.April 3, 2016 at 8:59 pm #320758RumplesGirlKeymasterI don’t know guys. It was alright? Maybe better than last week? The charisma of Hades certainly makes up for the fact that the writers are self-plagerizing themselves again (this time from S3B). Zelena had some strong moments but the inconsistent mythology, the poor dialogue, the haunting booth, the slow pace of the entire plot…it bothers. So, it was okay, but not as strong as it could be.
LIKED
–Toto!
–“You’ll hurt me with your book learning??”
–snow in the underworld (because it’s a cold day in Hell?)
–“Who the Hell are you?” Who the hell…that question is more appropriate than you know!”
–“Is the Devil flirting with me?” These two are kinda awesome together
–“We’re regulars at the diner in Hell!”
–Okay we were all right that Hades is bitter against Zeus for his lot in life.
–My enemies became my family”
–HAHAHAHAHA Zelena literally ripped the Scarecrow’s brains out!
MIXED
–The Scarecrow CGI is good but at the same time, the stuff of nightmares!
–Wait wait wait. Does this show have a DEVIL?! Is Lucifer a thing now?! What on….my god. What. WHAT MYTHOLOGY BOOKS ARE THESE PEOPLE READING?! Because Hades is real and the Underworld is real and Olympus is real and apparently the figure we know as the DEVIL is also real??!?! (I’m setting my shiny degrees on fire. I give up)
–Hades’s heart is frozen and needs TLK to break it? This is a thing that can happen? I mean, okay sure. But since when?
–“If you want me to be a different man, I’m sorry. This is who I am.” I need to think about this more. My first instinct was utter disagreement. It’s not really the truth to who Rumple is in the beginning; it is true to the OOC character we know now. I didn’t like it. And it was poorly written. But it wasn’t without merit.
–*Zelena gets on bike* *Hades looks down at his body and has a reaction* UMMMMM. (Yes, yes. Heartbeat) (But still…UMMMMMM)
–The unbelievably torturous dialogue of the “love” scene. “When I was on that bike…with my arms around you!!” Spare me. You’ve known each other for a hot second. It’s not true love. It’s lust or something like it. But the actors are good, so it goes in mixed.
–I honestly don’t know what to do with Hades and Zelena. A romance–a believable one–cannot be built over the course of 20 mins. Ever. It’s silly to think otherwise. So it’s silly and nonsense and I don’t know why I’m supposed to care. But it was sort of heart-string-pulling.
DISLIKED
–How does Zelena recognize Dorothy?
–The munchkins got word to Dorothy….how?
–How does Dorothy know the Scarecrow? And how does the Scarecrow have a brain if the Wizard never gave one to him? And he never met Dorothy and had the proper Oz story?
–Dorothy is powerful because she has the love of the people….the Marxist revolution is going to start any day now on this show, right?
–Hades–a GOD–can’t bring people to the Underworld on his own.
–Stop the hair. My god. Stop the hair.
–Hook insulting Henry’s story. Lay off! They are there saving YOU. Cut him slack, all of you. (Grrr)
–How did Hades get to Oz?
–So basically S5B is a rehash of 3B?? Nonsense. It’s a shame that something promising is just another self-plagerization
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"April 3, 2016 at 9:02 pm #320759KebParticipantFor Rumbelle & Oz & Author Henry stuff this gets a 9/10 from me. Some mixed feelings and I feel like they’re recycling plot elements more than weaving the threads right now, but we’ll see what they do with them.
Likes:
–Belle being adorbs with babies.
–Yay Mother Superior exists!
–Zelena being just like her mommy.
–Belle being brave and trying to save the baby from Zelena
–Munchkins! Oz!
–Henry facing critics of his writing. Henry writing!
–Hades has a story! Yes!
–Rumple being honest with Belle. Maybe more honest than she can deal with.
–Belle deciding to hold off on choices this time until things aren’t going insane around her.
–Zelena showing true love for her daughter by letting her go. Actually well done and moving. And a good riff off recurring themes in the show…makes the candle on the cupcake parallel more palatable.
–Henry’s writing being powerful!
–Aw, Hades made Zelena her own Storybrooke!
–Zelena’s birthday! April 15th!!!!!!!!!!!!!! TIMELINE STUFF.
—BELLE CENTRIC COMING TEASER (but I won’t be able to watch live next week…)Not sure:
–Dorothy turns into Katniss?
–Belle loving both the man and the beast…I think there’s truth to that as she’s been portrayed, but I’m wondering how she can have a happy ending if Rumple’s not willing to bend at all.
–Zelena calling robin out on his leaving the baby for the pirate!
–Zelena nixing Marian as a name (oh please don’t do that to the kid).
–Hades on a bike! (would be a brilliant epithet!)
–Locator spells are getting entirely too easy. I like that they’re consistent, more or less, but it really does make things too easy sometimes.
–Zelena’s story paralleling Rumbelle…I’m not buying true love though. Love is sacrifice. Mutual. But if they use it to improve Rumbelle’s story instead of taking it over…then it could be good.
–Is Zelena going to save the day this time?Dislikes:
–Talking to the baby really makes a lot of sense, doesn’t it???
–Our baby came with me. (Never mind Belle. She’s nonexistent. Yanno, maybe Belle’s relatives would care that she’s in danger along with the baby?)
–Hades’ story is basically Zelena’s?
–Why didn’t Rumple stay with Belle? He just drops her and the baby off in the woods?Keeper of Belle's Gold magic, sand dollar, cloaks, purple FTL outfit, spell scroll, library key, copy of Romeo and Juliet, and cry-muffling pillow, Rumple's doll, overcoat, and strength, and The Timeline. I do not think there needs to be a PROPER OZ story in OUAT. It would be too much like having FROZEN, PAN, CAMELOT … getting further from the MAIN CHARACTER CENTERED stories. Those are the stories I like the best. As for the other stories it is fun reviewing them with my grandson and the kids… I like a light flavor of them in ONCE… but I do not like when the non-ONCE characters and stories take over the show.Give me the main characters, the STORY BOOK and author adventures … those are the one I want…. less Disney and more OUAT.

