Oh, we’ve separated them out, okay.

Well…I really loved this finale pair, actually. Not because it was exceptionally great, but because it felt like it was really going back to S1/S2 and was very character-driven–with Henry, Emma, Regina, and Gold’s characters driving it, as it should be.

Yes, Belle was absent, but I couldn’t help swooning over Gold’s gentle treatment of her box, all nestled up in his overcoat on the passenger seat…

Henry’s being stupid, but if his family would COMMUNICATE with him…

And Regina. I never was an Evil Regal, but Lana earned all the awards for her performance.

Some slight discontinuity with how certain magics work (yay blood magic locator, but…) and I’m annoyed with how they concluded Camelot without actually concluding it (Dopey’s still a tree, and does ANYONE care about Guinevere?). But overall…yay Onceness!

BUT is that not the way LIFE IS? We are often pawns to forces outside ourselves …. some good, some bad… Employers, family and relatives, friends…significant others, the bank that holds the mortgage on your home…the idiot driver on the road …Mundane but true…. I do not think we decide our own fate as much as react to the results of the decisions we make or are thrust upon us by others.

My comment wasn’t about Belle actually deciding her own fate, because nobody is totally in control of that. It was more about the depiction of Belle. In recent times, it seems like her character is totally defined by her relationship with Rumple. We’re seeing less and less of her doing things independently or interacting with other characters. In this latest arc, none of the ‘heroes’ interacted with Belle, unless you count Zelena. They do however, use her to manipulate Rumple. I know Belle has the narrative function of pulling Rumple back from the darkness, but they could do more with her character.

I completely agree. The writers don’t seem to realise that by not having the “heroes” interact with Belle outside of when they want her to do research, it’s actually making them look bad because they are using her. It’s even worse when they use Belle as a means to manipulate Rumple because the “heroes” aren’t actually considering Belle’s feelings in the matter, she is simply a means to get Rumple to do what they want.

So if the “heroes” know that Rumple’s doing what he’s doing to wake Belle, then why are they so against him instead of trying to help him find a safer way? Do they really care that little about Belle that they’re willing to leave her trapped in a sleeping curse forever?

No, they don’t care at all about Belle. As has been mentioned before, the Charmings only care about people who’re in their inner circle. Snow threw Belle under the bus to save Hook when she blabbed to Mr. Hyde that the dark one found love and that his wife is pregnant. Snow just couldn’t keep her big fat mouth shut. She planted the idea in Hyde’s mind to target the dark one’s wife and unborn child. Ugh!
