I think I’ll have to re-watch this episode — and that’s something I haven’t done with OUAT in a long time. It seemed much more introspective (that’s good!) than usual.

So many feels. I can at least appreciate really good acting. I did the same and re-watched for the first time in a while. Now hopefully they don’t crush some of this momentum with a dull Belle story. Because that has happened in the past. Belle is rather interesting right now and I’m hoping the next episode keeps the train rolling.
Tangentially: Someone please explain to me the necessity of a live baby as a time travel spell ingredient. If the spell relies on symbols or signs (baby as a symbol/representation of innocence, brain as a symbol/representation of intelligence/wisdom), couldn’t any other representation or symbol do? How about a lamb for innocence? How about an owl for wisdom? How about some color symbolism? How about simply writing “innocence” on a piece of paper, and use that? This makes no sense to me.

Yeah perhaps this will be addressed. Perhaps children are actually the most attainable form of innocence. I imagine lambs are few and far between and children and babies are like everywhere. Plus, you know, helps with the PLOT.
What were the four symbols again? Perhaps it’s got to be people related.
Wisdom is something that is exclusive to people. A person can be called wise, an animal isn’t really wise but people attribute this trait to them eg a wise owl, three wise monkeys. Wisdom is basically the ability to see the full picture whilst fools rush in. Little fish see a bright light in the darkness and rush towards it, regardless of the fact it’s attached to an angler fish that wants to eat them. A wise person will see the light and go “I don’t know what that is so I’m not going to get too close in case it’s a trap and something wants to eat me”
Innocence- A baby is essentially the most innocent person you can find before life and circumstances begin to corrupt them.
Redeemed heart or whatever it was- Again people related. Animals have no concept of right and wrong just that they need to eat whereas people do.

I remember Belle mentioning that others had tried time travel before but it never worked. The one thing they all had in common were the ingredients of courage, heart, wisdom, and innocence. I think the only reason why Zelena’s spell worked and the others didbt was because Zelena found the perfect ingredients or the perfect representation of each symbol. So I don’t think just any symbol of innocence would have worked and I don’t even think any baby would work. Snowflake was born from true love so is extra special/ innocent.