See, I actually thought there was some narrative merit to Rumple admitting he’s always craved power, even since before he became the Dark One. Or at least admitting to having this inherent character flaw, apart from the dark magic–but for me, it’s his obsessive need for security more than power. Power is just the means to the ends, but the through line for his character (at least in the first three seasons) was this need to know he’s loved and has a secure home to go to at night. That’s what I got from the earliest Rumple flashback we’ve seen–little boy Rumple just wanted to know his father had a job and that they could be together. That’s was all he needed. He’s essentially a control freak as an adult, which I see as a direct result of a childhood of instability. He needs to know he’s in control of everything at all times–not saying this won’t come back to bite him, and it’s not a great message/super skewed morality, but I do think there’s something kind of new and different about him admitting he’s always been a pretty weak man.

– First and foremost, Robin Hood has lines and is not just here to carry Regina’s purse! He stood his ground, and was his own character this episode! It’s a miracle people!!!
– Henry snapping on everyone for criticizing him!!! That’s the Mills coming out of him!!! Lol!
– Were Regina and Zelena really wearing matching hats this episode?
– Zelena’s moments with her daughter, and the realization that she really isn’t what/who her daughter needs right now.
– Zelena interrogating the munchkins was a nice parallel to whenever Regina was interrogating her peasants.
– Zelena actually sweeping her victims away with her broomstick.
– So Regina’s birthday is in February and Zelena’s birthday is in April! Spring time must have been a very fertile period for Cora!
– “My enemies became my family!” THIS! This is the highlight of Regina’s redemption!!! THIS!!!!!!!!!
– Robin and Regina trying to talk some sense into Zelena!
– Belle had lines and wasn’t forgotten this episode!
– The ultimate highlight of this episode is when Zelena gave Baby Greenbean her best chance by giving her to Robin & Regina! This compares to when Cora gave Zelena up to give Cora her best chance, and parallels when Regina gave Henry up to Charming to give him his best chance!
Mixed:
– HellWitch….true love…after only a bike ride and an hour of getting to know one another! I don’t think so.
– Rumple’s speech to Belle about her loving both the beast and the man…..I’m sorry, I just feel that he was trying to manipulate her real feelings into loving both sides of him when he knows good and well that Belle fell in love with the man behind the beast.
– I’m conflicted with Hades…..he told Zelena that she’d regret denying him, but as we see, he’s prepared Storybrooke for her and even tried bringing her daughter along. I’m sorry, I think this is a cover up for vengeance….he still loves her, but you don’t just scorn Hades and get away with it.
Dislike
– Did Hook really just try to rush Henry into writing that book? I mean did he really just do that or was I seeing things???!!!!
– Breath of the living on the black market….ummm….I really need an explanation!

Your questions are pointless (someone please gif that).
April 3, 2016 at 11:25 pm #320806nonnieParticipant– The ultimate highlight of this episode is when Zelena gave Baby Greenbean her best chance by giving her to Robin & Regina!
ZELINA made sure the baby was safe with her father …. baby Greenbean was going to get her best chance. ZELINA gave up the baby to give the baby a chance …. despite her own wishes and desires. This compares to when Cora gave Zelena up to give Cora her best chance, and parallels when Regina gave Henry up to Charming to give him his best chance!
CORA did what she did for her own sake.CORA abandoned baby ZELINA by leaving her by the side of the road in a forest where animals could have attacked her or she could have starved to death. As it was she was swept away by the wind and landed with a woman who cared for her thru her childhood…. she lucked out with a mother but not with the step father.
To me what CORA did was more like what the Charmings did by putting EMMA into the enchanted cabinet …. although the alternative was EMMa 1/ being killed by Evil Queen or 2/ raised by EVIL QUEEN … that could have been worse.
YOU are right when you said REGINA giving HENRY to the Charmings and later becoming family with Emma because of HENRY was a good thing. -
