I do not think GG is physically ready to do a lot of filming so their story is pretty much on the back burner
I definitely get that. I am all in favor of GG getting some time off. I just think that how they are handling GG’s time off is….not good.
As for the writing of SNOW & PC being the fawning / over protective parents … I think they are still trying to come to grips with Emma as an adult…. In their hearts she is still there baby.
Sure. but there’s a big difference between always seeing your child as a baby (I mean, I’m almost 28 and my mom still sees me as her baby and that’s fine) and the sort of intense fawning and almost possessive weirdness of Snow right now.

She’s too clingy and she’s going to give baby Nemo issues if she doesn’t learn to back off a bit.
…. I calculate BABY NEMO is less than three weeks old so SNOW can be protective and clingy with an infant ( especially as a first time new momma) ….. now at 2-3 years old yes it would be too much. I think we as the audience are putting the time passing as weeks instead of just days. I have not seen anything that lets us know time has been pasting…. My calculations is from episode one to now it has only been a couple of days…. DOES anyone have a better indicators or calculation of time for this show?
October 20, 2014 at 8:22 pm #286512KebParticipantWell, I haven’t gotten to S4 on my timeline yet, but I look for a lot of things. They tend to drop a line here or there like “she tried to kill us yesterday,” and clothing changes can be useful too.
But here’s the thing: A&E have all but said they don’t really care about precision with the timeline. They clearly have an order of events in their head (and possibly on paper somewhere) but they’ll have some things in the show act like it’s only been a few hours while other things happening simultaneously should take at least a week between events. It’s confusing and frustrating.
I have a feeling that in their heads it’s been several weeks or possibly a couple of months since Neal died, and almost as long since the little prince was born. But all the indicators of the show suggest that it’s been days at best, based on Elsa’s storyline. She hasn’t been in town for weeks, and she came just days after the death/birth (which were only a couple days apart, if I’m estimating right).
So even though I will at some point lay down a date and say this is pretty close, your guess is honestly as good as mine. They’ve done this before, like in S2 when the beans (that take 100 years in giant land) grew almost overnight even though they made out like it was weeks and weeks–but other events were clearly happening at a day-by-day pace.
And it’s hard for them to not feel like more time has passed than they’re allowing; it takes a month or so to produce a single episode (a couple weeks’ filming, and a couple weeks of CG and post production stuff), and then we see each ep with a whole week between if we’re not binge watching on Netflix a year later. So for both the creators and the audience, a LOT of time passes between each episode and so some stuff (like the beans) feels plausible even if the bloody dialogue itself doesn’t allow for it.
Chalk it up to magic where needed. The baby’s probably older than he should be. He has to be played by an older actor anyway (there are regulations about how young an infant can work). So unless they say it in the show, they aren’t tied down to anything.

– “A long time ago…” (in a galaxy far, far away?) Was it just me or did Apprentice vs. Zoso feel a bit Jedi-like?
– “Is that just the corset? Where’s the rest of it?” – Elsa Also, David before and especially after the date was just perfect.
– The Knave sure is stepping up his drinking habits from a pub and a beer to this restaurant and whiskey.
-Some cute, clever moments between Emma and Hook like the Graham parallel (only, Graham never misses), acknowledging the age gap, ect.
-The Knave outside the library. Talking to the library door, the “That’s what I say” when Hook says his “bloody hell”, it all made me grin.
-Rumple pouting, “We had a deal.” Anna is perfect and it was fun to see the old Rumple.
-The old man apprentice character (Mickey?) and the Fantasia references, like the sassy marching broom.
– THE RADIO BROADCAST: “Current temps in Storybrooke are near 70’s in mid-town, dropping to low 30’s out by the ice wall…Granny’s Diner: It’s better than you remember. Alright, we’ve got a request here from Mr. Rip Van Winkle who’s looking for something classic to wake up to.” This broadcast was the Hook’s cell phone moment of this episode, for me. I just loved it.
-Belle calling Emma on that relic of a phone because Will is passed-out drunk and cuddling a book. First the Polaroid camera, now that phone; it’s starting to feel like a time-warp in Storybrooke.
– Liking where things are going with the hat so far.
– Sven doesn’t want carrots. That reindeer is brilliant. Sniffing around like “You smell of lies!”, he totally stole the scene.
– The hand only gave Hook permission….seems like Gold got Hook to show his (non-literal) hand by bluffing the whole time.
-The book….oh, mercy. I saw it coming but, that still stabbed me right in the heart. Everyone’s still alive though, as far as we know so, it goes on the positives side. Lots of Alice references with what felt like a couple nods to the trial in the Lewis Carol book. “Doesn’t mean a thing.” “Must’ve been some party, eh?”
-Ending on another possible Star Wars nod, Sarah Fisher —> Princess Fisher —-> Carrie Fisher —-> Princess Leia? (If so, they’re recycling. Maybe a nod to DQ having some part in Emma’s past?)
These, maybe not so much:
– I’m not sure I buy Hook wanting his hand back so badly he’s turned to blackmail to get it back. Also, there’s a lot of the pot calling the kettle black between he and Rumple. Oh, and these death threats and violent acts against the Knave have got to stop.
– I don’t get what was so alarming about the hand during the goodnight kiss. They both seemed spooked afterwards. Was it gonna rip out her heart or what? Ugh, cursed hand or no, why is this episode making me feel like Hook’s so darn threatening all of a sudden?
"The Laws (of Magic) never bothered me anyway."

