and eat it too by having him save her with TLK, breaking his Dark One Curse, and saving their baby!
Mixed:
Ruby Slippers: If it wasn’t for Mulan/Ruby before hand, I could have gotten on board with this ship. Then again it may just be because of my dislike for the character of Dorothy as a whole, not the OUAT version, but all Dorothies….as a child, I never really got why a girl would just kill someone’s sister, steal said sister’s shoes and refuses to give them to the other sister, and then goes and kills the other sister, and just goes back home like she didn’t just commit accidental murder, theft, and premeditated murder.
But at least the actress was more enjoyable in this episode, though it was fast, the relationship was definetly believable. I just really preferred Mulan/Ruby over Ruby Slippers….but it will do.
So we can just scratch off names now? That’s what we can do now? Wow Adam and Eddy…just wow. I just…I just can’t.
Disliked:
I really felt Mulan kind of got side lined a little….it was almost Philora all over again! At least she didn’t have feelings for Ruby, but boy did they lead us on last year that Mulan/Ruby was where they were going. I’m even more convinced that the tweet of rage Jamie put on twitter was actually about Adam and Eddy swapping out Mulan for Dorothy to be Ruby’s TL thus robbing Mulan’s character of promised story continuity.

Ummm….Regina, you have been hanging around those “heroes” for far too long. No need in getting hypocritical and using Zelena’s baby as bait to do your and your family’s will. It just brought back bad memories of when Emma & Snowing kinda used Henry against Regina…..I just really wasn’t feeling that.

LIKED
-Non-heterosexual love….well done Once! Finally!
-Seeing RRH again.
-Red carrying Dorothy though Oz.
-That being the author is a 24 hour job….makes sense.
-That there were no sudden magical McGuffins. That all magical items etc were previously mentioned/previously used, then used later.
-”It’s hard to be a savior when no one wants you to save them” oooh good point, Hades!
-Red and Snow’s chit chat.
-Charming letting Snow leave Underbrooke. Predictable, but nice.
-Hook had limited screen time….which allowed more screen time for everyone else, in roughly equal portions.
-No silly blue hair (Hades).
MIXED
Belle telling Rumple to save the baby on his own so that she doesn’t have to darken her soul further. I realise that it was him that got Belle and the baby into this mess in the first place, but I can’t decide if the reason she provided was selfish or if she had the right to say it.
DISLIKED
-That it took Charming that long to figure out that he and Snow shouldn’t be there.
-The confusing issue, below.
CONFUSION-EPISODE
-Why doesn’t Hades turn everyone into gloop before they have the chance to move on to a better place.
(I guess Belle is right and to him souls in Underbrooke=power, enough to overthrow Zeus, and his threat of turning everyone into gloop was an empty one).
CONFUSION-GENERAL
-What happened to the SB-as-the-new-Camelot arc?
-Is that dwarf still a tree on the other side of the town line?
-When will we see more of RH’s promised backstory-the one that is supposed to explain why he says he has dark past (robbing from the rich to give the poor doesn’t count).
Keeper of Regina's bravery
April 18, 2016 at 7:52 am #321651onceaholicParticipant–Belle has morning sickness but she is so newly pregnant that she didn’t even know she was pregnant when Rumple told her. But Zelena, who was pregnant for long enough to fully know she was with child, never had morning sickness? That makes NO sense.
Speaking from personal experience, I suffered from morning sickness just before I got a positive pregnancy test. It turned positive 14 days past ovulation, the most common day to get a positive. (This ended up as a chemical this Feburary, however). Meanwhile my friend who carried two boys to term never experienced nausea or morning sickness in either of her pregnancies.

Yes if Hades can do what he did to Auntie Em, then why can’t he just dump a whole vat of the river on Emma et al’s head and call it a day?

Either that’s because he enjoys forcing other people to destroy each other or because just as he can’t touch the living without the proper protocol, he can’t destroy the souls without some intervening thing happening. Have we actually seen Hades himself put someone in the river without help?

I guess you mean an actual human and not a goopy mess? Then no. But he can touch the living; he touched Belle’s baby belly (through clothes but gods that’s a fine line to walk) in 5×17. And He literally held Zelena on the bike ride.
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"April 18, 2016 at 10:01 am #321670KebParticipantI meant harm them, not physically have contact with them.
And yeah, pouring the goopy mess in, or engineering it so that someone goes into the river, that he can do…but I think he has to have an agent to force someone to go into the river. That’s why he needed to set up the Rumple vs Gaston shoving match, why he had to force Rumple to throw Milah in, why Cora was the one threatening other people with it instead of Hades himself.
Something prevents him from adding to the river of lost souls without assistance, but he wants people there.

