[adrotate group="5"]March 6, 2016 at 9:27 pm #318113WickedRegalParticipantFor the first time in a long time….I’m giving a 10/10 Rating.
This was hands down the best Season 5 Episode for me….from beginning to end, and now a spark of hope has been lit that OUAT may just redeem themselves. To put it simply, I liked everything!
Highlights:
That Neal Scene!!!! AH! It was like both salt and medicine on the wound…I didn’t know whether to flip a table or hug my tv!
Cora and Henry Sr.’s early and later bickering.
Regina celebrating her birthday.
Henry Sr. trying to talk some sense into Regina.
The explanation of how Cora got Henry Sr. in the first place.
Regina’s reunion with both Cora and Henry Sr.
Rumple’s reunion with Peter Pan.
Snow White meeting the Blind Witch who is oddly interesting.
The Cruella De Vil Easter Egg.
Henry Sr. telling Regina that he forgives her and that he would love her no matter what!
Cora hugging Regina, and her attempt at giving sane motherly advice.
Henry meeting Henry Sr., and his talk with Regina just before he crosses over! (This scene destroyed me!)
The clock moving again. (Season 1 feels)
And surprisingly, Hades being Hades…..this man is channeling him a lot better than I thought he would be able to do, so far he’s really great.
Again best episode of Season 5 so far to me!
Questions:
Ok…these aren’t necessarily strong enough to be considered dislikes…but I just have to wonder.
1. If it only took Cora five seconds to snatch out Snow’s heart….why in the world did it take Regina years, and she still wasn’t able to do it? This is the biggest question! You had the magic mirror, you knew where she was at all times, why not just pop up, take the heart, and dip? Did Regina just secretly love the cat and mouse game she played with Snow or something?

March 6, 2016 at 9:27 pm #318114KebParticipantReally enjoyed this ep. I give it an 8/10. Minus a point each for not including Belle in the adventure and for it not being to save Neal instead of Hook as even Emma said it should have been.
Favorites:
–Rumple as Underworld Tour Guide
–Neal’s entire scene (though one glaring flaw for me, see least faves)
–Henry Sr.’s trip to Wonderland, should be fun to timeline and fills in a blank I’ve wondered about since S1
–Henry meeting Henry Sr. I’d put it in the top most beautiful scenes in the series.
–The Chipped Cup and the doll in the shop
–Blind Witch running Granny’s. She was fun. I’d like to see more of her.
–Pan being very Pan.
–Hades. Ally McBeal flashbacks but dang he’s perfect for the part.
–The very very very very very brief Rumbelle moment. At least there was a kiss. And at least Rumple TOLD Belle where he was going.
–Underworld Storybrooke. I wanted to see more of it.
–The clock ticks. To 8:15. Feels.Least Favorite:
–Neal not getting a chance to talk to Henry. And also insisting that his business is finished when that’s so not what was shown.
–Belle not even asking to come along this time, let alone be invited. There must have been more to that conversation; I’d have liked to have seen it.
–Belle’s screentime inching towards an average of 0.1 second per ep.
–Hades’ hair. It could be a cool effect and it’s obvious why they wanted to do it, but…yeah, it’s not quite working as is.Keeper of Belle's Gold magic, sand dollar, cloaks, purple FTL outfit, spell scroll, library key, copy of Romeo and Juliet, and cry-muffling pillow, Rumple's doll, overcoat, and strength, and The Timeline. March 6, 2016 at 9:31 pm #318116RumplesGirlKeymasterI stand by my reaction to the episode when I watched about 2 weeks ago. It’s a solid hour. It’s not life altering TV anymore, but it’s not offensive as some episodes have been in the past. There are honestly very good gems in this episode. There are some duds as well, but on the whole, it’s a perfectly fine episode.
LIKED
–The Regina/Henry Sr conversation, especially the final one. It goes to show that A and E are good writers. They know how to bring a story, five years in the making, home. Regina and Henry Sr have a lot of history between then and it’s often overshadowed by Cora (because Barbara Hershey is a boss!) and her relationship with Regina, but long before there was Cora, there was Henry Sr and the Evil Queen. Henry Sr is often thought of as a villain of neglect–he neglected and failed to protect Regina. The fact that this is openly acknowledged as really lovely; the fact that Regina forgave him (and he forgave her in return for, you know, murder) was really heartfelt. Well done all around.
–Hades is fairly charismatic. His CGI head is appalling but at least the acting is good.
–“I love you Emma. I always have and I always will.”
–Henry just want to see his dad.
–Cora is riveting as always.
–Gingerbread or children?
–Regina’s birthday ballgown
MIXED
–Neal’s appearance. Yes, he should be there. The fact that he has no unfinished business is absolute malarkey and reeks of writers trying to come up with not-so-clever excuses. But those final few seconds in the car…gorgeous. It just goes to show that Neal and Emma truly truly TRULY loved one another.
–However, Emma can go ahead and jump off a cliff for the whole “I would save you if I could!”
–Glad Emilie got in her required 5 seconds, but I loathe how naviee they make Belle.
DISLIKED
–Operation Firebird. No plz. Explain why you’ve chosen Firebird. Is it cause Phoenix is already so pregnant with meaning for one couple on this show.
–Hades. Honey. We gotta talk about that head of yours. God bad CGI is bad CGI
–Peter Pan’s plan seems weak. Robbie Kay is still phenomenal but that appearance left something to be desired.
–Jiminy is in Snow’s shirt because….????
–The really unnecessary James/Snow makeout.
–Henry doesn’t get to talk to his dad. At all.
–Rumple doesn’t even mention his son!