1. Mary wanting to know all the details after Emma’s date. David not wanting to know much at all. Haha reminding us that they really are her parents (and they did miss all of this sadly) Strange since she’s a grown woman but very cute parenting moment!
2. Belle calling Emma on that HUGE phone
3. Anna telling Rumple — wait just because I tell you not to come closer you’re not? (after she got his dagger. hahaha. it was hilarious)
4. New restaurant in Storybrooke! Where has this been? haha
LEAST:
1. Why did Anna NOT have Rumple tear up the contract??
2. Why didn’t the dagger go w/Anna when she was transported? Why didn’t she ask more questions about her parents? Didn’t Rumple have to turn the mouse back into a man but Anna didn’t give the man/mouse any protection even though she obviously knew Rumple was out to hurt him and he was important. Couldn’t Rumple have killed the man/mouse then?
3. Henry using Neal as a reason to work with Rumple. UGH! That just makes me sad 🙁October 21, 2014 at 3:42 pm #286682MyrilParticipantuggghh:
Henry – that kid should get some friends his age and have some teenage fun. He’s getting into Wesley Crusher territory for me, is even pretty close to beat him in being most obnoxious teenager character very soon.
Operation Mongoose – makes no sense to me. So far the book only recorded events that happened in the past, before the first Dark Curse. Especially Henry should know that. So what is that nonsense about writing a happy ending for Regina? Never cared that much, who wrote the book anyway. And they want to drag out this story for the whole season? Whatever.
so-so:
The whole hand thing. So contrived. Romantic cheese factor turning a character into Mr. Superdumb, though Hook should have enough brain to know, that he never should trust Rumple. Love makes blind or so. On the other hand I like, that Hook gets something else to do than being just eye candy and material for for drooling and some smooching phantasies. As it is nice to see well earned and lasting animosity between two characters for a change, those two have at least both reasons (not saying good ones, but reasons) to hate each other, and even better, they’re allowed to show it. It gives Robert Carlyle and Collin O’Donoghe material to show their acting skills. Still, the hand thing makes no sense. And neither does the video tape (how many people have video surveillance installed at their homes and have it on while their at home?)
Anna’s fairyback story. Didn’t make that much sense either. But was fun to watch Anna meeting Rumple. Rumple made even my head spin a bit with twists, but good that Anna beat him – at least for that moment.
yeah:
Emma getting family moments, before and after the date. Yes, she is an adult woman, but a lot of parents can’t help it when you’re living under one roof with them, no matter what age. Not to mention, it’s amazing how many people often feel like they have a right to butt into one’s love life (a mix of care and voyeurism). I loved the moments.
extra mentions:
Kristoff and Sven – can I borrow them for a while? They are a lot more loveable in this live action form. Ovations to the team making Sven Sven, be it Jack the reindeer, trainers, camera team, sound – just great work.
Applause for the stunt mouse (or mice). Good touchdown, nice bite.
The mechanic wizard has become the Apprentice – nice to see Timothy Webber (another one from Arctic Air cast, played there the mechanic, but also known from North of 60).
extra notice:
80s brick cordless phone Belle used (looked like some AT&T cordless model)
Car parked before the apprentice’s house, a 1955 or so Ford Victoria, I think .
The curses created records of all inhabitants of Storybrooke? Neat.
Damon Lindelof on the radio.¯\_(?????? ?)_/¯
