This is something I just decided to do out of interest. I am a big snowing fan and personally don’t see the appeal of thw other couples out there but hey. So I wanted to see which couple was the favourite of the site in general. Legitimate couples to me are only the ones we have seen, which are three as far as I can think- hope I’ve not missed anyone out. And I’d also love people’s comments on why they love their fave couple.
For me it’s the unbelievable closeness, the fact he could feel pain when she bit into the apple. The fact, I’m sure, they would always know if something was wrong with the other. Also it’s the do or die attitude they have for each other. And they manage to have all te soppy stuff I love as well as acting like a legitimate couple, they argue, they tease, they have awkward moments involving daughter and grandson. They are always together but not always kissing each others faces of so they have this extreme love without it being all love-sick-teenager style. Plus the fact that they are both stubborn to an extent and are both fighters as well as seeing the good in most things.

I like Snowing, but while I watched from the start of the series it was Rumbelle that got me hooked completely. This is probably because I’ve identified with Belle of the Disney version since I was a teenager (I was 11 when the movie came out, so I can’t say since I was a little kid like some girls). The complexity of their relationship is powerful for me, though I definitely see some parallels between Snowing and Rumbelle (which is why Rumple’s always asking Charming for advice, heehee–those are some of my fave moments).

But like Rumple, I ship all three 🙂

Well, let me say this first off before some shipping war happens and this gets ugly: you cannot apply the term “legitimate” to SF yet. They were a couple in the past, but they are not together right now and it has not be proven that SF are TL. CS is still in the running and I ask that you bear that in mind.

I personally ship all three of those with Rumbelle being my OTP.

I love all the canon couples and ship all three too, but RumBelle is definitely my favorite- partially by default! Like you, Keb, I have adored the Disney version of Belle for years. I used to walk while reading just to be like her. I have Belle dolls and a lovely Belle costume that my mom made for me years ago 🙂 (We must be pretty close in age, Keb- I was 10 when the film came out.) I love the story of Beauty and the Beast in general, and the way Belle is able to bring out the goodness in Rumple is beautiful. Emilie de Ravin and Robert Carlyle are just amazing together.

(I would argue that Swanfire counts as legitimate because they *have* been in a relationship in the past regardless of their current status. They are still a real couple that we have seen together on the show. Legitimate doesn’t necessarily mean endgame. )

Of course if that’s our def of legit then we probably need to include Gregmara (ew). Or Hook & Milah. Or…

Agreed. If “legit” here means, they were together in the past, then you need to include:

    GOAT
    Neal and Tamara
    Dreamy and Nova
    Hook and Milah
    Rumple and Milah
    Rumple and Cora
    Regina and Daniel
    Leopold and Eva
    Ruby and Peter
    Jack and James
    Aurora and Philip
    Cinderella and Thomas
    Abigail and Frederick

This is my point. The term legitimate has a lot of problems and I hate shipping wars. With a passion. We have a strict no shipping war policy here. Debate is one thing, full on “my couple is better than yours” is a no no. So I’m asking that we be careful.

Oh, I hate shipping wars too- don’t get me wrong. That’s one of the reasons I like these forums best- no wars. So yes, those other couples you listed count. I think this poll was just about the most prominent ones though. In my mind, legitimate=canon, i.e. we have seen the characters kiss.

While canon = legitimate as in “established as true and won’t change” we can’t include SF on that list because they haven’t been proven as canon like Snowing or Rumbelle have. I’m not trying to nitpick, I just don’t want our very loyal, very kind, very wonderful CS’ers to be offended because this poll seems to say that SF is a for sure thing.

Yeah, and we saw Regina kiss Graham, but I don’t think you can count them as a legit couple or even canon. They were together…but it wasn’t romantic (or even by choice on Graham’s part). So what do you do with that + your definition?

The way we have defined canon on our site is

Canon: a highly contentious term. In general you can interchange it with “established as law or as truth.” It means that OUAT has said “this is true to our show, it will not be changed on the show.” Snowing is canon: Snow and Charming are True Love and that’s not going to suddenly change. Often times it is thrown around before it is shown on the show (shipping wars, for example). Until A and E and show actually show it to us, it’s not canon.

Regina and Graham are the perfect example, they kissed (and more) but are not legit or canon. So, I think it might be best to ignore the poll at the start and just discuss, “Who are your favorite couples and why”
