April 23, 2016 at 9:07 pm #321984nonnieParticipantLooking forward to the Regina & Zelina flashback > the fight between James and David…. looking like a really good episode.

.April 24, 2016 at 9:00 pm #322037RumplesGirlKeymasterThis episode was mostly pretty good, even if I predicted a ton of it going in. But there were many instance of super convenient explanations that dropped out of the sky just for this plot and this plot alone (River Lethe runs right by the Mills’ estate, huh? Zelena and Regina met but Cora did a thing, huh?) but it was really great to see Cora, Zelena and Regina finally be together in one place, connecting.
LIKED
–“Will you make chaos with me?” Srsly. This line is so stupid but I ridiculously love it.
–Love Hades’ car.
–Cool magical moment with Zelena and the wood pile
–LOL at the random mill in Underbrooke. Did Hades create it just for Cora?
–The first interaction between James and David was just so cheesy–“you had your fun at playing prince. Let’s see what happens when I play shepherd” I mean, yeah Josh. You just chew threw that scenery. Gosh knows they don’t give David anything.
–“Why is everything in the woods with you people?”
–Cruella punched Emma.
–LOL at the image of Robin wandering through the woods with a baby carrier and baby Pistachio!
–Baby Regina and Baby Zelena playing dress-up together are really cute even if their makeup is scary as heck.
–Loved the emotional scene between Cora and Zelena, especially Cora admitting that Zelena is her unfinished business and she did what she did for selfish reasons. I’m also glad that Zelena could tell she was being fooled, even if Cora was genuine.
–“You two are cut from the same dark cloth!” Zelena is on point with that.
–Past! Cora is so deliciously heartless. I was cringing in horror over her actions separating the two girls, but it fits SO PERFECTLY with who she was.
–“I thought love, any kind of love, was weakness. I was a fool.” Yaaaaas character development for a minor character!
–“It’s never too late, you never stop being connected.” #EpisodeTheme!
–Cora’s goodbye to her two girls was powerful. Well done, Barbara Hershey. It has been a great joy to watch a class act lady play this tricky and nuanced role.
–Hades is practicing dancing for Zelena!
MIXED
–Regina acting a lot like Cora by telling Zelena that she’s trying to do what is best for her. Yes, daughters become their mothers, but you would think that Regina would have learned how not to be like Cora after, say, season 2?
–Buuuut…Regina has a point. Zelena did lose her rights to trust and privacy after everything she’s ever done. You have to EARN those back. And thus far, Zelena’s batting zero in that regard.
–So Cora’s been spying on Young! Zelena this whole time and never thought to ….rescue her?
DISLIKED
–Young Regina did magic with a wand and needs someone related to heal her with same blood, but not Cora cause *reasons* Man, that’s some clunky plot exposition just to get this point to happen.
–Hook thinks killing Zelena is a step in the right direction. Yes, totally redeemed.
–“I have to do things my way now.” Or you could TRY not to do all the evilz, Rumple?
–Gosh, I’m so glad Emma has a superpower that lets her know when people are lying!
–Rly? The River Lethe runs right by the Mill’s estate in the EF? Rly?????! Golly, that’s super convenient!
–Cora took off the effects of the water…by just a hand hold? And how does the water target just THOSE memories? That’s convenient!
–Bye bye James. So not everyone can move on. Murderers, yes. Jealous princes, no.
–Did PP just throw a bag over Z’s head…

Best episode all season long! This was it, everything I hoped and more, this was it! Barbra Hershey, Rebecca Mader, and Lana Parrilla sold this episode for what it was worth, making their scenes the most powerful OUAT has ever done…I haven’t cried this much since 5×12 with Regina and Henry Sr!
Liked:
Everything…
Young Regina and Young Zelena playing dress up, all sisterly, and what not!
Proof that magic can be inherited through bloodline, hence Young Regina/Zelena magic.
The Regina and Zelena flashback and how it parallels present day.
James and David finally confronting one another and having it out once and for all!
Cruella! “Why is everything always in the woods with you people!” This is so true if you think about it!
Cora genuinely apologizing to both of her daughters!
Cora actually confessing that she loves her daughters, and hugging them both in the end!
Cora making it over to the happier side of the light, wherever it is, I rest knowing she’s finally at peace and happy!
Regina and Zelena gaining back their memories!
Regina and Zelena hugging one another, and Regina encouraging Zelena to go be with her man!
And did I mention that Cora was able to truly be redeemed in this episode, and allowed to cross over to the happy side of paradise…that last moment where she said goodbye to her daughters is on my top three list of greatest moments in OUAT History!
Dislike: (Nothing major, just small nitpicks)
Emma’s lie detector off again, she couldn’t tell that wasn’t her father?
Robin Hood trying to shoot a dead man…really Robin? Really? Season 3 Robin was smarter than this!
But Emma….come on! Season 1 you would have pieced that together in five minutes! How could you not tell?!!