April 18, 2016 at 10:54 am #321676thedarkonedearieParticipantOk… here’s goes nothing. This may be the most negative I’ve been about the show in awhile so bare with me.
Overall: 5/10
I thought this episode was pretty awful.
Liked:
– That they followed through on this LGBT relationship. There were issues, but at least it was something.
– Snow and Ruby’s talk about how Snow knew for a long time about Ruby. It was true, it was heartfelt, and very realistic and Snow was the perfect person to have that conversation with her. Best scene of the episode.
– Hades turning Auntie Em into gloop was pretty great.
– Belle coming to Zelena for help was great too. Enjoyed that scene quite a lot.
– Snowing actually feeling bad for leaving baby Neal. We all jumped on the writers for not addressing this at the end of season 5a, and I’m glad they found a way to get Snow back to her son. Plus spitting up those two usually makes them more interesting honestly.
– Hook’s redemption? He actually had a nice conversation with Charming and Charming admitted Hook was growing on him. And Hook actually thanked him and almost sort of apologized for not seeming more grateful. But it is also makes more sense to me now….Hook seems less grateful not because he’s a jerk but because he didn’t want Emma to save him, never mind have the whole motley crew come down for him. He obviously is thankful, but it’s hard to be really thankful when he didn’t want them to do it in the first place.
– Henry actually being the author and calling Charming Grandpa. It’s the little things writers…
– Once again Hades and Zelena are sort of stealing the show this half season.
Mixed:
– Realm jumping has just become way too easy. And I get why it has become that way. They need new stories, so they need new realms and they need to send these characters to these realms. Problem is that the way they told seasons 1-3, getting to different realms was extremely difficult. Now it’s not and the show suffers a bit for it.
Disliked:
– How did Ruby get to the UW exactly? A tracking spell (although wasn’t a tornado what brought her here).
– Ruby Slippers happened so fast. They continue to have this problem. Had the relationship been with another character, perhaps it would have felt less rushed because we had seen Ruby with them before. That’s what I thought they meant when they said they were setting up this relationship in season 5a. This was crazy fast, and honestly just so early for true love’s kiss.
– Poor Mulan. This was heartbreak hotel for me. I stood by this character being in the LGBT relationship and I said I would be angry if she wasn’t part of it, so I am. How many times is she going to use pronouns? How many times are the people around her going to find love and she isn’t? Why even bring Mulan back for this crap? Anybody who saw season 2, knows Mulan was being set up for this relationship. Why that changed is beyond me. Even in season 5a, they had Red leap onto Mulan, and then they showed that in the beginning of this episode as well. All signs pointed to Mulan. But then they cast this random girl who they wanted to be “warrior Dorothy”, and she really was only cast so they could pair her with Ruby. They had never met before. She also literally sucked. Did she display any sort of warrior fight in her at all in the two episodes we saw? She got burned by Zelena a couple episodes ago, and now she needed Ruby to escape some flying monkeys. And then she went and got herself pricked into a sleeping curse. What a waste and a bland character. With Mulan, they had met before. It would have felt way less rushed. Especially since they allegedly have been together doing stuff since 5a. Why did they change this? I just don’t get it. The relationship was nice in that it was nice to see this kind of relationship fully accepted on this show. But boy did they mess this part up. And now both characters will just go to forgotten character island. So not only did they screw up Mulan here, but now this LGBT relationship is only going to be for one episode. We aren’t even going to see it continue to be played out like all the other couples on here. Very furious about this. Ok rant over.
– The plot literally stopped this week. What on earth is Hades’ end game? What is the friking point of his character right now? We still don’t know so much and it’s reminding me of season 3b.
– Belle putting herself in the sleeping curse. Like WHAT? How is it that Hades can’t get the baby if she is knocked out? That makes no sense. And equally, it makes no sense that she would think her father would be the one to wake her up. Her father isn’t even in the UW! Is she crazy? This was so dumb and it made Belle look rash and she didn’t even let Rumple try and explain why this was a horrible idea. What a dud to end the episode on.
– Where on earth was Robin. There was a line Regina even said saying that Robin would want Snow to check in on Roland in SB. Are you kidding me? Like where the heck was this man?
We better get some answers as to what they plan to do to defeat Hades, and how they plan on saving Hook, because remember, he is still actually dead! The plot is a mess right now. This half season started so strong and the last two just have stopped the UW plot and it’s maddening. Hopefully next week gives us some good Regina and Zelena stuff and moves the plot along. But this was the worst episode of this half season by far for me.
April 18, 2016 at 1:37 pm #321704PheeParticipantSo now Henry’s writing and illustrating while conscious, even though two episodes ago he was blacking out? And none of the other characters commented on this development? Not even a, “You seem to be getting the hang of this Author thing, Henry.” Really?!
Hades didn’t enchant Hook’s hook to carve names, he gave him a tool. Why should they bother with continuity in the SAME season?
That bothered me so much! Didn’t they also make his hook enchanted with heart taking ability when it shouldn’t have been recently? If the writers don’t care enough to keep things consistent, then how am I meant to be engaged in their story?
On the plus side, I actually enjoyed Snowing again for the first time in FOREVER in this ep. And we got to see Snow and Red’s friendship again, which was great.
