But there’s something about this season that isn’t…sitting well with me. Tiny scenes are good, even tiny story arcs are good. But the overall picture is messy and aimless. I don’t get what the end game is. What’s the point of this season besides visiting the characters from Forgotten Character Island and watching the EQ have a sass-off? I think a lot of this is due to the poor world building and the flimsy understanding the writers have about the savior themselves. The “forgotten stories” fit into a tiny episode but overall they are just there to fill up time until we get to a winter climax.
Rating: 7.5/10
LIKED
–Lana’s acting is, of course, phenomenal
–“He’s not my father!” “You’re not even a part of this family!”
–The underwater visuals were quite good. Actually, the CGI seems to have improved overall this year.
–Is the giant squid of doom any relation to Leggy from S3??? (Memories, guys. Memories)
–The conversation between Emma and Aladdin at the town line was well done; this is what this season should be–Saviors wrestling with their cosmic significance.
–Hook giving Henry a chance to escape. YES GOOD. Henry is more important to Emma or should be (and is an innocent child besides) and you need to be willing to put his life ahead of your and your romance. GOOD HOOK. GOOD.
MIXED
–I love the EQ being feisty but what does she actually want? What is her goal here??? She’s just serving as a one-line fabulous machine but what’s her character motivation? Just chaos?
–Shears of destiny work on anyone? At least they’re more than the MacGuffin of the week, then! But what exactly will they do to Belle/the baby? Is this a magical abortion or does it just change Morfetus’s personality/view on Rumple?
–Holy crap, they actually solved the story of Liam 2.0! It’s not a great ending but they actually followed up with it. I am blown away.
DISLIKED
–“Time of the Dark Curse” LOL, okaaaaaay? Shouldn’t Hook be trapped inside Cora’s bubble which was relatively small?
–Emma’s red dress. Seriously what up with this dress? Emma’s clothing usually symbolizes something so what am I supposed to read with this one?
–Aladdin’s accent is driving me bonkers.
–The complete indecisiveness that is Belle lately. She’s basically a human ping pong ball.
–NONONONONONONONONO. What is this EQ/Rumple NONSENSE. WHY?! GAG ME WITH A SPOON.

That is EXACTLY how I feel, which is why I have been so frustrated. We are seeing glimpses of a much better show, but it still isn’t as coherent as it should be. With season one we knew the goal was to break the curse and so that was the overarching story, but this season we don’t really know what is going on except that Emma is trying to avoid an eventuality that apparently has to come true in some shape or form. Obviously defeating the Evil Queen as well, although there doesn’t seem to be too much focus on that. I would have thought they should have questioned if using the shears on Regina might have got rid of the queen?
Shouldn’t Hook be trapped inside Cora’s bubble which was relatively small?
A very good point, although it’s really confusing, because even if he was in the bubble shouldn’t these other characters be frozen?

Liked:
That they gave us the rest of Liam’s story. I thought we would never hear from him again so I am glad that they brought it back up
That Hook thought about Henry first and told him to go
I like that they are showing the adjustment between Henry and Hook and that Henry does not just automatically accept him into the family, although that is all we will ever probably see.
Mixed:
Archie was saved. I think baby Robin liked him and I kind of liked the thought of Archie helping Zelena back into the good path. I could actually maybe ship them.
Disliked:
Belle: I hate how this show is totally leaving out the fact that Rumple is the father and does have some rights (or at least should) why does Belle get to decide whether he gets to part of the ultra-sound or not or whether he gets to be part of the babies life even. Maybe the reason baby Morpheus hates Rumple is because Belle has never let him be a part of his father’s life?
I HATE Rumple and the Evil Queen it makes me sick to my stomach even more than Cora ever did. I don’t see how they got from a father/daughter relationship or at very least teacher/student to THIS. Stop right now writers, it is actually making me not want to watch
Does Rumple want to use the shears on Belle or on himself? If he want to use them on Belle, how? That made no sense to me.
Emma stated that she understood why Hook did not dispose of the shears because she would have done the same thing. YOU did do the same thing, it was how Hook became the dark one and almost killed everyone in Storybrooke and why your family all went to the underworld to save him. Do either of these two ever learn from their mistakes?
I don’t care about Jasmine and Alladin’s relationship. I find it boring and his accent drives me nuts.

I like Aladdin’s accent at least it is understandable and so thick that it can not be understood. It does not grate on my nerves as some accents have in the past.
As for BELLE’s indecisiveness it is to be expected she is separated from her husband and she is pregnant under trying circumstances. Trying to decide what is best for her baby is hard enough under the best of times. The hormones of pregnancy is not to be underestimated …. it screws with your mind.

TOTALLY AGREE WITH THIS …

I don’t either! The show is capable of selling a lightening-fast relationship–last season I was quite taken with Zades. But there’s something totally lacking in the Jaladdin ship.

It was…cute. Honestly speaking, my fear of squids/krakens/octopuses forced me to skip most of the flashback so I really can’t comment on that, but the Storybrooke Scenes were pretty good.
Liked:
As always…Lana slays as both the Evil Queen & Regina…she plays it so well, you can actually tell how much different Regina is from the Evil Queen, who said so herself “had much more flair in entrances”. XD
Aladdin & Jasmine…the story could’ve been better and not as rushed, but the actor and actress are selling it for me.
Hook sparing his brother, and willing to make amends while also realizing that although he’s dating Emma, her son is the number one priority in all cases.
Adam & Eddy actually remembered Hook had a brother!
Mixed:
Poor Belle…all I can say is Poor Belle!
Disliked:
SQUIDS! Can we just…no more, please!
So I assume Henry is house hopping….wasn’t he initially living with Regina again? And now he’s back with Ms. Swan….hmmm….okay. Yes, the RegalBeliever in me is a little salty, but at this point, nothing surprises me in the storytelling.
Whose idea was it to bring in this horrid Evil Queen & Mr. Gold Romance?!!! They’ve always had more of a platonic father/daughter relationship…what they’ve done to it now, it just looks so weird!
Why are we revisiting this Snow White Revenge plotline with the Evil Queen…like dear God, shouldn’t her first priority and goal be in getting Henry and not trying to kill Snow again and screwing Gold. Didn’t her soul mate just die, show-wise two weeks ago??!! I can’t!