This is the episode I have been waiting for since season 1….the ep where I get to see baby Regina and her mother’s relationship. I am afterall, a Regina fan.
And I was kind of disappointed.
-baby Regina looked nothing like adult Regina, nor acted like her (facial expressions etc).
-Cora was too nice to baby Regina. She was abusive when she separated Regina and Zelena, then gave them both the forgetting potion, but here it came from a place of misguidance. Even though misguidance can result in abusive parenting styles, Regina’s hatred towards Snow seems to have been caused by more than just misguided parenting….until now, when we find out that even in the past Cora did love her daughter. I just don’t know what to think about Regina’s turn to the dark side anymore. I guess Regina was quite isolated and therefore had no positive influences from anyone except a kind, weak father….the very epitomy of ”kindness/love is weakness.” Perhaps it is the combination of misguided parenting AND isolation that resulted in Regina’s broken psyche.
-I am not sure that it fits that Zelena can change so easily. It took Regina months, years to become the evil queen, and then months, years to change back to her former self. This shows that 1) it takes work to come back from evil and 2) Regina’s resistance to the darkness shows her strength in character. Compare all this with Zelena. Yes, Zelena was originally good, but she descended into darkness very, very quickly, as if her darkness was strong in her all along. It should follow that returning to her former self will be more difficult and a slower process than it was for Regina.
-I am in two minds about Cora going to ”the better place” so quickly. It’s a very nice ending for her, and it sticks to theme of ”hope” but I felt that she needed to suffer much more in some way first before moving on to the better place. I just felt that she didn’t work towards her Happy Ending.
-Regina and Zelena’s relationship was fixed too quickly. Happy memories and pretty words from their mother should not erase what they have done to each other as adults, especially after what Zelena has done to Regina as an adult.
-Robin shooting a dead man. Where is our intelligent Robin Hood gone?
-The message that one person can change another person. They can help each other but not change them (which is what they were really trying to say). Another person can be the carrot, the motivation for a person’s change (like Henry was for Regina), but that change needs to come from within (like it did for Regina). Change does not happen because another person directly causes them to change.
I did like Cora apologising to both daughters though, especially to Zelena. And it was very well acted by all three ladies.

April 25, 2016 at 5:03 am #322083sciencevsmagicParticipantGood episode, although I must say that Rebecca Mader’s definition of “mind blowing” is rather different to mine. Maybe I’ve read too many spoilers, but there were no real surprises in this one. Its strength was the heartfelt scenes between Zelena, Regina and Cora.
Liked:
– Rebecca Mader’s acting. She nailed it. BH and LP were also terrific.
– The family reunion scenes, the emotion, the bonding, the goodbye at the end. Very moving.
– Pan kidnapping Zelena. This is one of the only two ways in which I felt the plot moved along.
– Cruella punching Emma. I’m not entirely sure why this gave me so much pleasure. Maybe it’s because Cruella was acting out my subconscious desires since the end of 5A.
– Seeing more of Zelena’s childhood in Oz. Increased my sympathy for her.
Mixed:
– The flashbacks. There was nothing hugely unexpected here, and it didn’t really make sense. Cora suddenly requiring Zelena’s services was just a convenient plot device. It seemed like a complicated and roundabout way for the sisters to meet, just so that they’d have a memory to bond over in the future when the stakes are high.
– David and James interacting. I was looking forward to this one, but I felt they didn’t do it justice. It turned out to be a simple good twin vs evil twin story. I wish they’d given them a whole episode and allowed them to explore their relationship in a more meaningful way.
– Zelena confirming that she’s going to play Hades. I saw this one coming – I think everyone did. But at least the others know now, so it’s moved the plot along fractionally.
Disliked:
– The idea that the water of the River of Lethe is required to concoct a forgetting potion. I thought forgetting potions seemed reasonably common, so surely they don’t require such a rare ingredient?
– James being damned to eternal torment.
– The way the reappearance of Robin was handled. It seems ludicrous that he’s been running around the woods of the underworld with a baby. Then he tried to shoot a dead man. It’s beyond belief that the writers can’t make this legendary character more interesting.

I know! There is so much juicy material to jump of off with this character, and they have done nothing with him! Instead they have dumbed him down.
Perhaps if they gave him better material, material that involved the character displaying a greater range of emotions, he wouldn’t have to look so grimaced all the time lol

And where did they get the baby carrier…?

I hear Felix is down there and runs a store called ‘Baby and Camping Supplies for Deceased Nature Loving Parents’. Robin popped in there and paid for it all with money he stole from the living to give to the dead.
