I think Ruby and Mulan have been gone from the show too long to fit back in. Even if they stay around as regulars from now on, even if they get new plotlines built around them, they won’t have that continuity with what made them memorable in the first place.

And she just up and used it for herself because retcon-reasons. And Snow was totes cool with her doing that. Because it’s not like magical beans are a rare and precious thing that could very well be needed for something important some day.

Yes! Like when a certain Snow Queen wants to curse the people of the town to kill each other.

November 17, 2015 at 6:14 pm #312770The Swan PrincessParticipantIt was an alright episode. Before I watched the double episode I was more excited about this episode than the pervious one, but then “Birth” was way better than this one.
Favorites:
1) Merida and Mulan and Ruby being badbutts and cute together. And sending heart eyes to each other. I don’t know, maybe it’s because I already knew there was going to be a relationship between two of the three, or because I have this habit of shipping most of the woman who look at each other at TV shows, but I could see the spark between Mulan and Ruby. And between Mulan and Merida too but that’s probably not where they’re going since Mulan and Ruby went to an off screen adventure.
2) The witch was perfectly cast and amazing.
3) So much continunity! Season 3 and the time travel and Anton the giant from season 2 and Mulan and Aurora it’s incredible! So they do remember those things!
Mixed:
1) Mulan Rouge (love that ship name). On one hand I love Mulan and I love Ruby and I want both of them to be happy and if they’re happy together that’s nice. And they were so cute together. But on the other hand I ship Frankenwolf. I always did. I’m always going to want them to be together, and I’m never not going to be hurt every time I see Whale and Ruby on my screen and they’re not together. The writers had the perfect ship. They somehow managed to take Red Riding Hood and Frankenstein and make it believable for them to be together, to make it the obvious way for them. And then THEY NEVER DID SOMETHING WITH IT. I’m SO MAD.
2) It was nice to see that there’s a reasonable explanation why Ruby is not in Storybrooke, and it even connects to season 3 and to the other werewolves from season 2, but like why? And it doesn’t even make sense. Ruby thought of Storybrooke as second chance…
Least Favorites:
1) This episode was completely unnecessary, especially after the previous one. They left us in such a moment of suspense, and then an hour of this. It could be a great episode if I wasn’t waiting for a continuation of the Dark Hook arc.
2) Merida’s mom. Looked like Merida’s slightly older sister. I felt it was a complete insult to the movie in which her character was amazing and important to the plot. And they did the same thing already with Belle’s mom. What’s wrong? You can’t cast older women?
3) They? Really Mulan? They?!?
4) Enough with the Scottish accent!!! I apologize if people really do speak like that in Scotland, but it felt like they hired a bunch of American actors and told them to do a Scottish accent. Like way too much.
You know what I can't continue with the dead people brought back to life list I'm out of space in the signature and now we have an underworld arc this is to much I quit why do you bring so many people back to life OUAT WHHHYYYY

LIKES
Did anyone else notice that in the second episode the blood in the second one (shown after 9pm) was a darker red (more realistic), and that there was actually a (mild) battle scene-possibly OUAT’s first one? ( I don’t count the Snow Queen’s curse, that was far too comical). And that we actually saw a blade go though somone and out the other side (though it was definately his shoulder, not a lethal stab lol). OUAT suddenly became relatively sensible for second!
The witch was funny. What a great actress.
Zelena/Rebecca Mader was great, too.
Other than the above, I didn’t like this episode.
Too much time was spent on advertising Merida. In fact, 95% of the time was spent on Merida while ignoring our mains.
I didn’t like the convenience of the magical bean, and Snow giving Ruby her full blessing to use it for herself and only herself. I really hope that we will get to Tiny again, that he comes to the gang to tell them that he has successfully grown more magical beans.
And…timeline, anyone? I was so confuddled.

November 17, 2015 at 10:25 pm #312788KebParticipantI guess I tend to like the “filler” eps because I think A&E and their team do a better job with a shorter story than a longer arc. Less stuff to forget. I loved Merida and her dad and their relationship.
I was frustrated that their story had almost no connection with the main cast–even just bringing Belle in for a mention would have made my night.

November 22, 2015 at 2:19 pm #312944PriceofMagicParticipantFinally watched this episode.
Why did they use the young Snow on the runaway horse opening card when it had nothing to do with the episode?
Merida’s mom does not look old enough to be Merida’s mom.
It was nice to see Ruby and Mulan again but it did feel like there had been character assassination especially with Ruby. MulanRouge is almost certainly the LGBT couple.
The scene between Merida and her father was nice. Will the magical ale come back into play? They could always use it to talk to Neal if they could get MRJ back but most likely it will be used for other means.
This episode was completely filler.
All magic comes with a price!

Pretty sure they wanted it to look like it was Merida riding her horse, but clearly they just recycled the animation from “The Stable Boy”.

The fact that they have now introduced a Magical McGuffin that allows someone to not only talk to but interact and even hug a dead person makes my left eye twitch. I know it won’t be used for Neal but once again he’s the giant elephant in the room because… y’know…back in episode 505, Henry made a big show about how much he’s learned from his father and how he wishes Neal were around to talk to. And Rumple apparently doesn’t know about magical ale unless this show wants me to believe that Rumple wouldn’t use every opportunity to try and talk to his dead son–because I have amnesia and have forgotten what a huge swath of S1 and S2 were about.
Elephant. Room. Blah blah blah

Which is weird since they had a much better animation at the ready—just recycle the arrow through the ‘O’ in ONCE from episode 506, the Bear and the Bow!
