November 29, 2015 at 9:12 pm #313171RumplesGirlKeymasterFirst, yes, I know the forums are looking strange. Daniel knows. Trying to fix.
Okay, onwards to 510. This one gets mostly an eye roll and a “whatever” from me. I didn’t actually hate it totally but it also feels as though most of what is happening/was said will be reversed before the season as a whole is over. So what’s the point in getting invested, speculating, or trying to analyze characters?
LIKED
–“Hi…” LOL at DO Clippy Rumple
–Rumple declaring his love to Belle at Regina’s. I actually felt something.
–The Rumple/Hook fight was really well done
–“Baby Hood…” LOL
–“Once you go green, you’ll never go Queen” WOW
–Belle’s pink coat
–I actually really appreciate Belle having the courage to say that she needs space and time to figure out what she should do next. (And yes, it probably wouldn’t have happened if EdR wasn’t pregnant but I’ll give the show this one)
–We were right about the Underworld coming back.
–Love sick puppy dog. Are the writers secretly reading the SF thread here at ONCE Podcast?
MIXED (warning: some anti-CS thoughts in first post)
–Okay, the big one. I actually really enjoyed Evil! Hook and everything he was saying to Emma. It was vile and cruel and totally in line with the sociopath he is. The problem is that a few episodes down the road, it won’t matter. It will be hand waved away as “he was under the control of the Darkness and meant none of the horrible things he said” and CS will be once again sold as a love story for the ages. Yeah, no. How do you go and forgive someone who said those things to you AND killed someone in front of you because he doesn’t trust you? So A+ for showing that Hook is “once a pirate, always a pirate” but major F- because I know it won’t damper A and E’s love affair with a truly problematic relationship
–A wild Lancelot is spotted! And then told to go see his mommy. ‘kay. Bye bye one more Person of Color! But at least he didn’t die.
–They admitted that Zelena did something vile to Robin. But they don’t actually name it. It’s rape, writers. You should know. You use it often enough. Just call it what it is. It was rape.
DISLIKED
–So much kissing! Did we need that much kissing?
–Hook killing Merlin. Again, the PoC served their purpose and then was promptly killed by a white main character to further the white character’s story. It’s OLD, OUAT. It’s so old. I cannot applaud the brave choice in casting a PoC Merlin and Gwen when they become slaves to white characters, are raped by white characters, and killed by white characters. It’s vile.
–Dark One Chronicles. Really? So where was that like 5 years ago?
–“There are always loopholes” And that right there is the number one problem with this show. They have no sense of world building. It’s willy nilly, fly by the seat of your pants storytelling.
–Milah would be “soiled but returned” if Rumple had just fought for her. I cannot with this line. I cannot with the morality of this show. I cannot.
–Blood of a man who had been to hell and back. That might be the dumbest Magical McGuffin yet.
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"November 29, 2015 at 9:27 pm #313175KebParticipantYay Belle existed!
Liked:
–Rumple’s speech to Belle about his intentions, giving her a fair choice
–Belle kinda mattering a tiny bit for once
–Rumple looking sexy as he ever has on the ship when Hook takes the limp away
–Rumple using his brains to best Hook
–Rumple having mercy on Hook. Sorta.
–Hook being the Hookiest he’s ever been. Colin was clearly having fun. I think Bobby was too.
–Henry helping Emma. Emma going to Henry for help.
–Arrow to the knee. Hehehehe.
–Shall we cut it open and count the rings?Disliked:
–Belle dumping Rumple after getting his hopes up by showing up. Just…no. (More on this later. Much more.)
–The suggestion that being DO corrupts Hook so quickly that he almost instantly hates Emma. His reasoning for being angry makes sense, but we KNOW DOs can love intensely AND truly even if they continuously hurt the people they love because of the darkness. If Hook’s SO TRUE LOVE for Emma…..he never would have said the things he said to her.
–So all you need for a curse now is a bubbling cauldron and a heart to crush? It took Regina 9 bloody months to put the original curse together, and presumably a little time to do it in S3 for Snow and David. And that’s after Rumple spent centuries getting the whole thing organized. It was just too easy and the railing in my head against it overwhelmed the emotional impact of “Nimue” killing Merlin etc. Consistency good, this bad.
–Dancing around the word rape with what Zelena did to Robin, though at least they addressed that it was vile.
–While I don’t want Baby Hood taken from Zelena, I also don’t like this concept of her being Zelena’s only hope of salvation. With Regina, while Henry might have been her motivation to try to become good…she had other reasons (and not all of them were Robin). She saw that goodness meant being invited into a world of warmth and love that she had always wanted to be a part of. And it was a slow, actually well orchestrated transformation for the most part. Zelena doesn’t get to turn good overnight just because she has a baby to love. It’s not fair to the baby and it’s not fair to her. If that’s how they play it, I will be disappointed.OKAY NOW TO MY RUMBELLE RANTY QUESTION THEORY THING:
Belle at the well did NOT seem quite like herself. Either the writers made a very OOC choice with her to up the tension and create artificial (at this point) drama, because we know Rumbelle can never be together until The End, or…
Someone was controlling Belle to hurt Rumple. Hook, having been defeated on the ship, just might have done that, even if his real goal was getting Rumple’s blood. Other than the fact that Belle didn’t sound quite like Belle (hesitant, yes, wanting to take things slowly, sure–dumping him like that? I’m not buying it), there’s also the intentional parallelism of the well: Last time they were there, Regina was controlling Belle’s heart. So…there’s a motive (Hook wanting deeper vengeance than he got with the fight), a parallel, and the fact that Belle just didn’t sound right to me. It’s not a lot to go on because her character hasn’t been around enough to build any kind of consistency anyway…and for the sake of plot, we know the writers will make characters OOC (315 *cough*).
Yeah, I didn’t like it mostly because I like Rumbelle and I want Belle happy with her hero. But I also did not find it WORKING within the storyline.

