…I’m now longing for a flashback to Rumple’s previous time there. And maybe the moment when he was summoned back to the land of the living.

It sounds, to me, like the writers are, once again, guilty of lack of world building. They need to save money so they can’t really build an entire set, with heavy CGI, for the Underworld so they use their already built SB set and a red filter. And then they knew they needed a reason for it to look like SB

Yeah I’m sure this is true.  However, they had to have known that they wouldn’t be able to an entire CGI UW right?  So what I’m saying is, they must have planned on having Hades be the reason it looks like Storybrooke.  They aren’t just doing that because fans complained and wanted a legitimate reason as to why they are almost identical.  And to boot, I think there reason, if it is tied to the Dark Curse, is quite clever.

I’m hoping we get this in “devil’s due.”  It’s rumple centric, Espenson wrote it, there’s obviously some tie with Hades because of the title.  My guess is we’ll get Rumple playing stupid for one more episode, and then in the third one back, we’ll see what happened to him in the UW and what he may or may not know from that experience.

Rumple’s line was an example of shoddy writing, yes. On the other hand, it doesn’t bother me too much that the UW is Storybrooke with a red filter. I think it’s actually preferable to yet another cheaply cobbled together CGI realm.

An easy solution would have been to have Rumple say something to the effect of the UW appears to different people as different things, and it’s appearing to them as SB because [insert reason blah blah].

Anyway, I agree with your larger point. A lot of the world building of UW is, so far, pretty muddled.

I actually prefer this take on the Underworld as opposed to a mostly CGI environment like Wonderland or just one bland studio soundstage like we got in Neverland. Especially if it was all dark underground caverns.

Largely because the CGI realms on this show are baaaaaaad. Green screen of doom in WL, remember? The yellow brick road. Oof.

I didn’t like this episode. I’ve got nothing more to add than that really.

I liked Regina/Henry Sr. scenes. And the Neal scene. But that’s it. And Hades. But its not really that good for me personally.

    2 inconsistencies:

    1. In 208, Cora said she never had a princess’ heart.

    2. In 209, Cora sais she would finally be able to give her daughter what she wants – Snow’s heart. Now technically she didn’t really gave Regina Snow’s heart, but it is said in a way that she never even had a chance to do so.