The interaction between him and Rumple felt largely like a rehash of the confrontations they had in previous episodes, and I felt like Robbie Kay is being held back from actually doing anything different with the character by Eddy and Adam’s weird commitment to making him the only villain who has to stay perpetually evil. And Rumple not even trying to find Neal also feels strange.

March 6, 2016 at 11:57 pm #318178KebParticipantRandom like: I just looked on the timeline to work out about where this flashback has to be. We know Regina’s birthday is Feb 1st (Lana tweeted that some time ago), and the only place that date works where Snow is with the dwarves but hasn’t taken back the kingdom is…1982. Incidentally, that comes about 3 months before where I had set Hat Trick’s flashback (with a note saying within the bounds of Grace’s age it could really be ANYWHERE at that time). Of course we have more clues since I wrote that note.
But I’m happy because it shows once again my timeline is fairly close to whatever they’re using as reference. Yay!

March 6, 2016 at 11:57 pm #318179darkones1fanParticipantI know…This was pretty good…I mean really….it did things that i did not expect…It actually, seemed clever. And tied up a loose end…or well tied in something in flashback. I’m worried now though! At least i will have this one em is the season.
March 7, 2016 at 12:05 am #318181Bar FarerParticipantLiked:
– Emma and Neal’s scene. It was bittersweet. I like bittersweet.– Emma and Henry’s scene.
– Regina and her parents.
– There weren’t any retcons.
Disliked:
– the red filter. It hurts my eyes, and it doesn’t look threatening, it just looks like a dust storm. If it’s going to be like that the whole half season, it will be worse than Neverland.
– flashbacks at this point are pointless fillers. Did anyone really feel any suspense when Regina crashed that heart? We know it’s not going to work.
– Don’t get why they suddenly need to make the Evil Queen a brat. She was threatening in the first season, now she seems like a grown baby.
– Henry sr. Was not a saint, he helped Regina kill Snow’s father and that mirror guard.
– lots and lots of OOC moments:
Regina- everyone tells her this is a dangerous place, she sees what happened to the random dude no one cares about, she sees what happened to Hook, get your kid to safety. Your kid is more important than that pirate!Rumple – he was just weird, why didn’t he went to look for Neal. Sure we know that he’s not there, but he doesn’t know that. If the audience knows what’s happening, it doesn’t mean that the characters should. This was a problem in previous season when Arthur knew a lot of info about the dagger that the audience knew when he shouldn’t have. I see this is going to be the same situation in this season.
Emma just blackmails Rumple in front of everyone and no body tells her that’s wrong? Our noble hypocrites heroes. Honestly how can we not root for Rumple? He just had enough of those people’s crap.

If they wanted to go the deep physchological rout with the Queen vs Snow rivalry then yes, its common Villainy 101 to love the hunt more than the victory. But since i don’t trust the writers than my guess would be no.
March 7, 2016 at 2:11 am #318197onceaholicParticipant8/10 (The first passing score I have given in a long time!).
Loved LOVED LOVED this episode!
It had a ton of Regina in it (Evil and Reformed) so I enjoyed it immensely! It’s been a while since we have had so much of her on our screens.
Anyway…
LOVED
-Regina, and the Evil Queen
-The hints at Regina being key to saving everyone in the underworld. I really hope that she gets to make up for what she has done by helping the people she killed, and takes a huge leap forward towards her redemption. It would take Graham to make the storyline complete, though, and I have a feeling that he won’t even get a mention.
-Henry Jr meeting Henry Sr.
-Cora as the miller’s daughter again.
-Bandit Snow
-That we got an explanation as to how Cora stole Henry.
-The casting for Hades. You need a strong actor to be able to go head to head with BH and be the more menacing one, and he was.
-That Regina got closure over her father, and the moments between them.
-Robbie Kay’s acting was better than it was 2 years ago, but I was still glad that he showed up for only a short time. It’s a shame because there is so much they could do with this character in the Underworld, and the actor doesn’t have the ability to pull it off.
-More mumbling from Emma and Neil. I really don’t like inarticulate characters or actors.
MIXED
-Ooh Jiminy you dirty pervert! Wait, why did no-one swat him like the bug he is for that?
-No Zelena, but we will get plenty more of her later.
-The red filter. I realise it is supposed to be the underworld but I found it irksome. Blue would have been better. Still, it is less annoying than the Neverland set.
-Hades’ blue flamed hair. Too Disney-esque.
DISLIKED
-EQ killing more people, such as the joker, for sport. In 4B she said that she only killed people as collateral damage in her pursuit of SW, but this is another example of someone who was not related to her search yet was killed.
-EQ is increasingly being written as a comical spoiled brat. Still menacing, but not as much as she was in season 1. Lana did the best with what was thrown at her, but there is no saving bad writing.
-No goodbye scene between Henry and Neil.
QUESTIONS
I wonder which fairy Rumple might need to summon. The black one or the blue one? I am hoping the Black Fairy.
Keeper of Regina's bravery