November 29, 2015 at 11:07 pm #313199RumplesGirlKeymasterWell, I don’t think Belle is being controlled because no one else knew that Belle and Rumple had set up this “Affair to Remember” type of meeting.
The factor that does have to be taken into consideration here is EdR’s very real pregnancy.
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"November 29, 2015 at 11:53 pm #313203WickedRegalParticipantOverall: 7.5/10
Liked:
Regina and Zelena…there is hope for WickedSisters yet, they have taken one step forward and admitting that the insanity has to stop. It may take a few episodes, but I’ve got faith.
Regina calling Zelena out on what she did to Robin Hood.
The agreement Regina and Robin had with Zelena, c’mon people, it was reasonable. And the fact they’ve still got hope that Zelena can change.
Zelena holding her baby and shedding a tear….motherhood can do wonders for even the wicked I suppose. That was probably one of the best moments in the season so far.
Belle finally standing her ground…as sad as it was…she told the truth. But I’m sure by Season 5B Finale they’ll be back together.
Human Rumple bested Hook…..this is the biggest shocker this whole season.
Evil Hook….he was definetly more interesting than I originally thought.
Dark Swan Emma is amazing…I mean, JMo really did her thing with this role.
It’s gonna sound strange coming from me, but the end scene where the curse was coming and Emma was cradling Hook with Dark One Rumple watching was touching because it’s like a callback to the Series Premiere where the curse was coming and Snow White was cradling Charming as Evil Queen Regina watched.
Mixed:
Ummm…okay, enough with the field of flowers Adam and Eddy. This isn’t Twilight!
So….basically Storybrooke Lake where all the children and families walk by and play in everyday is now a gateway to Hell? Okay. (sarcasm)
So…what’s Baby WickedOutlaw’s name? They need to tell us this.
Disliked:
Merlin dying…I cannot express enough the anger I have over this. Not only is this another brilliant POC biting the dust, but how could the most powerful sorcerer to ever live lose his magic like that? I just….WE SPENT ALMOST TWO SEASONS LOOKING FOR MERLIN AND HE WAS KILLED IN TEN EPISODES! I CAN’T!!! (Flips table)
So let me get this straight…all you need to have is the heart of the thing you love most? Okay….what happened to all those ingredients Regina used back in 1×02?? Lock of hair from those with the darkest souls and all those other stuff? I can’t with this.
Ummmm…I’m confused….How did Emma’s family fail her??????!!!! Not to mention that Emma told them in the season premiere that they had to pay for doing what they did to her? Was there an issue in the writing room, were they undecided on what occurred in Camelot, because if you watch the earlier part of the season, you’d think the family had burned Hook at the stake how Emma was acting all “Dark One and you must suffer”.

November 30, 2015 at 12:05 am #313204Jiminy’s JournalParticipantI think Belle was being controlled. In this episode she was all, “Later, bro!”, but at the end of 4A, her dumping Rumpel was played very differently.

Yes! I like this quick, blink-and-you-miss-it humour.
The slapstick comedy of unintentionally issuing commands to the Dark One is funny, too. Too bad they’ve closed that now; I was hoping for someone to swear while holding one of the Dark One remotes.
Human Rumple bested Hook…..this is the biggest shocker this whole season.
But then it turned out to be the kind of misdirection worthy of a smart villain, so I give it thumbs up.

November 30, 2015 at 4:01 am #313225PheeParticipantOperation Cobra Part 2. Really? RLY?! Operation Mongoose sounded stupid, but now they’re just not even trying.
November 30, 2015 at 7:18 am #313228onceaholicParticipantHmmm not sure what to make of this one.
Merlin brewed some potion then used it to record a message. Hook dumped Merlin’s heart ashes in the same potion to cast the dark curse. I thought the dark curse had more ingredients than that? And why would it be almost the same ingredients for a recording device and the dark curse?
I don’t understand why Belle feels the need to protect herself from Rumple at this point. She could say that she has had her heart broken so many times that she now feels nothing, but that is not what she said. Is this the writer’s odd way to build up for pregnant! Belle?
I think Belle was being controlled. In this episode she was all, “Later, bro!”, but at the end of 4A, her dumping Rumpel was played very differently.
Perhaps Hook is controlling her as a part of his revenge.
As for the portal to Hell…there happens to be one in Storybrooke (perhaps all water is a gateway to hell???) and what an easy way to open it!!!! Amazeballs!!!
